To any PS2 owner...

[Chaos in 1983!]

I need some help with my PS2...I've had problems with two DVD movies, Disney's Holes and The Pianist, when the DVD starts to play, the image slowly fades to black and then a blue screen appears, after about 5-10 seconds the image comes back normal again and the process repeats itself...no other DVD movie, PS1,PS2 game have ever done this before...anyone knows wtf is wrong with it?

in teh early PS2 there were some bad dvd faults because recently the method the DVD's use to change layers has changed and teh PS@'s dont seem to like it.

A movie on dvd only changes layers once and since it is doing this alot every 30 or so it sounds like a different problem.
I dont know what to say but, almost all dvd players have a few dvd's that they just dont work correctly with for various strange reasons.

I bought it brand new from Best Buy like 3 months ago, US version...and no it's not chipped...this has only happened with these two movies...

I just tried playing The Pianist in my PS2 and it worked. The movie and PS2 are both US versions.

yes did think of that, but the reason many player such as the Xbox and PS2 dont play some DVD's is to do with the game protection systems. If the machine dosnt recognise the disk a disk or dosnt play it sould do with the fact that it ws recorded on a different type or even brand or dick. I know on the xbox with games if you try and burn them it just dosnt simply work the image needs to be patched. This is because the data on the disks tells teh machine that it should only be read of a ceratin type of DVD and if it isnt correct it wont play. So by change a line of code it corrects this. i am not a big PS2 person but that could have something to do with it.

I would sugest seaching a PS2 forum because there are lots of people out there that will have teh answer to your question

the problem is that the US version has the chip integraded. what it means the DVD movies and the DVD game are in one. unlike the JP version which you could make a multi region. the JP version uses the memory card in order to play DVD movies without the memory card with the region code or codes it won't play, that why i went to japan when it came out hehe. many online article don't recommend using the US PS2 for DVD movies. your lents is going to wear so fast you have to replace it every 6 months or less. a friend of mine chipped PS2 and replaces lents on PS2 and he doesn't recommend playing movies on the playstation he said better to buy a cheap DVD player like the APEX or some for less than $100.

If u got one of the first shipments of the ps2's the dvd players had faults in them and they fuck up now and then, i had to get a new one. Get a new PS2 cause now the dvd player has been switch with a new one and stronger one plus the romote control is integrated so u dont have to plug anyting intoo the controller port. but the firewire has been cut out, so no more firewire to link PS2 together. the good news u will be able to link them throught a router like a PC.

If you have you PS2 hooked up to your TV through a VCR it'll do that. The VCR has that macrovision stuff an it'll mess with the picture. If it is going through a VCR, try hooking it up straigh to the TV.
If it's not going through a VCR, then i haven't got a clue as to whats wrong with it.

YES!!! it IS hooked to a VCR!...it's on my old TV so it doesn't have video and audio in so I use the VCR...I'm gonna try on one of the other TVs...I hope this solves it...

LOL...yeah sometimes I think that too. But I really didn't like the Xbox controllers, they are way too huge....I know there are smaller ones but still don't like them.

Thats how I feel too. I have both the regular controller and the smaller one, the S Pad or whatever it's called. The smaller one is ok, but the regular one is awesome. The only reason I bought the smaller one is because my friend hates the big ones.
I used to like the PS2 controller but after getting used to the Xbox controller, it seems cheap and way too small.

By far the best controller ever was the Dreamcast controller! It fit my hands perfectly. I wish I wouldn't have sold my Dreamcast, it was an awesome system with a ton of great games.

Chaos, did you try hooking it up to a different TV yet? I'm curious to see if that was the problem.

Cho, I wouldn't say that buying the PS2 was the problem, it's an excellent system. You can't argue with a library of games like that. The only thing I don't like is that there isn't an internal hard drive, so you have to buy the super expensive memory cards and they fill up quick. I guess the new DVD remote thing eats up 2MB of the 8MB on a memory card! Socom Navy Seals takes like 3MB!
I know you can get the 3rd party ones that hold like 30MB, but they always get screwed up and you lose your game saves. I only buy the official stuff, that goes for controllers too. I've lost too many saves to shitty cards. In my experience, most 3rd party controllers blow too.

I've filled up my PS2 memory card and have had to delete stuff to make room. On my Xbox, I've got everything saved with a shitpile more room to go. It still says I have 50,000 blocks left! I do have a memory card for my Xbox, but that only has a few things on it. It's damn near empty. Come to think of it, I don't know why I ever bought it!

yeah i have the card too, but the hard disk is gold. A friend of mine has put a 120gig one in to store movies. i have got Xbox media player on mide so i can play divx, avi, vcd ect its great. the xbox rules.
