Does anyone else think the new STI looks like pure ass. Everytime I see it it turns my stomach. I thought they did really well with the 04 change so why did they get rid of it so fast. Oh well does this mean the 04's are gonna be somewhat cheaper now lol, I could just hope right.

I'm getting used to the look, still prefer the 03-05 look though.
Its the improvements underneath the body that are good though, like the 2.5L engine and all without a big price increase.
I agree with you about this making MY04/05's cheaper, and its what I am hoping for too as I look to buy one. :D

Well, it's ugly, but at least it gives you more grunt on the WRX model this year. (and that we canadians don't get the prettier EVO, so there isn't really much of a choice)

I LOVE IT!!!!
im especially happy about the wider wheels for more responsive handling, and the aero refinements (the grill allows more air velocity entering the scoop with less drag penalty) the udnerside is very functional; but looks cheap, the goofy rear window diflector increases air flow to the rear wing, the front brakes are air ducted... less drag, more D/F... who can complain???
i look forward to a close competition in next years WRC between Sebastian Loeb, Petter Solberg, and Marcus Granholm... definately an amazing group of drivers who might not be as good w/out a co-driver :)
that said, once im doing better monitarily... i have a feeling the 06 STi will be my daily driver for anything but nice conditions

It should handle well and it doesn't look as bad as some previous version, so it could be worse. I personnally like it quite muche :)

It isn't the most beautiful car in the world, but I love it. Just like all other rallycars for everyday use.
Looks alright to me. Yeah... could be better but can't have it your way always. It looks much better from the side view with the new headlights. just a shame Subaru's corporate design direction is changing for the worse.

Headlights looks good, the rear end looks good, the improvements under the skin sounds good, it is just that stupid shield grill. Same w/ the Tribeca, it looks ugly. They could've done a better job to honor Fuji Heavy Industries.
The middle section in the grill is just stupid it ruins the whole look of the car every thing else is preety decent on it though

It looks hideous. Not even remotely aggressive either, with those gay headlights...
i think it looks ok,i also do prefer the 03-05 shape impreza but this one isnt bad,im sure i read somewere that this model is actually quite fast.bit more power than the previous STI isnt it?

yep, its now a 2.5L instead of 2.0L and makes 206kW and 392Nm (14% more than previous model).

^In addition, the WRX model (in NA market at least) has switch from 2.0 to 2.5. I will assume there will be more low end grunt for around town driving.

yes, that is the case here too....the base model WRX now has 169kW.
And what about the WRC then? I mean... they have been using the 2.0 litre engine because they had to homologate a road car to enter the WRC.
With the 2.5 litre turbo... will it be a limited run with 2.0 litre engines? or am I wrong from the beggining and from 2007, the WRC will switch to S2000? :D
Bloody good question..... :?

^Yeah, I thought you have to produce certain amount of engines and chassis before you can use it for WRC.

here in the US, the STi since initial release has been 2.5 liters, and running 'low' boost levels of 14psi, compared with the overseas versions running 17-19psi.
our power outputs have been @300 hp/300 lb.-ft. since 2004.
also, i dont remember when Subaru has had 2.0 liter engines in the N/A lineup... i've only seen them in 2.5 format here... but probobly because US markets demand more low end drivability, particularly for a car pushing all four wheels :P

** edit **
well, considering there was no 2000cc turbo Peugeot 206, or Xsara, or Peugeot 307... I guess there's no need to have a 2.0 turbo engine in the road car line up  I just though it was the same as the FIA GT
The rules are quite complicated, but as I remember it, you have too keep some specs of the production engine, but you can imporve some others. The Xsara and 307 engine are both based on a 1.8l non-turbo engine: so you have the right to increase the size of the engine and add a turbo. You then have a restriction on the size of the air intake on the turbo (32mm if I am right).
You can change many things on the engine, but I doubt you can reduse the size from 2.5 to 2.0, so we might still have the 2.0l turbo engine in Europe :D :D :D

Has the Impreza ever looked good? I don't think so. It started ok, got a lot worse, but that last model was a good step in the right direction. Apart from the grill I think this is nice for an Impreza.
That grill isn't an instant stunner, but I think it has some historic meaning to Subaru. The retro trend has been like that for some time now. A lot of cars have design details from old models. I must admit that I like that thougt. If a manufacturer sticks to this you can recognize their cars from any era. Maybe I'm biased. I'm a Saab guy, and they've always done this. The T-bird looks like the one from the 50's, and Chevy has that pickup that I never remeber the name of. Some time ago BMW Z8 and MB SL got side vents from their relatives from the 60's, Audi has reintroduced the grill from the 30's race cars, and here comes Subaru.

saadie u made the car look a bit proper :D "a bit!" i do agree its a poo the subaru never looked good and never will!! they chaged the entire looking of the car but didn't improve the car much! the 2.5 engine was there is the last subaru all what they did is to increase the PSI, the 2.5 liters edtion isn't a WRC legal car, WRC cars gotta have T\C 2.0 liters engine.. thats why they don't use it in the WRC and they are showing off that it can produce 300hp !! what a shame!! and the funny thing is the STi is still an easy kill for the Mitsu Evo! either u raced it in a straight line or on track "i think its obvious how the Evo killed the WR1 edition with more then 2 seconds!!"
i dunno why Subaru ain't improving there car much, they gotta improve its handling plus the looks!

changing a car doesnt always have to do with increasing power. the 2.5 variable valveturbo motor runs only 14.5 psi, which is about identical to the 2.0 WRX motor. more low end torque is available then the Evo, and im waiting to see the trackside improvements for the car, but for high speed corners, this thing should rip it up.
its clear that a lot of time was spent in the wind tunnel with this car

subaru wanted to copy the votech generator on the Evo.. they squeezed there minds to do somthing similar but does't look alike so ppl don't curse them.. they ended up with somthing sooo stupid!! they wanted to copy the carnards u can install on the Evo, they ended up with these 2 silly looking thingys.. they changed many things but they didn't change the worse! the rear lights!!!!!!!!!!!

well, thats actually not the case
a lot of the aero cues were re-inforced because of direct need for further advantages in WRC; in order to follow the nessisary regulations. looking at the evo' WRC attempt, it shares significantly less bleed-through tech with the road car. also, under group N regulations tech transfer must be made available for every road car. suabru is quite concerned with winning
form follows function. its undeniable that the carbon fiber venturis on the rear of the evo serves the same function, it is functional. i see nothing wrong with subaru aiding in thier areodynamics in a similar way. styling comes down to personal preference
I just wish Subaru and Mitsubishi in the USA would not be so quick to deny warranty claims and cancel warranties.
I would have replaced the 4 door family car with an EVO or STi a long time ago, but the warranty denials put me off.

Mitsu is natorious for that, but up here, Subaru dealers have been known to look the other way with warranty claims; particularly in the past when a wrx/or STi came with a 1 yr. membership in the SCCA.
sometimes even installing components themselves for you.
but, ive also known some IDIOTS, who deserved what they got when thier warrenties were denied
e.g. : one guy locally with an STi who for some reason, always pops the throttle for full boost so everyone can hear the BOV, then immediately shuts the car off... so with this, the internals on the turbo remain hot w/out coolant circulating in it... so his bearings wore rather quickly... after the repair, he still does this  now for some reason, he has a 4" downpipe, going to 3 inches, going to 2.5"... i cant figure out if there is much of a benefit
personally, i would probobly go with warented work from Prodrive

well when it comes to WRC races am not a big fan.. so i can't BS and yeah i know Subaru have the titel.. the vortech generator doesn't serve same as the subarus happy meal plate in the rear, its much better and much more advanced.. it lowers the car 3 kph in top speed but the Evos stability becomes more by 10% and 13 in hard curves.. what about the subaru?
