One day at Milan a few years ago I spotted an E46 M3, it was the same we've all seen but at the back it had a very small sticker under the M3 badge that said with the original caligraphy "Motorsport 400hp" i waited some mins for the owner to come, to ask him about it, but he didnt and i had some other things to do.
Does anyone have any info about this car ?

It doesn't take much to get 70 more ponies out of the S54. An intake alone will free up 20-25 alone depending on the intake. Flash the DME and there's about 10 more. Underdrive pulleys will free up another 15. Exhaust will pull out a few more as long as you get a good one.

^^^^^^^^^^^

The BMW engineers said that with the CSL the engine reached its peak... So I quess that 70bhp are waaaay 2 much..

I highly doubt that 360 is the peak output for that engine. Tweak the fuel map a little in the higher registers and you'll be riding another 5 ponies.

BMW leans out the fuel map in the higher RPM. Their igniton map is dead on, but the fuel is weak towards redline.

there will always be ways to free up horses. When natural aspiration ceases, forced induction begins   But you really don't need a supercharger to reach 400hp from the engine

see the only problem is that all that would cost soo much money as soon as you say BMW which sucks on my car we would be talking about $1000 for all that but on an M3 probably closer to $3000 for quality parts

HP is expensive when you're talking about a European car. Some dumbass today had us install a $2,000 DINAN muffler set on his E39 M5.

$2,000 for 6 hp :? For $2,000 RC45 could have gotten about 30 hp out of his Vette.

kelleners sells a 405hp kit for it, it adds some displacement, new cams and stuff. It has been mentioned here before.

It's 333hp stock (343hp in Europe) so another 20% power is not unreasonable with bolt-ons. Bear in mind while it might be a high performance engine it is engineered for reliability and longevity, no doubt there is quite a lot of room for improvement over stock, powerwise.

The M3 GTR had 400bhp(the street version).

I remember when they had that car racing for American Le Mans Series, I think it had the 4.0 liter V8 in there. Because I remember the Porsches bitching about how the M3s had two extra cylinders and it was not fair. So I don't think it is the S54 is the 400hp version.

On another note, keep in mind that reliability becomes an issue when you are talking about production cars.
