View Full Version : Test drove some cars today.

I've been givin the chance to have my parents buy me a car up to $60k. So today I decided to drive some cars in that price range/performance range. I drove the Audi S4, Infiniti g35 Coupe 6-speed, and tried driving the M3 and STi. With the M3 and STi the dealers said that you have to put your money down to finally test drive the car. IMHO this is bullshit and makes the people go for their competitors b/c it's easier. Anyone else think this is pretty stupid?

Nice parents you have......
Oh and I'd get the M3 (if its an E46), otherwise get the STi.
It sounds strange about the test drives - can't imagine it being the case here. :?

In 18 $60k for a car? :o My son WILL have a car in his 18 but for $600 max so he will learn to keep it running and take care of it. The rest, if he will want a better car, he will have to make $ for it
For this kind of cars I think they will want a deposit (word?) but for normal cars -> sit and go :)

Thats absolute BS they are making you put a deposit down. They are discriminating against your age. I would call customer services in the first instance and find out what the test drive policy actually is. Then, follow it up with a 'name and shame' letter to customer service and the local newspaper if it was me.
Find another BMW/Subaru dealer and take your dad with you next time - if they still insist on a deposit I'd let your dad negotiate (argue!) with them.
If the deposit is fully refundable then fine, whack it on a credit card. But what if the ergonomics don't suit you? That would be my line of tack anyway...
Which country are you in?

yeah, it's stupid :( But if I was u , I'd try and take a WRX STi if I were you, costs around 30.000 USD , right ? then tune it like another exhaust, air intake, Fuel pump/Fuel injectors, ecu, other rims, fatter tyres and stuff like that since u have another 30.000 dollar to spend ? That's what I do if your parents would allow it :D btw your parents must be rich to give u 60.000 dollar for a car at 18 y/o ? or saved alot :D

This is simple. Me and my friends test drive cars all the time, and im talkin anything from a Subaru Legacy to a 360 modena, and we always get the test drive because we have the right story. For a car like the M3 , either bring your parents in or just go test drive in the pre-owned area.

^^360 Modena??...ummmm........that's a bit hard to believe *EDIT*+ what ARMAN said
I know some places they want you to put down a visa card # ... so that they can charge you for any damage. I haven't encounter a test drive where I have to put down actual money.
As for the car choice....is 60k enough for the RS4??

i hope the further test drives are able to happen, sounds like your dad's buisness is doing quite well again; good luck

well you could....................
on second thought, bring your dad with you, so they'll se you're serious.
Putting a deposit down for a testdrive is stupid. I have never seen anything like it.
Fuck'em, find another dealer and buy that M3. Get in the car, go back and visit the first dealer. 8)
But if you have that much money at your disposal, well, the C6 Z06 isn't far away.
My choice would be the M3, or the STI. Both in black.
Good luck!
Oh, and when you do and if you do get the car, we're waiting for the pics 8)

hmmm, if your going by yourself the deposit idea makes quite sense.
from all of those i would get the M3 by far, is the nicest car of the bunch... buuut if you really want the M3 i would wait for the new one, one year isnt that much, i would get a cheap $500 car, for the moment, and save some money if your parents are strictly sticking to the $60 K mark, for if the new one's price tag is above the 60 grand...
another option is the Z06, but i still prefer the M3

I'm not trying to brag about my testdrives, I actually could give a shit less whether or not anyone beleives that I've even test driven a car. I was only trying to make a point. I can't beleive you'd actually say that, what a loser.
As for the M3, I'm not sure if buying a $60K M3 is really worth it, seeing as how a new model is coming out. And as for the Z06, thats a weekend toy, not a everyday driver. I have several friends that got "weekend toys" as everyday drivers and now regret it. If you want a fast car that will show you a good time, I'd go with a Evo or a WRX, then buy a base 3 series or A4 for a everyday driver. Personally, I'd buy the new RS4 with that kind of money, but you have to wait for that.

Sorry... ARMAN. I just hate it how a lot of people in this forum are always trying to "call others out".
I was just about to update my post to say: Dont forget about the MB C55 and SLK55.

i think id go for the M3 or try to find a lightly used M39 M5. but you might want to wait it out until the new M3 comes out as it will have a V8 i think.

2004 C32 AMG...Drove one two days ago. Great daily driver and great power. Stock is 349 hp. You can also get a Kleeman intake/pully/chip package that will put you over 400hp for about $2,500. A car worth considering IMO.
Oh, the Subaru dealers around here are the same with their STi cars. They won't let you drive one unless you've already signed something. It's total bullshit.
The BMW dealer down the road will let you drive anything you want though. I've been there several times, they've been great.

You're defeating the whole point of the "forum" thing though. One of the reasons we all love to hear your opinion is to spark conversation (arguements). Thats the whole point. RC has it down to a science (pissing people off)

With regard to test driving an F360 as a stranger to the local Ferrari dealer I too say pics or STFU ;)
The M3 is easily a daily driver - as is the Z06 (I have 64,000 daily driving miles on mine) - the guys is 18 and getting a $60,000 gift from his parents - obviously he has no need to "skimp" to be practical.
Buy the car you want - and then sell if or a "sensible" car later - although I have no doubt daddy will just buy you another one if you really needed it :)

^^ hahah..
how bout a 97 RAV4 with a nice dimple on the left side for 50k?
if you're only considering the cars that you have mentioned, i'd say M3 all the way..
but i would definately drive a Z06 any day of the week, with out any complaining or problems... well maybe the fact that i'd loose my license within the first week..
