Damn it, why does everyone think this. PORSCHE IS AN INDEPENDANT COMPANY. I believe that it is the most profitable independant car manufacturer, not totally sure on that second point tho.

i think its more collaboration with VW. otherwise i wouldn't have read an article saying the current CEO who worked his butt off to save porsche from the brink of bankruptcy

well even if VW is just a Collection, VW still supplies money to porsche for funding, and just look at the Cayenne, and Toureg.

just some days ago an "expert" on another forum posted even something like this:
"CEO Wiedeking is Porsche`s ruin" .... :lol: :lol: :lol:
it`s true, there`ve been some tough times, but nothing to worry about it`s been some marketing stuff too when there`d been some rumours that a company ´ll buy Porsche, so yes, Porsche IS 100% independent, citation CEO Wiedeking when asked where he`s seeing Porsche in 2010: “I assume that Porsche`ll still be independent and successful too. I don't answer the rest alone” when Wiedeking became CEO 15 years ago, Porsche was in a bit of a trouble, sales figures were declining and the whole automotive economy had been in a deep crisis. since then Wiedeking was awarded with nearly every award for business matters, and nowadays PAG is the most profitable independant car manufacturer worldwide.
but even now Wiedeking found some potential savings and he launched a economy drive to reduce the piece costs up to 10%.
not only the turnover growth is making BMW, VW, Renault jealous but mainly the yields.
with € 950M profit the gross yield is 17%. just to compare, even Renault, which has always been on top when speaking about a slim economy, can only offer 3-4%

That's called "collaboration".. now, the expert is st-anger but the fact the two SUVs are based on the same platform (afaik it's like that), doesn't mean VW owns Porsche.. and BTW, "just look at the Cayenne and Touareg".. maybe Porsche owns VW :D

Indeed, much companies use the same undercariagge or engines.

And luckily the real Porsches, if I may call them that (it's the cars porsche are famous for), the 911's and the CGT don't share (important) parts from other manufacturars.

ppl can`t imagine the abilities of the Cayenne, but i can tell you wherever there`s the Porsche badge on it IS a real Porsche... :D

Seriously, I've nothing against the fact that Porsche produces the Cayenne. I think it's a good move for the company because with all those profits they can fund other crazy projects like the GT3, CGT, ... But for me when I think about Porsche I think about the 911 and maybe the 917. It's the image I, and I think many people have of a Porsche... An SUV well yeah, it's a Porsche SUV so it probably will be good. But for me it's no reall Porsche... no matter how good it is! It's like that Lamborghini L300 SUV. If I see that thing and I didn't know that it was a real lambo I would laugh at the guy. Who's so foolish to put a lambo badge on such a car :D Common dude, who are you fooling with that...

No, the Nordschleife is a great track to test a car. If you can keep me up in the Toyota Yaris I'll be convinced from the Cayennes qualitis :P Yeah the Yaris isn't that fast, but you haven't seen me behind the wheel (thinking :roll: ) I can throw that baby round any corner ( grand mother style off course :P )

Wasn't the 924 an ill-fated Audi project that Porsche took over?
I think that VW, like Ford and GM; has a corporate foothold in many other smaller companies. VW and Audi have cooperated with Porsche in many other projects.

I thought that the affiliation between Audi/VW and Porsche had to do with Audi and Porsche doing race cars together a decade or two ago, and that their present affiliation with each other is just a continuation of that friendship. Also, I have seen many combined Audi/Porsche dealers around, so that would also explain their friendship 8)

As far as I know, for the RS2 Porsche worked on all the core parts, tuned an Audi engine of course, updated suspensions, and obviously Porsche brakes :) Still more Audi than Porsche :)

Yeh the RS2 was/is a mad beast, my grandpa had one for a while after the last 911 he has, and it was even more impressive. To bad it was not really the right car for him and he got rid of it pretty quickly :(

But I got a question for you "st anger" I got a Audi rs2 and this car is tuned by porsche, do you know how much porsche did to the car?

It was a basic Audi s2 before porsche started.

like TT said, in 1994 Audi contracted Porsche to help them to develop and manufacture the RS2. based on the S2 Avant, Porsche installed a bigger KKK turbocharger (K24) to the 2.2-litre 20 valve 5-cylinder engine with a boost pressure from 1.1 to 1.4 bar, and a revised engine management programme, stiffer camshaft, larger injectors and intercooler, retuned Motronic injection, new exhaust timing and a low-pressure exhaust system increased power to 315hp.
furthermore Porsche supplied 17” Porsche Cup wheels, exterior mirrors, fog lamps, indicators ( all from Porsche 993 911 ), brake system ( from Porsche 968 Clubsport ) front and rear skirt, and a 40mm lowered suspension from Porsche. behind the terrific performance, RS2 did not thrill very much - its big turbo led to violent turbo lag that had all but disappeared in modern cars. under normal driving conditions the ride was unrefined and although handling balance could not be faulted with endless grip and an absence of understeer, the steering did not have the feel of a true performance car.

The thing I always found interesting is that there would be no vw without porsche. Not only did Ferdinan design the bug, but he kept it alive with military versions. Yet curtosy of the German governement VW ended up a seperate company entirely from porsche.
