Diablo GT or F40 ? what will win these battles ?

Hi,

it's just a few questions not a poll :D
Who would win these battles ?

Diablo GT vs F40 in 0-400m drag ?
Diablo GT vs F40 in 0-1000m drag ?
Diablo GT vs F40 on track (perhaps Nurburgring) ?

If you think you know the answer please post, I'm curious and I want to know what some other maybe greater car experts think about this.

well the Diablo GT did a 8min 4sec lap at the 'Ring - so if you find out what the F40 did you can see whats faster. :wink:

I would bet on the F40 but it would be tight !! The F40 recorded (from several mags) a 0-1000 m in 21.6 s and Autocar recorded the same time for a Diablo GT but with slightly wet track so maybe it could beat the F40 on a drag race. ON a race track I think that the F40 would win as it is much lighter .

Even if the Diablo GT is faster in every aspect.. I would still get the Ferrari F40.. it's just a jaw dropping car to look at..

But really I think the diablo will win on the track with it's modern brakes and I think a much powerful engine than that in the ferrari F40.. but you can't ccount the f40 out because it's simply a ferrari.. :mrgreen:

The F40 is my all time favourite in the hostory of the world - bar none... but it's an icon from the past ;)

Sabina did 9.12 with the Jaguar S Diesel... that not far behind that F40 according to those figures.

its the only turbo car that doesn't sound like a turbo ive seen; you cant even hear the bypass valve at all.

sure it doesnt sound like a v12, but it doesnt sound like a v8 either. i have a hard time myself thinking which of those two i would rather have(F40 vs. F50)

but i would choose the F40 over a Diablo GT, and chances are, that if i had the F40, a Diablo wouldnt be too far away in my mind :twisted:

i think the one of the big differences in lap times could be the different rubber compounds in the old F40, compared with a more modern Diablo GT. how else was the F40 GT still a competitive car in the production class so many years after it was first itnroduced? its definately fast.

Thats what they say, but its not. Much newer car, much better suspension and power delivery. I know I know, I head of cases were it was "slower" but I call bullshit on that, it just cant be, wouldnt make any sense.

Oh hell yea. I seen a lot of track videos with F40s and man they just destroy every single car on the track, the acceleration from them is mad. Plus we've all seen the BM vids were it was champion for many years, and were it beat a Diablo GT :wink:

So that ring time is tottal bullshit. No way it laps as fast as some random beemer.

I'd venture to think that an F40 would be in the much lower 8 min times. I agree with whoever mentioned Clarkson. Let's get him on the phone and set this thing up :D

The Ring time... well... does anybody knows who was the driver? I mean... it's way different if we're talking about a rich-old owner or about the Ring-master Sabine... give one F40 to her and I'm sure she will faster than 8'39, which is really really slow! According to the Evo mag (issue 83, page 16), the new BMW 130i did a 8'35... and the F40 is much faster than this!

Like I (and others said) dani, the 8:39 was set on the 22.5 Km course, only on the second flying lap... The Lambo did its time on the new course, which is about 2 Kms shorter. And yeah, it would be interesting to know who was the driver...

Anyway, I'm positive that on the new course, it would clock somewhere in the mid to high 40's with decent rubber.

The track will either turn right at T13 and left down Hatzenbach, or the old layout that went straight after the Schikane and down past the old pits and then back up to rejoin at Hatzenbach.

The modern version of this "extended" track includes the new GP circuit in this section.

Nope, it was the GT. :wink:


It did a 2:32.9 as best lap (on a 3 lap race), while the F40 did 2:25.2. Though you must add about one second or even a bit more to the F40 time, because it cut the last chicane.

That time is better than the F360 and Porker 911... from recent history - not 20 years ago.

In straight line, the F40 is marginally quicker; on the track, the F40 is going to be much quicker: it's lighter, corners better and stops better. Best Motoring compared the F40 with the Diablo SV (itself a lighweight Diablo, although not as radical as the GT) at the Suzuka circuit and the F40 was incomparably faster - 2:25s vs 2:32s per lap, a 7s difference. I don't believe the Diablo GT can be more than 7 seconds per lap faster than the Diablo SV, so it can never be faster than the F40.

Besides that, in BM videos it has already been proven that the F40 is almost as fast on the track as the F50, and the F50 is much faster than the Murciélago (remember the Murciélago is faster on the track than the Diablo GT).

Case closed, F40 wins!

An F40 is still as quick as a 360 CS at Fiorano. Anywhere it could stretch its legs even a little it would outpace the CS without much trouble.

The CS laps the Nring in under 8 minutes so I'm betteing the F40 could too.
