^^^^ BMW says they might rather run a v-10 with a rev limit :P

any who this is a repost to anyone who checks out the f1 section

Am i the only one that's paranoid that we'll end up seeing 1.5L 4 cylinder engines with the direction the FIA is going? Just stick with a goverened V-12 dammit!!

why stick with the same rules? rule changes are what forces further development of current and new technologies.

if the rules allways stayed close to exactly the same... racing would get boring (especially at the level that f1 is at) and that's not what we want.

i think its great they are pushing for smaller longer lasting more efficient engines. its going with the current world trend that lighter=equals faster.

i wouldn't mind seeing a 1.5 litre v6 make 900 horsepower and still last 2 weekends.

you?

Do you realize how bad a 1.5L V6 would sound? It would sound like an RC engine. And the technology that goes into the cars goes way beyond the limits of the engine, and the only reason were seeing smaller engines is to restrict them and soon enough they will always find a way around the restriction and get right back to the power they were before so why not just engine restriction and let them get a governed V-12 which would sound amazing and the way F1 should sound. You would actually see more technology if they were less restricted such as aerodynamics that change for each turn which they won't allow anymore.

who cares about the sound. the sound of a car isn't going to win a championship. why a 1.5 over a 2.5?

1.5 is lighter. and if eventually ( like i was saying earlier and you agree) they reach the same amount of power as a 2.5....

well, you know the rest.

but the whole point of lowering the liters of the engine is for safety since they're running 900hp and they're trying to find ways of slowing it down, so whats the point when you know they're going to eventually reach 900hp again but it'll sound like ass, and if you've ever been to an F1 race you would know that sound does matter, and the V-10's just sound amazing especially launching from the starting grid. The sound gives a feeling for a car and if it sound like a motorcycle then where the hell is the feeling?

ahem.

i happen to enjoy the sound of a motorcycle.

but i agree the sound of a car has alot to do with the appeal and soul of the vehicle. however. i'm sure this argument has been debated for more than 50 years. yet... we still enjoy and drool over the sound of current engines because that's what we grow up with.

either way, the cars didn't get to where they are now by comforming to current standards of what an exceptable race car is.

let's face it. they are faster, meaner, more appealing and just plain sexier than the cars of yesturday.

and the evolution of technology will continue to follow that trend and produce faster and safer cars for all of us to enjoy and dream over.

I too enjoy the sound of a motorcycle, but that should stay exclusivley to the motorcycle (except for the Radicals :) ). I actually think the sexiest F1 cars were in the late 50's but thats me, but i also the evolution of technology that comes from F1 as well and i can't wait to see what they look and sound like 50 years from now, hopefully they won't be electric :( , haha.
