So, me and my friends are now planning a trip to america next summer. The plan is to either drive from LA (route66) to Chicago and then to New York, or same route in reverse. Maybe we go through the south as well. The route is'nt fixed yet, but LA and NY will be where we arrive or leave from(airline tickets from norway are chep when you are flying to new york)
Anyway, I need some help to locate dealers in the LA and NY area who sell and buy classic cars
We want something in good condition and something that can take a 5000km trip without serious breakdowns. (Note serious breakdowns.)
We have looked at www.traderonline.com and found some nice vehicles. We are especially looking for old Convertibles 1968-78 Prices up to $6-7-8k
I'am sure there are more internet pages with classic cars, but it would be great if some of you already knew some places, either in LA or NY.
Please also suggest if you have any tip's on a BIG convertible with a BIG engine. Currently we are looking at a nice '76 Eldorado Convertible with a 500cui engine for about $7k

Only problem is that it is in Troy,MI Maybe we can get it shipped to NY?

if you're gonna buy AMERICAN muscle-------COME TO DETROIT, my friend!
this is the capital of american cars. I swear....every single night, i see Hemis, Caddys, Chevys, Mustangs, etc.....fly past me and being flown past by me. they are everywhere.
tons of selection too. Detroit is about 4.5 hours from Chicago...but if you're thinking of buying a classic piece of american engineering......this is the place and its worth your time!
cheers

How much do you recon it would cost to ship one over to LAX? cheapes alternative...

so far the route, roughly is (maybe in reverse):
Los Angles -> San Francisco -> Las Vegas -> Chicago -> Houston -> New Orleans -> Miami -> Washington DC -> Philadelphia -> New York
only as guidance points, to go in the right direction. please write some comments regarding places, cities or landmarks etc.

you should go stay at the Wynn hotel in vegas and see their Ferrari Maserati showroom.

that would be great!. It will probably be late june next year. We still haven't decided on a car yet, but I'm going to post here until we leave, so just check back now and then. I'll pm you if we find something near LAX :D :D :D
what do you think "normal" picup time from sale is?.. I doubt the seller will hold the car more than two weeks from sale. So We'll have to buy a car within two weeks from our arrival date, and then pick it up (or get it delivered by noliebro) What do you think?
Also: we're interessted in "most bang for the buck" so 427cui minimum!! hahaha :D

how much time are you guys giving yourselves for the trip?
about three weeks, after we get the car, we're pretty much going to "wing it" We don' want to much planned, only major cities to drive in the direction of. :D

goodduck, thanks for the map, now I can explain to the others really how far this is...Those were only the guidelines, all of our inputs in one route... I think the final route will be closer to 4000miles
$26k??.. it's damn nice (not the color) but thats a little too much, The other one though is briliant.. Do you know the engine displacement? BUT, theres only 3 days left in the auction..and it needs a lot of work.
