Right guys, ill do my best to keep this updated.i think seen as this is going to have all the tracks and times,it would be best to either do a few tracks before you post your times so you can post a few times at once so we dont get a load of posts for each track.make it easier to keep an eye on who has done what if you get me.
Personally i think its best if you can provide a picture with your time on it as proof of your lap, whether it be a digital camera,a camera phone or even a short video could do it,just to make things more fair to everyone. :D
so,as it stands i have 10 tracks and cars so far which i think its a good few to keep us occupied.
RULE - each car can have an oil change and racing medium tyres.
Good Luck to you all :D

A couple of points:
* When is the finishing date?
- I would say 3 months from today.
* What points system will we use?
- my suggestion
1st - 10pts
2nd - 6pts
3rd - 4pts
4th - 3pts
5th - 2pts
6th - 1pt
i think if we do it this way we dont really need an end date.we could just keep it running and if anyone fancies a pop at some ones time they can do so.if anyone else thinks int he future of another track and car combo.then just say and ill add it to the first post
i have a driving force pro wheel till 2morrow night so im gettin a few times in on that, lol

I think we do need an end date and I reckon 3 months is good. If we don't have an end date we will never really get a winner. Plus after 3 months if everyone wants to keep going we can do another set of cars tracks.

i suggested we use at least one low speed technical track in this.
as these seem to be all either mid or high speed -medium to high speed corners.
something like opera paris with the zzII
monaco with an appropriate fast RACE car.
it would be cool to do one race with a "racing style" driving where its almost all stick or no slide?
just a suggestion.

That would make easier to check for best times.
And we can use the first topic everso opened to discuss the tracks.

1st samuraigti - 1.25.654
2nd detsan - 1.26.509
i cant even come close to touching those times
on leguna seca, i found some good techniques to get a few extra mph out of each turn... my own ghost helped me tons. definately a good fight to get its' top spot ;)
Nordschlife... what can i say, i love the track. i didnt record a 'perfect' time, so please top my time...around Brunnchen to Eiskurve the car was unstable... lift off, and braking at high speed is definately hard to handle
detsan

Have to agree that the ghost helps on Laguna Seca to shave off time.
Also helps me on the Nordschlife as well so as not to waste time on a lap that is beyond redemption(esp slow corner exits onto the fast flowing sections).
Nsx on Nordschlife is a great car. It is definently very nervous over crests and you really need to settle the car after a crest and before getting on the brakes or it spins like a mofo.
Post up times for Nordschlife nthfinity!

the ghost didnt help me at all for NS, so i turn it off (since i cant see the next corner so well, i usually late brake, or dont brake enough... its the times that i strive off of on NS... but that doesnt work for the smaller tighter circuits for me, on those, the ghost helps a lot.
i know approx. how many seconds i can shave off my time on NS with the NSX-R; but i'll wait before i shoot for that... kinda keep up the competition

Hi guys,
I am now playing for several days, and I can not get close to any of your times...
For example, on Laguna Seca with the M3, I can not get below 01:38:00 and still have 8s to gain...don't see!!
Is there some tricks to know??
I will continue to train this WE and see whether I can improve...
nthfinity
10-28-2005, 02:59 PM
lol, im glad to see you joining in, hamlet :)
first question, do you have the Logitech Momo Driving Force Pro ? that makes it much much easier to control the car, let alone... analgouge gas and brakes.
next, traction control, and acs needs to be turned off for the best control
a manuel also offers better ability to accellerate out of a turn.
finding the best line and braking zones is very important... it usually takes me about 3 laps to get within a second of what i concider a good pattern... ghosts also help me on most circuits... but not on NS
finally... are you using the Medium Slick race tire option? that will be nessisary. also... i know how you feel, on the Aston hot lap competition, im a full 3 seconds back
regarding the M3 Leguna Seca track... if i were to spend some more hours, i think only .2 seconds is possible, and turn 3/corkscrew/and last turn are the most important i think; let the others be decent, and work on those 3, and i think you'll see the most improvement.
post your times, and we'll add you to the hot-lap list :)
p.s. im still waiting for more people to run the NSX on NS... my time really isnt fast ;) lol
hamlet
10-29-2005, 03:31 AM
Ok, thanks for the tips...I will work on these 3 corners.
Otherwise I am only using the standard pad and no steering wheel. I tried once but I didn't like it. I can control better the car with the pad...at least that is what I believe but when you look at my times...
I will do a few tracks this WE and post my times next week. But no danger that I kick you out of the best times podium
cheers

Ok, after a full week-end of training on Laguna Seca, I was finally able to improve from my first 01:40...down to 01:33.9
http://img420.imageshack.us/img420/141/gt46qv.jpg
but still 3 seconds from the best times...I must just say http://yelims3.free.fr/Inclassables/Inclassable04.gif http://yelims3.free.fr/Inclassables/Inclassable04.gif http://yelims3.free.fr/Inclassables/Inclassable04.gif

10-31-2005, 07:33 PM
nice job, hamlet :) 3 seconds back really isnt that far back, and definately worth posting :)
i almost forgot one more pointer, that may be worth at least 0.5 seconds... do the oil change at GT Auto before you race, and you'll have a little extra power available in your first race (basically, dont exit, and restart) your tires will last indefinately basically.
all i can say for NS are a few things...
1:
watch some in-car videos of people running the Ring hard, then you can learn the racing lines pretty well... i found a good one with Darek Bell narating the corners, but the D/L takes a while.
 http://www.lad.lv/~martini/porsche/Videos/Nurburgring-956.mov
2: turn early on basically all off-camber turns, and before the chicane after the main straight, be careful LOL
i can guarentee my 7:26 is quite beatable... if you just dont go off track; sod the lines... you will likely be in the 7:30's... so braking points/lines will get 7:1X.XX  :P

i wonder if it's possible to do a 7:05????
its pretty funny, since my first 'hot lap' was that 7:26, 2 laps later, a 7:23, and i thought i might beat it by just a second or two, then i messed up pretty bad on the back section... and i thought i'd be slower.
i was suprised to see it say 7:17, so i called it quits then.

No TCS. TCS induces too much understeer and braking at high speeds is a small price to pay for the lack of understeer elsewhere ;)

thanks for pushing the updates taygunho :) you've improved quite a bit!
You are welcome. In my first attempts I was playing on arcade mode not in Gran turismo mode so I didn't have Racing medium tires. And I am playing with pads not with wheel. It is hard to turn and set throttle level so there is alotof tire spins. I am saving money for driving force pro. But I am still trying to improve my times on pad.

It's completely different with the wheel. All your setups you have with the pad are going to be entirely useless.
I picked up the wheel after x-mas, but haven't played it much. Finding a comfortable way to set-up the wheel is a pain.

it is kinda wierd, no doubt...
my biggest complaint about the wheel is that its too small, and awkward for 900 degrees of rotation... but its light years better then a d-pad, and better then any other wheel option ive seen :)

months ago f1 simulator ( actually f12005 and Logitech driving force [not pro] combination in car looked small box) came to my campus. It was too different to play with wheel compared to pads. You can adjust your wheel angle and throttle level so easily. I am sure that you have to change your setups and driving style. But my biggest question is after I bought it To where I should put it. I mean will I have to put it on a table to play. Because of my room setup it would be so hard to play.
What is your room setup? Do you have pics for advice?

nthfinity: You don't need to wait for me to beat you: go back to work  (I'm allready practicing...)
i wonder if it's possible to do a 7:05????
its pretty funny, since my first 'hot lap' was that 7:26, 2 laps later, a 7:23, and i thought i might beat it by just a second or two, then i messed up pretty bad on the back section... and i thought i'd be slower.
i was suprised to see it say 7:17, so i called it quits then.
at 7:11, theres' a new number to shoot for  damn thats fast for a D-pad... for a wheel too  (any traction control setttings on???)
The answer is definitely "Yes", I'll post some pics to back up my story, but I got my 'Ring time down to 7:06.xxx today and made a couple of pretty costly errors, I'd estimate a 7:00 flat is possible.

about tsukuba... komotar really put a hard one there... on my own record lap, only one or two turns were perfect [turns 3 and 4]... but overall, were faster then what i had been doing... if that makes sence... the real speed there comes from the final turn, im pretty sure... its been a while since i played that track... but i think a 1:02.1 ought to be possible

I got the 'ring down to a 7:02.89 and I had a flying lap going nearly 3.4 seconds faster than that, but fucked up the last turn before the long straight and lost it all. So for those unbelievers out there, a sub 7:00 lap in the '02 NSX-R is certainly doable.

Well...SS R5 is a bit of a pain in the ass...the apexes are easy enough to see but the actual clipping points that you want to use are often not where you expect them to be...the best advice anyone can really give is probably just to be really smooth and try and transition from brake to accel and vice-versa as smoothly as possible so as not to end up with the tires losing grip...
My sort of rule of thumb is to keep the car from sliding whenever possible. I basically try and keep the tires from talking at all if I can.

Ok nickthaskater, Your time at Tuskuba and Laguna are really annoying me.........
So far
1'02.4xx at Tuskuba
1'29.7xx at Laguna
about .3 off on both :x
The annoying this is that I can see at least 4 tenths of time at Tuskuba
and probably near 8 theths of time at Laguna. Just cant seem to put it together without freaking something else up yet. :?
Im proud to say my Nurburgring efficiency (and learning) is slowly getting better. I lapped a ~7'30 with 2 wrecks and many terribly missed clipping points. I imagine when I learn the track, i'll be running with you folks.
Anyway, at work.........peace

Cool, well the way I am.... If you lower the time, i'm not going to stop until I get there. Honestly I havnt played any GT since late last year, just a few GT3 drifting spurts about 3 months ago. Im glad your putting those times down, I have something to go for.
As for Tuskuba, getting times lowered there is tedious because the track is short so there isnt much room for error. I'm losing speed on 2 turns, so I assume a 1'01.9low (maybe even high eights) is about as fastest lap that can be down without being perfect.
I know you can bring your time down at laguna, because I am pretty consistent around 1'30.low there.
I am going to try those again tonight, then I am going to start trying for the other ones this weekend.
You said you have been in other competitions--How do your times/skills line up with other people around the net? Im curious to see how I compare.
At Tuskuba I maintain an average speed of around 81-83 mph (i think). It is difficult to keep the same line everytime. How about you all?

I've only partaken in competitons on ign.com, but I'm consistently in the top 2 among 20+ people there.

Nice lap!!! I'll have a go at it as soon as I string together a proper 'Ring lap...I only put in about 30 minutes yesterday.

Alright...I'm doing my best to retake the leaderboard, I think I've got them all so far muahaha.
On the 'Ring, I managed to string together a 6:59.031 which is about 2 seconds too slow. I still had a couple of minor problems on the course which all-in-all probably mean that a 6:56/7 is very doable.

At Tsukuba I managed to get into the 1:01-range with a 1:01.866. I'd been trying for months to break into the 1:02's and for some reason today some of the corners just made more sense than they had been.

Looks damn good to me. :o Guess ima have to work harder than I thought **gets ready for long weekend of frustration** Keep it up, before long we are going to push each other into perfection.
Anyway, still at the workplace..... peace
P.S. That blasted wheel hop/lack of traction on corner exits when using the civic sure is annoying. It seems like it ought to be better with those tires, but I guess not........

Ok, kinda tired of Tuskuba now, gotta take a break on it 1'02.037
Laguna Seca just doesnt want me to progress in life, cant completly put together the Vaquish beating time yet. Its there...I have smelled it..........and then i realize that its just the smell of the brakes from braking too hard and too early on the last corner..... :|

It's been a while, but the 'Ring has always been my favorite track in GT4 and when I play, I almost invariably run some hot laps in some mid-engined rear-drive car, often the NSX. The NSX-R is definitely one of the most impressive cars in the game and makes 'Ring attacks surprisingly easy. That being said, I still believe a 6:56 is possible, as I can point to a couple of spots where I definitely lost enough speed that 2 seconds ought to be possible.
The Laguna time, I don't know if you guys have been using the "out-of-bounds" area at the end of the front straight before the Andretti hairpin, but I've found I can carry a lot more speed into it and then through the second apex if I do...in essence I'm making the hairpin a much wider-radius turn. That's where I found a lot of the time I made up today.

Hmm, naw I havnt used that one. The way it sounds, you are simulating a decreasing radius turn. I will try that one.............prolly tommorow. Thanks

... So you're driving off the racing surface. I've always raced to standards where you're expected to stay on the actual track.

07-28-2006, 12:58 AM
lol...well we can get rid of the Laguna time if you like, that's certainly not the "racing surface" per-se. I'll see about setting a different time tomorrow :-)
On the other hand, the 'Ring time is perfectly legal, though I had a couple of left and right-wheel excursions onto the grass for a moment or two...hence my claim that it's quite possible that another couple of seconds could be lopped off.

Yeah, I have always run on the "intended" racing line. The corkscrew on Laguna Seca is tempting, but I say as long has you have the outside 2 wheels of car on the course when making a corner, it is ok. After all this is what some of the "devoted" GT3/4 ranking sites say is legal.....Hell Schuie does it all the time! :D
I tried that "out of bounds" thing last night. That mess doesnt work for me. LOL... I am faster just using the intended racing line.
Last night I also realized that times at Trail Mountain can be shaved off by using the the grass on the left and right silly bit, coming up to the finish line. Not to downplay anybody on the board, but I wouldnt be surprised if somebody has used that area to shave some time. I think it would be ok if we just used the honor code and everybody stick to the lines. We can go by the driving rules at this site, except for the "full tune" part.

Fair enough, sounds like an excellent plan. Good to have a proper set of rules as well, and Laguna has been removed from the list above. There are also a couple of sections on Deep Forest that can be used in a similar way to the Trial Mtn. example you gave.

well, i just set a personal best after a few laps...
there are a 5 corners i'm losing more then a second with this run... and some others it's less then a second...
but my new NS lap time is "only" ... 7:06.623 with no cheater lines :P compared to my 7.11.439 , I'm definately happier with a 4.8 second improvement... but i'm still a few 10ths behind your previous record
I see I have a ways to go..... perhaps in 8 minutes, i'll have a 7:03.xxx
http://img346.imageshack.us/img346/7773/img15341os5.th.jpg (http://img346.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img15341os5.jpg)
Edit
well, 4 laps today, and i'm consistantly hitting sub 7:10's ... i just can't quite put it all together... a 7:03 is easily in my grasp... but one lap i'll screw up the high speed off camber turn going towared Aremburg.... and the next lap i'll be 5 seconds up, then screw up a series of turns losing 3 of those made up seconds...
no real use posting a new picture, but now im down to 7:06.495
if only i could piece together my time sectors with at the beginning with my good sectors at teh end...
43.111
1:17.117
1:45.653
in that third time sector, i know there is another tenth or two...
but on that pace, i could hit 7 flat... damn my mistakes :P

its really wierd when i can run a 7:13 with a full spin-out crash, and terrible lines in some sector...
i can run the back half pretty fast.... but when i do, i usually screw up the first 1/2 :?
keep in mind... before yesterday, a 7:11 was super freekin fast to me... i just needed some motivation to break the mold that a 7:11 was fast..
i know exactly when a corner is going to be fast... and on technical fast sectors, im within 1-2 mph difference from lap to lap.. and on the fast corners, im hitting exactly the same mph exits each time...

ok, i hit the 7 minute barrier; and over the course of 4 laps went from warm-up 7:08 to 7:06 to 7:03.8 and finally a 7:00.934 !!!!
well, i still may not quite be as fast as you... but i'm damn close!
there was some seconds i lost out on in 3 corners in the back... but with how fast i ran the front half; i didn't want to lose all that speed.
so yeah, with more patience, i could work in a 6:58.. but 7:00 is good enough for today... but hot damn... i think i was on par for a 6:56 if i ran the back as aggressively as the front!
the toughest high speed corners i've perfected finally!

Hey just curious what is everyone using? Wheel or Joypad? If wheel if you dont mind please tell what kind. I need to get my hands on a DFP but thinking about not since new GT is coming out and the DFP might not be compatibale with it and also bunch of new wheels such as Logitech G25 or something like that?
I keep getting a lousy ass time on the ring of round 7: 30. :( Havent played that much recently since I hardly get time rite now.

i can't speak for the sub 7 minute guys; but i find that run wayyyy faster with trail breaking, particularly through the tricky high-speed sections. the fast times definately don't come from late braking, but high mid corner speed, and high exit speeds. an extra 4 mph exit will make up a second before the next turn in many cases i think.
the key is to have as little weight transfer as you can, that keeps the rear end from losing grip, and plants the front planted with little to no understeer.
I use a DFP.
joehan uses a standard d-pad to get a 7:10 and less
Vansquish

I've been primarily using the standard d-pad for the most part, but I can match times more or less with the DFP.

I use the analog stick.
I usually mess up on the high speed sections when I push to hard, lose traction, catch my rear on the gravel/grass.........and off I go. I'm workign on it though.
