Same guys (http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=30057&sid=f42d5eae5705b45636f00f030da325ce) are trying the M5 with a chipped E55 now.

The M5 has 501hp and the E55 AMG "original" has 476hp... if the E55 has been chipped... why does the M5 still win???

how many hp has the AMG won? 5? :?

bmw is genius

BMW has always amazed me at how fast they go with the horsepower they're pushing but it wins because it has a 7 speed and bmw knows how to gear it perfectly for the car.

lol
a chip on a supercharger car at least 20hp+ i think

the 5 speed on the benz is weak compare to the 7 speed on the m5.. but m5 is underrated in horsepower anywayz

I know the new E60 M5 is fast, but i don't think it can beat a tuned E55 AMG and don't forget that the V8 5.5L supercharger is underrated in horsepower too:!: :!: Some of the oweners that took their W211 E55 to the dyno, they said that this engine produce around 520-530bhp :!: :!:
Anyway thanks for the video.

m5 is underrated in horsepower anywayz

I heard that BMW tends to underrate their cars...as well as Porsche and Audi. On the otherhand, the Japanese manufacturers tend to overrate (Mazda, etc.), except when it comes to the top of the line performance model, where they don't want to be over the "gentlemen's agreement" of maximum horsepower of like 270 or something. It was generally known that the Skyline GTR, WRX and EVO all put out more than 270-ish, despite the fact that that was the figure used...this is what I can recall from various articles I've read...but may not be 100% accurate...

yeah.... e55 u.s. and euro no difference i think... euro has 500hp and the u.s has 469?? same engine.. i think supposely a different exhaust, but i tought it..

and.. the e55 only has the chip.

another thing i think that m5 has advantage over many car is it's aerodynamic... they spend alot of time in the wiliam's wind tunnel

You're welcome..

ı dont think thats weird the M5 beats a chipped E55..
transmission difference is much more important here, than the power-tork difference..
when the M5 has an incredible transmission where the E55's is as poor as it can be.

and the technology difference they have.. the E55 released on 2001 I think?
they do RDs every single day for these kind of cars.

Depends on how much the vette is stronger in paper figures. Dont tell its power is lower than the CS :)

Also.. I think the difference between the SMG and MB5 is much mooore than the one betwen the CS and vette..

also 2.. Merc gives those horses with high torque-low rpm figures... whatever you do.. thats loss of performance when your rival has high rpm torque figures with an almost perfect torque curve.

anyway.. BMW is better than Merc :D :D

Acceleration is all about tractive power, which is determined by the shape of the torque and power curve of the engine and the gear ratios available, the 7 of the M5 mean that the tractive force available for an accelerative run in the BMW is far better than the merc with its 5 speeds, thats before you factor in the superior shift times of the beemer too. Basically peak torque and power figures mean shite, its all about the acceleration times 8)

Then why can a 2 speed powerglide beat a 4 speed etc, in a car with the same engine?
