Magazine C6 Z06 test data:

Car & Driver:
11.7 sec @ 125 MPH 1/4 mile
0-60 in 3.6 sec.
0-100 in 7.9 sec.
0-150 in 17 sec.
Skidpad = 0.98g

Motor Trend:
11.5 sec. @ 127 MPH 1/4 mile
0-60 in 3.7 sec.
Skidpad = 1.02 g

Add to this a 7m42s Northloop time - and the GM test track 202mph top speed... you have a rather serious automobile.

Now folks may understand why those heads/cam C5 Z06's running around with 430rwhp (500hp)are rather untouchable ;)

running around with 430rwhp (500hp)

i read somewhere that it actually makes 511bhp (505 hp). nitpicky stuff but an amazing car. supposedly the fastest GM production car ever.

the 505/511 number is USA SAE HP / DIN PS.

Another doubter? ;)

The manufacturers claim/rating is 198mph - to keep it below the 200mph psycological barrier... afterall, 200mph cars are dangerous..

The car has however pulled over 200.

Just as many 500hp+ modded C5's have - GPS verified.. :)

Maybe now our cars will begin to be taken seriously... ;)

Enzo performance!!

You seriously think it could out hustle an Enzo around Nordshleife?

Great car, very fast, but its far from Enzo and CGT territory.

I'm sure if you had the money to make it equal to a C6R in terms of handling and performance it would spank the shit out of an Enzo and CGT on Nordschleife.

I'm wondering if they quote the top speed under 200 mph for insurance reasons aswell?

Enzo performance!!

Great car, very fast, but its far from Enzo and CGT territory.

It will definitely lose the edge to Enzo in terms of Aerodynamic efficency and Suspension geometry......it afterall is a no compormise supercar.

But hey, z06 is down 150 hp from the Enzo.......so with some tuning, I will say it should get to 7:3x ...so not too far from the Enzo I say. (maybe I should put a almost ....so won't be as misleading :)

To answer some questions on the c6 zo6
Cost in the US is 65000 dollars.
The car was uprated to 505 hp thanks to the new tests they have from sae. It causes most of the gm lineup to raise in rating and most japanese cars to drop ironically. It involves things like whether the accessories belt has to be attached on dino.

This is how ugly rumours start :)

The "Blue Devil" concept exists in design (maybe in car form as well), but was not the car taken to the Nurburgring. And considering Jan M and John H both confirmed they were driving a C6 Z06, I thought we had cleared that up a long time ago :)

IF you ever bothered reading the many car magazines(yes - even "US" Car mags), you would know that Viper, Vette and Mustang are treated with the same contempt you are treating them - just because they are American cars.

Saying something as stupid as "isn't there a chance they might do their absolute best they can to get the best time out of the 'vette cos its an american icon?" is simply your way of jabbing at a US car because you have nothing further valid to add to the discussion.

Other then motor trends review of the gt40, all of those magazines are known to have some of the worst drivers on the planet. Really sad cause you think it would be different, but what does it say when (for example) the 88 camaro iroc I had was in their magazine for running a 14.6 in 1988. 15 years later, completely stock with all sorts of problems(before I did the mods and made it completely undragable) I ran a 14.6. I might be good at corners, but I know damn well I shouldnt be able to pull as good a time as a professional with any car in a drag race cause it is not my forte. Espcially not in a 15 year old car with 100000 miles.

Car and driver and motortrend both fall over themselves to put foreign cars over American cars. It often comes off as snobbery.

no RC actually im just wondering cos 3.6 is a really fast time, but since the F430 did the same i was probably wrong in thinking it was almost impossible for hte Z06 to reach it...but still i in no way meant to jab at the US or US cars, and no i hardly ever read american car mags, whats wrong with asking a question about them? i said "isnt there a chance", not "im sure". i htink it was a valid question. dont be so suspicious of everything, its not my goal in life to say as many bad things about the US as possible, although you seem convinced otherwise. even a bigger shock to you: there are actually things i like about the US, and id like to go there some time, and not to find more things to complain about...as i said dont be suspicious of everything, we're not in a big anti-US conspiracy (well im not anyway)

Extremely impressive times 8) - I think C&D got the same 0-60 for a Euro 430 but the American 430 is heavier and slower.

The 0-60, 0-100, 0-150 of a Ford GT is 3.6, 8.4, 19.1 - so the Z06 puts it to shade -now thats awesome considering it has 50 hp lesser than the GT. It must be at least 200 lb or more lighter to get such times.

Sure it is not in the same class as the Enzo or CGT or Zonda F but it is pretty darn close and would cost 1/4 - 1/6 as much.

The Z06s (both of them) are objectively as good if not better as cars 2X-3X its price. The only thing going for the Italians and Germans are subjective factors like style, pedigree, quality of handling (not g numbers per se but how it corners).

Considering that C5s are going for USD30K now it would be a great buy for the price of a 2000 Boxster S.

yes but in my eyes the Spyker isn't so much focused on super performance (although ofcourse beign a supercar it's gotta be very fast and all) but more on looks, show-off and exclusivity. It will indeed be interesting to see the Z06 compared to other performance supercars (GT3, F430, and loads of others) and as was already said the Ford GT...wow the people at ford aren't gonna be happy about the Z06 lol...another american with comparable performance, but then based on a "normal" sportscar like the corvette, and also i believe alot cheaper...better hope for Ford they've already sold all of their GT's (although i would still rather have a Ford GT cos it looks AWESOME IMO) cos the Z06 is a serious competitor for it

Well same. With some tunning you can get 700bhp out of that V12. I have no doubt about that. It does have the potential to have FXX power, which uses the same engine that is tuned. And factory tunes engines with reliability in mind. So it could in a 3rd party tuners hands do even more then the FXX.

fine it just anoys me sometimes

You fanboys/haters annoy the hell out of everybody by sticking your Vette in every single thread on the forum.

If its a thead about an FXX we hear how your Vette with enough cash can beat it.

If its about an Enzo, oh some small time tunnning will beat that also.

I suggest you put all that "the Vette is so great" propaganda in your sig, so you dont have to post whoore about it all the time.

:D

BTW How is your EVO? Why didnt you buy a Vette when you had that EVO? Maybe you should have said you had a Vette instead, it being so affordable and everything, we all might as well have bought it. and by it I mean, you know, I dont have to say it again do I?

F430... now the $65,000 C6 Z06 destroys it before it even establishes itself ;)

Yea yea sure thing. Oh and the next Z06 will beat the next F-car, and the next will do so too, we all know that, you dont have to say it all the time, just stick it in your sig so you dont have to repeat your self every couple of years that a new performance car comes out, ok? Thanks in advance.

what the fuck are you talking about you whinner this thread is about the Corvette and I'm not the one who came in hear saying the Vette can beat a Ferrari someone else did and you said no chance so I had to back the guy up since it is true. And I don't go around to all your Ferrari is god threads and start spewing the FACTS that a Corvette is and has the potential to walk the floor with most Ferraris. Fuck atleast we accept that we will probably never own a Ferrari but can have that kind of earth shattering performance for less than 1/3 the price and still have some decent Mileage out of it aswell Oh and cheaper insurance and cheaper service intervals/parts and a trunk and ease of use among other things. And stop bringing up old topics you baby it's like you need to bring up things no one cares about anymore to make yourself feel more superior just go back to moderating your Ferrari Central, god forbid we make any comment that might make the Ferrari not seem like it belongs at the pinnacle of Automotive performance/perfection. Seriously Ferrari's are great but you have to accept the fact that there are contendors out there capable of knocking them down a peg or 2 or off the podium all together

I give the Z06 all the credit it deserves, what I fucking hate is when the fanboy crew brings up the fucking car is every single thread, how great it is and how it can destroy anything on this very planet with some proper work.

Im just sick of it, plain and simple, cant go anywere withouht the fucking Vette coming up.

I never hate on that car, never say anything bad about without being sarcastic.

Its you the fanboys who only accept the fucking vette is the holy grail of all and everything else is fucking shit ass poser mobile eurotrash, hippy, latte, hair dresser, poofta peice of foreign shit.

Seriously, Vettes are great, but you have to shut the fuck up every once in a while about it.

Not one group on this forum pushes one car like you guys do.

I only step in when you shit all over the competition, and Im stupid for doing so, better shit to do then argue with someone who doesnt want to accept anything, if its fact, if its a magazine article, if its a video if its anything, it either wrong, biased or just straight up bullshit printed because Ferrari paid em to.

So whatever buddy, go jerk off to some Vette pics. BTW No offence, I have my political hat on.

Hhhmm -- I doubt anybody in the world has claimed that any Corvetee, let alone the C5 or C6 Z06 is the best... or the greatest ... or the fastest..

In fact - I would say that the "Vette Fan boys" of JW are the most accepting of the fact that the Vette is NOT the be all and end all.

In fact we accept the fact that it is the performance equal of a number of specific cars - and that there are a another group that are almost untouchable in performance terms.. and without signifcant investment a Corvette could not touch them.

On the other hand we can go dig up HUNDREDS of thread where Tifiso flat out call anyone who says the Vette is a performance equal of the F360/CS a liar.

Such threads go on for pages - and even when specific numbers are shown, videos and personal anetcdotes relayed - even stories retold of F360CS owners with Z06's - they STILL deny all evidence and say it is just not possible and then list all the reasons why even if it were true, a Ferrari is still better.. :P

That is proof of dillusion ;)

Do you take anything that Clarkson says seriously? I sure as hell dont. I mean, he bitched about plastic bumpers on the Vette, and said that a digital clock ruins F360s interior. Oh and he also loves bought a Merc. Clarkson is nothing more but good British intertainment, so forget Clarkson.

And before you accuse of others of not giving credit to the Vette, look at your buddies first. It looks like the only time plastic interior comes into argument is when some Vette fan boy comes crashing in saying how great the Vette is, so people fire back by saying it has a steering wheel out of some truck, shitty plastic interior, bumpers made of porcelain.

I give it all the credit it deserves. And so does everybody, people from this forum who never even post in any of these arguments who I talk to through msn and such all give it the same credit it as me...

So it goes? Great. Leave it there, no need for reminders.
So does a 911. I dont see St. Anger saying it in every topic like an obsessed school boy.
So does the F430. I dont go saying how great it is. I dont go quoting every magazine who praises it.

Notice how offended everyone is that we dare suggest a "yank tank" can equal or better a piece of unreliable Eyetie junk :P ;)

Having grown up around Alfa's, Fiats Pug, Renaults, Citroens and the like (yes we had lots of those in South Africa) their reputation for bad electronics, unreliable mechanicals, rusting at the mere suggestion of rain and over all pathetic value was legendary.

How ever, we were still encouraged to overlook all of these FACTS as these cars all had, whats the word... heritage or some crap. :P

The Farrari and Lambo were more of the same - onyl costing 100x more ;)

This bias is ingrained in all people... and this is why it is so difficult for people to accept the truth that Ferrari is not the ultimate... ;)

ANd besides, if these guys take the time to read the magazine articles, you can still see plain as daylight, that C&D and MT only give the C6 Z06 a positive cover tagline - the articles are thinly veiled musings of authors who are only giving the Corvette credit begrudgingly at best.

They are just itching to let loose with complaints about fit, finnish, interior and heritage - but hold back.

But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that if they didn't have the test results they had, there is no way in hell these 2 magazines would even print the Corvette name on the same page as a Ferrari comment - let alone admit it is faster in a straight line - but then the very next sentence appologise for the F-car price etc...

Even when "we" win, we lose because of the way we win ;) hehehe :P

Don't take my word for it you silly arsehole (adn I calling it like I see it - you are now just acting like a silly arsehole) - read the test results and weep. (oh and it is about anti-US cars - you just won't admit it :P)

Unless you are now going to claim that the 7m42s Nurburgring time is a lie.

Unless you are now going to claim that the 0-60 in 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7s is a lie.

Unless you are now going to claim that the 0-150 in 17s.

Unless you are now going to claim that the 1/4 mile in the mid 11's @ 125/127mphe etc is a lie.

Read the entire thread again you obtuse fucker (again calling it like I see it) - the inference was that the car is IN THE SAME BALLPARK..... for fucks sake - does every yahoo have to try be the super-detective and disprove every goddamnedthing in the world.

You are a 100% perfect example of the kind of person we have been talking about.

Even with pure numbers in front of you - you are so biased you will look right past a number and deny it is any proof of anything.

Back to the topic:

The C6 Z06 numbers are coming in, and the car is proving to be everything we thought it would be.

Even if you don't want it to be... it is the car you people hate to admit it is :)

You are such a funny typical non-believer.

I shall repeat for the world to see - the C6 Z06 is NOT the be all and end all - it is NOT the ultimate car - it is NOT the greatest of the greatest... hell it is NOT even an exotic...

It is simply a $65,000 car that can run and gun with the CGT, the Zonda, the Enzo and - yes, even the Macca F1... I mean all the cars listed can do 0-60 in about 3.5s, the 1/4 minle in the low 11's at 127+mph - and can run to 150 mph in less than 18 seconds - sure they may run on to 220mph or what ever, but in a street encounter, the few times the CGT, Enzo or Macca driver will have driven their car, will mean they wouldn't have the confidence to run much past 190 or so... I mean that is still 40 seconds or so of full throttle...

So that means - on the day, it would come down to driver :P

And this pisses you all off so much  hehehe..

A cheap plastic Chevy can run and gun with your favourite dream cars. :P

Poor kids dreams are all shattered.

I'm not a silly arsehole, I'm not an obtuse sucker

I'm not anti-US car, I think the Ford GT is a great car, the Corvette is great car, the Viper is a great car, the Mustang, the Magnum, the 300C...are beautiful cars.

Talking about Nurburgring times, the standard C6 mfr. time was 7:56, Sport Auto time was 8:15. I think that SA tests are way more reliable than mfr. times. It's well known that with a special set up for the track, a car can be way faster than stock cars, so this is why SA is the "Bible" for NS times. Just wait until SA tests the new Z06.

Talking about test data, american magazines always set stupidly fast times when they test the cars, this is why I read magazines like EVO , Autocar or Sport Auto to know the REAL performance of the car they test.

RC just on a little side note, most McLaren F1's are driven regularly, most of the cars that are sold have thousands and thousands of miles on them. now for the whole SA test thingy etc etc...if we're gonna compare ring lap times, nothing is as reliable as SA. we'll have to wait and see what time SA gets out of the Z06. if thats 7:42, fine with me. as i said of the car mags' opinions i trust evo's most, and SA's 'Ring lap time is the thing i'd go by when comparing cars performance. no matter what the outcome.
btw i didnt know the SA C6 lap time was a pre production model, but if u say so, ur the expert

Id venture to guess a drag strip with radar gun is far more accurate then any v-box. As I told you before Ive beaten their times in my cars repeatedly, and while Im a good corner driver, drag racing is an entirely different beast. (I'm not completely inept, but Im no proffessional when it comes to timing lights and getting the power down.) With very few exceptions the American magazine times are generally slower.

well i think this really is one of those few exceptions...cos i really doubt that other car mags will run it significantly faster, i mean a 505hp 1400kg car doing a (for instance)3.2 0-60?? doubt it, thats the time of the McLaren F1 with 627hp and only 1140kg's (dunno torque figures out of the top of my head but they arent exactly low in the big mac either)

So one magazine uses a vbox thats callabrated a specific way and stays with that same vbox. Going to a different vbox would generate that same difference(there margin of error is within that bounds). Not to mention comparing a US mag to a different mag will show you the US has significantly slower times.
Also some of what they technically discuss on the drag strips simply isnt true. While some have leway like is discussed, some are actually much more accurate depending on what competition occurs there.

I wonder how many street driven 500hp+ cars there are in your town?

At 420hp, in my town I have the lowest / weakest car of the folks I drive with. When we go for a drive there will be I guess 15 500hp cars, 5 or so 600hp cars and at least 1 or 2 650+hp cars.

When you see these cars rolling you realize a couple things:

First - 1 or 2 seconds is won or lost with reaction time, Second - 500hp is a lot of street hp - these cars are fast - very fast.

And that speed is the same whether Chevy, Dodge, Porsche or Ferrari.
:)

Any way.. let's get back to the argument at hand... :)

graywolf624

Do they have to recalibrate the satellite?

The vbox still needs to be recalibrated. The satallites don't give the time, they give a triangulation which is used to calculate given a number of variables. GPS systems recalibrate every time they are turned on or off.
In fact, its even worse then that. Due to sample rate and transmission delay there is a possibility for inaccurate readings to a specific mph. Youll find the vbox has at least a similar margin of error to the time difference discussed (we are talking fractions of a second with differences in heat/surface/care temperature ect factored in). Owning a device similar to a vbox and using it to double as a speedometer at one point, I can independently verify this.
Manufacturer of vbox's own numbers(not independently verified). sample rate 20 a second.. internal latency 80 ms.. accuracy in speed displayed: .003 km/hr.
Now do the math and that comes out to a very likely .1-.2 off a given time (there competitors claim there accuracy is worse, but Ill give them the benefit of the doubt).

Furthermore as I edited above, not all drag strips are created equal. It depends on what level of competition and the type of tree how accurate they are. It also depends on where your staged(early, later, or just right.)

As I stated above, even more proof is how c&d and motor trends times are always far slower then other magazines.

Acceleration times base highly on Torque figures (and curve).

I don't believe there are alot of 500+hp cars out there. F430 is almost 500hp but with much less torque and with similar weight, doesn't take a genius to believe that it could beat it.

think the equipment that the aussie mag used was perfectly calibrated. Have you read the explanation of why costumers "can be faster" at the racetrack?

Did you read my analysis of the accuracy numbers claimed by the manufacturer of the vbox above and that not all drag strips have similar equipment? It stands to reason, and is true, that an NHRA track that services cars with alcohol has superior equipment to your local dragstrip.
Whats the point? It means that you can't compare times from 2 different sets of people or even the same at a different set of temperatures. Given weve already told you the american mags are all inept people(hell almost none of them even really have racing experience) you should take our word for it. Whether the Corvette z06 will be an exception is unknown, but I always consider consistant american mag times to be conservative.

Well - there are at least 25 SRT/10's in Houston - although NW Dodge claims they have already sold 50 (and that's just 1 of 3 Viper dealers) , so who know ;)

We got 3 or 4 CGT's and at least 2 Enzos.. I mean 1 (the one burned up remember ;)).

ANy way, the point being made with the 500hp+ car comments, was as a point of refrence for street drivers.

We do have an ass loda of modded 500+hp cars in Houstn - hundreds... so, on any given evening here you will run into 3 or 4 500+hp cars so you will always get a chance to see just what 500hp+ does on the street.

It is quite appapernet from the comments of the many "hero car worshippers" and other magazine racers, that they don't realize that 500hp is 500hp - whether GM, Dodge, Ford, Ferrari or Porsche... and when you see 500+hp get up and go - it get's up and goes.

Many of us on JW have seen, smelt and tasted such cars on the street, the track and drag strip - this is why when we see numbers from the F430, E60 M5, SRT/10, C6 Z06 which are on a par with many of our or our friends modded Viper GTS's, C5 Z06's, P911TT's etc... we know the cars will be very close.

So close in fact, that it WILL come down to driver. :)

But now someone's probably gonna quote and say "You fucking moron, you'd rather have a piece of unreliable mega-duper-super slow (which it isn't) Ferrari rather then a mean muscle machine like the Z06". Or not...

No - someones gonna quote and say:

If you are a "money is no object" person go get your Ferrari.. any Ferrari..

In the mean time, us normal folks, will admire Ferrari, acknowledge it has some "my dick is bigger than your dick" appeal to those who don't own one.. (as you will seldom see an F-Car owner act like the wannabe Tifosi... :P) then we'll go drive our real (as opposed to fantasy) cheap plastic Chevy.

You opinion counts diddly squat... why you ask? Because it does. ;)

Road & Track are useless twits most of the time.

It is a well measured performance mark that has been reached with the 385 and 405 hp C5 cars. What mark you ask... 0-60mph in 4s...

It doesn't take much intelligence to realize that with better grip (wider tyres) the same weight and 100 more hp, you will surpass that figure...

If you can drive worth a fuck.

And as far as 1/4 mile numbers, many owners equal and better magazine number regularly...

Minivan & Carpool Lane, sold under the misnomer Road & Track are well known for rather pathetic driving.

But at times, using competent testers they surprise everyone and post decent times.

You can try justify all you want - but it will not detract from the actual performance of the car, one iota. :)

Don't be such a hater - 3100lbs, 425rwhp (505bhp) is enough to get a sub 4s 0-60... ;)

Unfortunately the mustang has always been a preference for style over driver dynamics. They have stayed true to the over the last 30 years. Dont get me wrong they have decent performance versions, but the v6 are their key. The corvette on the other hand has always been a sports car.

The mustang is also not, nor has ever been, a muscle car. It was a pony car, but given its baloon in weight and focus on v6, its sorta sketchy to still call it that.

I can now comment on why R&ts time was much slower 0-60 then c&d/motor trend. Reading the articles, R&T actually shifted on the way to 60. C&d and motor trend did not. Its there for all to see in when motortrend (and autoweek for that matter) talk about reaching 60 just after redline without a shift. R&T however says the car almost makes it to 60, indicating they shifted. Now realizing we already think they dont know how to drive cars cause they are magazine writers, and they shifted when they didnt have too, the explanations for their slower time are obvious for 0-60. There 1/4 is still way slow too, but it sounds like perhaps they didnt shift properly.

If this is what a bone stock 4,000 mile old test car C5 Z06 can do - why the hell do dumb-arse jagoffs find it so hard to believe that 100 extra horsepower is going to be faster???

Uhm - perhaps the conventional laws of algebra say so.

Whether hp/lb or lb/hp, the lighter car with the higher power will still be - uhm... what's the phrase I am looking for??

Oh yeah - it will still be the lighter car with more power. No matter how you slice it :)

Basic Algebra(I feel moronic even having to say this, but apparently Lambor bit on what appears to be a jk):

hp/lb is the inverse of lb/hp..The lowest number is best for lb/hp as seen here.. the highest number for hp/lb is best. Given they are inverse the number has the same meaning.. Thats why I said I hope hes joking.

Not the same meaning, but they can be compared just as validly

I only wrote what I did because i thought it was slightly amusing that they wrote Power to Weight, and actually listed Weight to Power

Not the same meaning,
Meaning in terms of both sources mean power to weight and weight to power. Simply put 1 over either number and you have the number your searching for.

There are several questions about that as its not true at all.....

if we are going to talk about American supercars we should talk about things like the Saleen S7.....not the vette a supercar are something different than a 20 a dusin sportscar like the vette.....

OK - you make such a statement - which then by your definition means the likes of Porsche 911TT/GT3/GT2 are not Supercars either... neither is the F360xx of the F430xx... They are all Super Sports Cars. :)

Problem solved.

The Z06 is the USA's Super Sports Car - it is easily the equal and better of the P911TT/GT3/GT2 and F360/F430xx - but not only that can even run and gun with the true SUpercars (no one says they can beat them - they can run and gun with them.. ;))

But of course not one of the fanboys/girls/gays/lesbians/hermaphrodites will admit to this. :)

I must agree with RC45, you can't define Supercar by price tag like you did.

Because if you want to go by there, a F40 is not a supercar when compared with McLaren F1 4/5 times more expensive. Or even to Veyron costing 1 million euros net price. Maybe nowadays supercars league should cost at least say what... 1/2 million euros?!!!

And for America's supercar icon you suggest Saleen S7!!! I said ICON, not fastest, nor powerful or something.

It's not a question of priorities or luck.
Because i live in Portugal, a C6 Z06 with taxes would cost more than my house, the same as a medium flat.

However i still think if Chevrolet builded only the Z Vette versions, it would be far considered as a supercar.

Take for example: if Ferrari selled aside the F50 V12 a 350hp V6 version 30% cheaper, do you think the F50 supercar image would be the same? No of course no.

Another better example is the Porsche 911 series. No way a Carrera is a supercar but i don't say the same for the GT2

P cars
I personally dont think p has ever built what I would consider a supercar. They are nice, and exotic, but they arent super cars. Neither is the vette. They are exotics and comparable. In fact neither is the f430.

Oh and on the vette engine and that they have not begun opening up the potential of the engine, what does that tell you about chevrolet....
It tells you that theyve had a variation of that engine now running for 50 years and that the potential of the engine depends on what your willing to spend.
That engine prolly has more man hours or research in it then any other engine (what other engine do you know thats been in use in some performance car for 50 years), and if reputation of previous engines is any measure, should be bullet proof.

If you don't consider that Porsche had never made supercars, you got a very high standard level for the supercar category.

There's no point arguing about supercar terms, no one can define the minimum requirements to be one, I guess supercar category is in some way defined by each person values.

When i sit in a car for a ride, i focus on the street, only sometimes i look to the dash to control the needles. Everything else on the dashboard, all the gadgets doesn't matter, even the music played by the radio (i need only the engine one).
So about the plastics and the poor quality in the Vette, doesn't piss me off, it only needs to be reliable, and it is.

Were those Z06 figures taken on a prepped drag strip, or is that article mistaken? I mean, who cares what that particular car managed on Trackbite?

As for the whole supercar thingy, I' rate the GT1 for one as a supercar. I has such OTT flamboyant styling, ridicolous compromises, maginal usability yet huge desirability it could almost have been italian. But supercar-wise, I wonder why Mosler isn't brought up more often. Those cars are really begnning to shape up nicely :D

Corvettes are Corvettes and are as always fantastic cars when considered on a cost/performence basis. Yet as a complete package, they have glaring weaknesses that for a lot of people make them less desiarable than the competition. Probably largely undeservedly but still. These cars are so expensive here that owners arent willing to put up with the quality issues, the interior build and so on. Sure they are crazy fast but theres mote to owning an exotic that pure speed.

Like here in my hometown (500.000 ppl) there are two C5 Z06'es that are both up for sale now because their ex-Porsche owners are going back to Porsche. Same price, different cars.

LG Headers Installed...

Just for fun, I pulled the air filter out and did a cold pull. What a car.

LG

http://lgmotorsports.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/487rwhp%20C6%20%20Z06.JPG

Hi guys,

All this information is with our LG pro Long Tube system WITH cats.

This Z06 is owned by REDLINE OIL president, Tim Kerrigan. He had the car sent directly to us at LG Motorsports. We appreciate his confidence in us.

I will start with some facts. We installed the headers today with only one minor change to our 3" mid pipes. The C6 necks down to 2.5" but the Z06 has 3" mufflers. This only required a small change in our system to eliminate the 2.5" neck down and continue our 3" pipes to attach to the stock 3" mufflers.

ok Results. First I have to clarify some knowledge that I gained in the last 24 hours. Without being able to tune the PCM, Temperature makes a big difference. I am sure that Temperature also lowered our Base line numbers also. So the 443rwhp would have been higher had we cooled the car down more before we did 2 runs back to back.

Our "After" header install numbers were not up to where we thought they should be so we let the car cool down for about 30 minutes then we did 4 pulls in a row with only 2 minutes seperating each pull.

There is no way that I was going to just pick the best After pull and call it good.

Here is all the information for you to digest. the temp on the 3rd or 4th after pull was about equal to the baseline pull, so use this information wisely.

Also note that once we can get into the computer we will be able to go in and "affect" the changes in timing and other parameters that are pulling the power out.

The air fuel went from a 12.2 on the best run to an 11.7 on the worst run (in the 4 run graph)

The first graph is the base line, with a warm engine) against the cool engine pull with a 30 minute cool down.

The second graph is 4 pulls in a row, 2 minutes apart showing heat build up and the effects of the heat on the power.

Base line/After header install with cool engine
http://lgmotorsports.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/after%20header%20install.JPG

4 pulls in a row below
http://lgmotorsports.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/After%20Header%20Install%2C%20back%20to%20back%20r uns.JPG

You can see that the computer pulls about 16 rwhp out and 13rwtq
by doing 4 pulls back to back within 6 minutes total from starting the first pull.
Tuning will solve this easily.

That I do.. No the carera Gt isnt a super car in my mind.. I dont really feel the 959 is either.
Maybe the gt1 as someone already mentioned.

Supercars in my mind are enzo, f40, mac 1 area... Ultra exclusive, ultra performance, ultra expensive. It is reserved for the absolute top of the top and in my mind is a very small group. The carerra gt and 959 are close but even they fail due to their similarities to the rest of the model line from porsche. A super car is truly unique and needs to be unlike anything else in my mind.
I wonder what a supercar are in your opinion Gray?

Yes it tells you they have used the same engine in different varations for 50 years, that doesnt mean its the best there is...for a very long time people belived the earth was flat....progress are made by doing new things hence the vette aint cutting edge tech and not what I at least consider a supercar thing....
Looking at the tech used in the vette I beg to differ. There are several cutting edge technologies, and theyve historically had alot of innovations be cutting edge..(chasis and frame construction through hydroforming is a good example. So is the use of carbon fiber in a mainstream car. Then of course we have the systems in the zo6 engine. Its not the same hi tech as a dohcs high tech, but its still high tech. ITs still a huge evolutionary leap over any other road ohv.

Gotta love that plateau of Torque, that explains the monstrous acceleration, comparing 0-60 times on cars is a very stupid way to measure their caliber and performance, well to wholly decide on the 0-60 is stupid, like mentioned before the vette cut a few tenths because it hits 60 in 1st gear.

I like the C6 Z... not its coupe profile though... and it is the greatest all round package for the price.

But the price will have to dip below $50K used before I jump on board the C6 Z06 band wagon - so until then, I will slowly ramp the power of my car up to near 500rwhp levels.... because at 3100lb's I know what my basic speed numbers will be - at least as good as the stock C6 Z... ;)

My car already stops, turns and goes a lot better than I can - so the dreaming is just academic at this point ;)

my experiences in a vette are still limited to a C4... which turns predictably; but the go was seriously lacking-better seat bolstering then a C5; and a standard C6; i havent yet sit in a C6 Z.

my experience in a FGT was it goes insane... simply insane;and has plenty of stopping power. i want it sooo bad. i only drove it on Woodward, so no chance to test its lateral grip....

one GT owner drove his white/blue stripe GT up to Michigan from Florida, with no complaints, citing quiet cabin noise for any car... id compare it to a BMW at highway speeds, decent economy (he said he had 21mpg) and compfort.
so, not all GT's are pampered

Sure they aren't - but it is the kind of car that is 3rd or 4th in the stable - not really a daily driver candiate just because of ingress and egress issues with the doors.. ;)

I am not saying it is a bad car - it's just that other than "dream car quality" I really don't lust after the GT...

A 500rwhp Vette will instill the same "insane" feel, and be cheaper to get into and easier to use as an everyday car.
