Opera is wonderful, been using it since 6.50 and it's getting better all the time. For instance, the emaiil client actually works like a dream - better than outlook express anyways.

It's free because Google paid a lot to secure the google search box in the upper left han window. As you know, both M$ and Yahoo are hinting they'll be challenging Googles search dominance. Also, since Google bought Skype, they now find themselves with a complete package on their hands - so I expect opera, skype and gmail to integrate soon...

Well, I'm loyal to Firefox(and to Mozila)too, and I also tried Opera, really good indeed. But I stay with Firefox anyway.

Opera claim to be the fastest browser around. I'm not sure what they base their claims off.

I like Opera particularly for the way that it saves passwords. It also allows you to password protect log-ins and passwords. So the first time anyone tries to use one of my passwords they have to enter a password. After that it doesn't ask again.

Opera does everything in tabs. So you don't end up with a whole pile of windows as I always do in firefox. If Opera freezes and you need to force quit the program then the next time you open it you have the option to pick up with all the tabs that you previously had.

The only problem with opera is that there are a few web pages that don't work. This generally happens if they are running off javascript and there are errors in it. However as they bring out new versions opera manages to show more and more of these pages. I definately recommend that you have a good look at it. Use it for a month or two and you won't go back to anything else.

Firefox has higher compability with webpages than Opera. I've run into a few webpages where some icons disapeared in Opera, but didn't in Firefox. (e.g. Check www.ecost.com for the countdown button). Firefox as it comes is very basic and not the most user friendly, almost like IE. But with proper extensions and configurations, it will surpass the functions of opera. Opera is very user friendly coming out of the box and it has buildin email client, but the expandability is not comparable to firefox.

opera is becoming more compatible with most sites now. i can't remember when it was the last time i had to use IE when compatability was an issue. but the only reason i started using opera was when i was on dial up i could disable laoding images especially on JW where everyone had 1MB avatars and 10MB signatures! :P since then i've stuck with it.

You can disable loading images on firefox as well...

Under Tools --> Options --> Web Features --> Load Images

Yes I know that FF can run with tabs. I have only used it very briefly, I found that I kept on getting new windows instead of new tabs, theres probably a setting to open things in tabs somewhere but I couldn't be bothered looking for it.

The Opera download is 3.7Mb. I don't know what the FF one is.
