Wich one of these cars do you think is faster
a) in straight line acceleration
and
b) around a track
This question came across my mind when watching to this month's Best Motoring International episode. Both cars are featured, but they're not directly compared.
About this comparo, in a straight line the Ford can be faster, because it's more powerful (550hp vs 500hp) and lighter (1550kg vs 1600kg), but the Skyline has much shorter gear ratios.
In what concerns to track performance, I think the Skyline can have some advantage, because it was built to excel on the track, and probably handles better. Here are some figures from this month's BMI:
New Fuji Speedway Circuit:
Nissan Skyline Z-Tune - 1:58,04 (276 Km/h on the straight)
Porsche 911 Carrera S - 2:01,18 (246 Km/h)
Honda NSX Type-R - 2:01,96 (---)
Subaru Impreza STi Spec-C - 2:02,87 (231 Km/h)
Nissan 350Z Nismo - 2:07,28 (220 Km/h)
Honda S2000 - 2:08,96 (213 Km/h)
Willow Springs Road Course:
Ford GT - 1:31,57
Nissan 350Z Nismo - 1:33,87
Willow Springs Full Course:
Ford GT - 1:37,01
Nissan 350Z Nismo - 1:48,13
What do you think?

Ford GT easily. IMO, skylines are way too over-rated

Well straight line Skyline. Its near 10s. Around a road course? hmmmm I think the GT will be easier and feel better to drive fast. The skyline seems more of a one trick pony IMO. But i would like to see them both around Nurgburgh ring.

Hmm, I don't think the Skyline Z-Tune, with 500hp and 1600Kg can do the 1/4mile in the 10's. More likely in the low 12's, high 11's. I believe the GT is faster in a straight line, my big doubt is on a track.

its been tested it runs 10.9 in the 1/4 the GT is running high 11s

how many crazy hard launches can the 500 hp z-tune skyline handle? Ford's GT can still do it on command (one i was in with 29,000 miles).
the GT is definately going to be faster on a track... lower CG, better weight distrabution, more predictable damping, gobs of torque that i wouldn't be so sure the skyline would have.

i'd say the ford gt is fasteron track, i know the ford gt is considerd as an exotic car but its a supercar killer! on TopGears track it has beaten both the Lambo Murcielago and the koenigsegg CC, its much faster then both the F430 and the gallardo!!
in a straight line the skyline would be like 0.8 sec faster, but on track i think the ford gt will bite the skylines head off..

Depends....on a straight line do u mean 0-60? or 1/4 or 0-120?
I think they will be quite close at the track, but I am leaning towards the skyline.

I`ll take the Skyline , maybe slower in a straightline , but on a track that super awd traction sistem could help the Skyline to get better times than the GT
So Skyline for me :)

Skyline is ghey!
The car drives you.
The GT is a drivers car, you drive it.
Contest won in favour of the Ford.
Skyline can suck it :fist:

Its in favor of the Skyline.
Dig up the Nuremburg times, I'd say GTR, AWD and clever traction control.

aftermarket, meh, its a better car. its more suited to run hard. not to be a mantel piece.

The Ford GT is a fast mother and is made to get the shit beaten out of it as with most Hi-Po cars they don't like to be babied although the Ford is supposed to be very easy to deal with in traffic and normal drving honestly on a Track the GT would most likely win with a skilled driver.

The Ford GT is a beast, but I don't think it can stand up to a factory tuned Skyline. Ever since the release of the r32 Skylines have been awesome track cars, and it wasn't because of their great straightline speed, simply because they don't have it.
If you've ever seen a properly tuned skyline on BM(MINES) you can see that a Skyline is far from a one trick pony. Now I don't know how extreme the Z-tune is, but it definitely has the straightline pace and that has never been the specialty of a factory skyline.

Nissan skyline all the way and the ford gt breaks all the time.
The skyline is the better package and it's the better suspension setup and more hardcore than the ford gt.
And it forget to say the corner entry speed and cornering pace of the gtr is much better and faster than the ford gt ever will be.
And in the hands of good driver the skyline is very hard to beat.
:D :) :D :) :D  :)

A trickey question, the ford would defintley have the muscle on the straight, but once a corner comes into sight, the skyline will come into play well considering it is AWD. But the GT is mid mounted, and RWD and very well balanced.
Is the Z-tune on GT4? anyone up for a test run?
But I would prefer to own the Z-tune skyline, its more exclusive than the GT, and tuned to be used hard and on a race track.
Back when the R32 GTR was released, it absolutley ate the crap out of the V8 supercars down here in australia, and it was so fast, they banned the car from racing around bathurst and basically competeing with the V8's becuase they where being out done in every field. And the holdens and fords used pretty much the same engine as the americans...

well, this is just my opinion; but anybody saying that the GT is common is just plain retarded... the skyline may be rare, and even more 'exclusive' in Z tune... but it still looks the part of an economy 2 door, that is where the Japanese just get it wrong. with the exception of the NSX, no japanese performance car looks the part, even in full aftermarket Uncle Bens' clad.
i would offer the only way the GT would be beat on a track is if the tires on the Skyline are semi-slicks that offer no roadholding in the wet... the GT's tires offer fair traction in the wet, and good traction otherwise.
the car is also quite tollerable in long distance driving... a conversation can be had in the cockpit at highway speed with no raising the voice.
and cirtainly, i would have more fun thrashing a GT around [read drivers car], and id love being in the sexiest car in production today

ok we are losing sight of the question. what is faster. hands down the Skyline. 10 sec. 1/4, handling is highly in favor of the skyline, and if you goto Nurburghring then the Skyline which has had 'Ring editions would simply walk the GT. even if they had the same tire, and with the same driver. its simple you all are just re-enforcing that fact saying that the GT can be driving to work. Its "soft" compared to the Z-tune. yes they are both awesome cars but the GT isn't a track car it mixs both world where as the Z-tune is a track car that can be street driven.

I don't think you get it the GT is a Factory car and the Z-tune is an aftermarket parts car pre-made

hands down the Skyline. 10 sec. 1/4, handling is highly in favor of the skyline,
unless the skyline dropped 300 kilos, i seriously doubt it will hit the 1/4 in the 10's... even if the gear ratio was geared specifically for the 1/4. its not a light-weight car.
the GT hands down would be easier to drive fast, and id stick with my comment that given the same tire compound, the GT is faster for the said reasons of a purpose built race-car for the road (low angular momentum vs. high in the skyline... lower CG, better weight distrabution, instant throttle response, more rigid hydroformed aluminum chassis/bodywork)
the GTR may have AWD, and a computer that cancells out under, then over-steer...but ultimately, such aids slow a car down... even on the f430, in Race mode, its still 1 second slower then ASR Off)
also, im not so convinced the GTR Z tune would do the Ring any better then a Stock GTR, as its not like a completely smooth race track... some of the bumps would take 2, 3, 4 wheels off the ground where some softer damping would be beneficial (or a high d/f car)
what the Z-tune has are a bunch of parts that make for a more powerful engine, and a stiffer ride... but doesnt address any further aids to track driving; based on the list.
I'd take the skyline. Just look at the Nurburgring lap times. The R33 went under 8 secs. Stock trim (supposedly). Besides, the GT will be stock and the GTR will be track tuned. Of course if raced on a track it'll be hard to pass a GT if the Skyline were behind.
