For those who might think the new Lamborghini Gallardo Spider is a bit too conservative, the Italian automaker took a radical new show car to California's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. But the Concept S is not likely to remain a concept for long, company officials suggested in interviews with TheCarConnection.com. The running prototype shares its platform and 520-hp powertrain with the Gallardo SE, but not much else. The most significant visual details are the inch-high dual windshields and the aluminum structural beam running the length of the passenger compartment. "We will decide by the end of September whether to build a limited series of this car," revealed Stephan Winkelmann, the CEO of the Audi subsidiary. But he hinted that initial response has Lamborghini optimistic about the show car's opportunities. If the Concept S gets the green light, look for no more than 100 to 150 to be built. - Paul A.
