Here's a gallery of XP4 from the past weekend exotic car meet at Crystal Cove; held every Saturday morning in Southern California. I wish I could add my own pictures, but I missed it, I didn't realize the Mclaren was going to show up!!! The gallery is owned by Peloton25, but the pictures are from various posters from many different websites.

Whats the difference with an XP4?

the XP4 is a prototype, although it was basically the final car. the XP means (i believe) experimental prototype or something like that. XP1 to 3 were earlier versions, XP4 is like the "normal" production cars. XP5 was a standard car that was used for the record run to 241mph.

This car (XP4) has certainly changed since I last saw it at Silverstone in 1993:

Nice pictures, thanks. I saw my first Carrera GT in July, it drove by me before a redlight...it was nice.

I need to see a mclaren though.

weren't xp1 and 2 just basically ultima GTRs? I remember seeing something about those prototypes on some video but i cant remember exactly.

I was pretty sure that the Ultima GTR wasn't affiliated with the Mclaren in its development, but I don't know for certain. What I do know was that there is a guy who used an Ultima GTR as a base for the closest thing to a Mclaren as he could afford and took an 850 engine and dropped it in.

"“At roughly $90,000 per copy, minus engine, the Ultima GTR is a pricey ride, but its only about a tenth the cost of a McLaren F1 GT coupe. And remember, the GTR was the chassis the McLaren group used to prove the components for the F1. There isn’t a much better endorsement than that.”

no the McLaren F1 was always built as a totally new car...but Ultima GTR's were indeed used for component testing, and Lee Noble, who also designed the Ultima GTR, was involved in the F1's chassis development (and now he builds his own cars ofcourse)
