What an awesome trip it was for me – the memories will last a lifetime.

There is too much that happened to write about, so I will just mention some of the highlights for me (if you want to know more, just ask).

1. My chance to drive the CS – mindblowing!! I thought the owner was joking but was amazed when he tossed me the keys on Sunday morning. I drove the thing for about 100km to the Olgas and back, with my top speed a paltry 170kmh (in a 110 zone though :P ). I don't have any pics of the drive, but some video which I will treasure forever. :D

I sure got some funny looks getting into and out of the car, but it was a great feeling driving such a sexy car around. The acceleration was phenominal, though I didn’t get to test the handling much as I mainly drove on straight roads.

2. Overtaking a cop car at 220kmh in the GT2…..and they couldn’t do a thing about it. :P

3. Me and one of the other passengers waiting outside our relatively cheap hotel in the morning anh having 8 exotics roll up in convoy to pick us up.

4. The insane speeds that we managed to achieve, and all with nothing to worry about. (although we did manage 289kmh in a 110 zone at one stage  ) The GT2 was the ‘winner’ with a top run of 332kph, then the CS with 308kph, Murci 300kph, Gallardo at 298kph and then the rest in the 280-290kph range.

5. The mini drag races that took place near the Cannonball Run memorial – nice stretch of road to compare acceleration. We had the GT2 and Murcielago facing off, CS v F360, CS v Monaro, Monaro v Boxster…..all captured on video of course. :D

6. Driving along at about 120kmh and having 4 cows run across the road infront of us. I was in the CS at the time and we had to slam on the brakes to miss them - at least they worked! :D The Monaro in front of us had to swerve to avoid them......got the heart racing. :D

Time for the pics, we didn’t stop for probably half as many photo opportunities as we could have – but still came up with some nice ones I think. Also not morning or evening footage as we simply didn't find time, but thats something for next year I suppose.

How fitting are these plates?

Just a couple of speedo shots taken by others.....the first is about 300kph in the Murci, then the 330kph in the GT2 and 308kph in the CS

Then straight for the unlimited roads - I started in the Murcielago and have to admit the acceleration was scary at first.

SATURDAY

At the petrol station in the morning, we were quite an attraction for the locals. :D The attendant there actually gave us 4c off per litre of petrol since he was so excited. :P

At a scenic Gorge, it was full of tourists (Germans) so hard to get shots without them getting in the way. :x

MONDAY

What a thrill this was - overtaking a huge road train in the CS! We were in an 80 zone, but got well over that (280 on the speedo at this stage). :D

http://img362.exs.cx/img362/5043/alicesprings20054175la.th.jpg (http://img362.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img362&image=alicesprings20054175la.jpg) http://img362.exs.cx/img362/8059/alicesprings20054191cg.th.jpg (http://img362.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img362&image=alicesprings20054191cg.jpg)

Then a side-by-side race with the Murci at around 270kph....unbelievable! We kept up for a bit but then the big V12 just pulled away from us....

http://img362.exs.cx/img362/4161/alicesprings20054226mm.th.jpg (http://img362.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img362&image=alicesprings20054226mm.jpg) http://img362.exs.cx/img362/9526/alicesprings20054245pi.th.jpg (http://img362.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img362&image=alicesprings20054245pi.jpg) http://img362.exs.cx/img362/8679/alicesprings20054276aw.th.jpg (http://img362.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img362&image=alicesprings20054276aw.jpg)

Some more moving shots.....I put my head on the line for the pics out the window. :D I really like the shot looking over the GT2's big ass at the Gallardo following it...

http://img362.exs.cx/img362/2674/alicesprings20054310gf.th.jpg (http://img362.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img362&image=alicesprings20054310gf.jpg) http://img362.exs.cx/img362/5708/alicesprings20054320fo.th.jpg (http://img362.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img362&image=alicesprings20054320fo.jpg) http://img362.exs.cx/img362/2462/alicesprings20054334uv.th.jpg (http://img362.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img362&image=alicesprings20054334uv.jpg) http://img362.exs.cx/img362/3762/alicesprings20054358eu.th.jpg (http://img362.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img362&image=alicesprings20054358eu.jpg)

We then headed to Glen Helen and hired a helicopter, so we could get video and photos from the air as the cars raced down the highway. :D It was absolutely brilliant up there and watching those cars fly down below. The thing is that MOTOR were not present for this and have said they may use some of my pics from that flight in the magazine. Therefore I will not post them yet just incase, don't want to piss them off.

Yes, plenty of video (incar at high speed, the drag races, drive-by's, 0-200kmh sprints, from the helicopter, mounted on the 360 with others overtaking....). However there is plans to make a DVD of all the footage so for now I can't 'release' it on the net (plus the fact my tapes are in Adelaide atm).

Is there any reason the Murcie owner only took it too 300km'h? (well he isnt doing his plates justice)

Wow my friend took me for a run in his 360 Spider afew weeks back and never gave me the keys!!!! hahaha u are very lucky :D

Damn it the Monaro missed the cows :P

Did anyone have issues with fuel, running low etc or someone brought along spare? Or the petrol stations spaced out well?

Haha......"only" 300kmh is a bit ironic. :P He may of got a bit higher but I can't recall it, he does have 316kmh as his max speed on the speedo readout (from another time).

Wow my friend took me for a run in his 360 Spider afew weeks back and never gave me the keys!!!! hahaha u are very lucky :D

I know!!! I am still pinching myself that I actually drove a Challenge Stradale - a car of which only 13 exist in all of Australia!

Did anyone have issues with fuel, running low etc or someone brought along spare? Or the petrol stations spaced out well?

Not really, a couple of fairly close calls in the 360 Spider and GT2 but no major dramas. THe stations are pretty well spaced, and we usually planned ahead (although 98 premium wasn't available all of the time).

That is just insane!!!

And imagine, if let's say a year ago somebody would tell you what you would be doing in the early days of august.........you would never belived them.

I'm really glad everything turned out so good.

The 360CS expirience......OMFG!!! Crazy!!!

I'll look at the pics tonight or tomorrow, because this page has been opening itself for about 5 minutes and it still says 180 items remaining!

I just CAN'T wait to see them all.

Thankyou all for the compliments... :D

I tried uploading the RAR file again last night, and it failed for some reason. :( What am I doing wrong (they are 46MB and 37MB .rar files). :?

How did the Porsche GT2 sound? ;)

Well compared to the Lambo's and Ferrari's I don't think it was anything special, not 'sharp' or brutal enough for my liking. However the push in the back it gives you above about 4000rpm is probably unmatchable by most cars on the planet.

I already got a PM from somebody else asking the same thing - and the answer was yes. As long as the pics stay original (i.e. not edited in anyway) then there is no problem with it.....

Yes I am definately a Porsche fan, although they still sit behind Ferrari's and Lambo's in terms of desirability for me. There are apparently only 30 GT2's in Australia so I had to take the opportunity to snap some pics of it. :D

They told us to expect it to feature (8-10 pages) in a couple of months - the Sept. issue just came out so maybe we will be in the November issue.

And how about you tell us in detail about your 360CS drive? We want to know everything about it ;) Tell us all about the thrills and spills of that car;) How did it feel? Did you hate the flappy paddle automated manual tranny?

And how about you tell us in detail about your 360CS drive? We want to know everything about it ;) Tell us all about the thrills and spills of that car;) How did it feel? Did you hate the flappy paddle automated manual tranny?

Sure (any excuse to talk about it :P )! :D

I actually quite liked the 'flappy paddle' gearbox - its probably more a novelty thing and feeling like a race driver but it felt good. I obviously didn't do any high-speed 'track-like' driving so I didn't test it properly, but for the duration of my drive I had no complaints about it. Also, I have nothing to compare it against, as the only other paddle-shift I've driven was an MR2 Spyder about 4yrs ago...

The acceleration was stunning, at one stage I was sitting on 120kph (in 6th gear) and the owner said drop it a couple and boot it - so down to 4th I went and thats when I got it to my max of 170kph. It got there so effortlessly and quickly - and the sound it makes while doing it is just intoxicating!

While just cruising at 110 in 6th the car is actually suprisingly quiet, and could easily be done for very long distances. However if you get the revs up to the point where the bypass valves open then you'll get a headache pretty soon.......but man is it nice! :o

I also learnt about how to start and reverse the car - something I wasn't exactly sure about before driving it. Also I realised that once started and sitting in 1st gear the car will not roll forward when you take the foot of the brake - you actually need to depress the accelerater to get moving.

The brakes didn't get a workout from me, so not much to say on them. :)

I didn't find the seats all that comfortable, but would be something I could live with.....if I ever get one of my own. :P

Hope all that made sense, I start to waffle when I bring back the memories.....any other questions then just ask away.

Haha, definately not! (the drive would have ended very quickly) It would have been nice to test out the LC though - but the owner wasn't 100% sure of how to do it.... :(

The journalist from MOTOR (the one doing burnouts in the Monaro) regularly asked the supercar owners if he could do a burnout in their cars - but was turned down everytime. :P

More proof that sometimes motojournos lose touch with the reality of what they do - and doing burnouts and drifting fot pictures to sell magazines takes priority over reviewing the car in quesiton ;)

Besides which - they obviously abuse anything they get their hands on.

As I said in the first post on the Monday we hired a helicopter - so me and one of the other passengers went up to get some footage as the guys drove past down below.

I was taking care of the photos, while the other guy took video (which looks absolutely great!)

Since I was sitting in the middle seat of the chopper it was difficult to get clean shots past the chopper windscreen and/or people.....but still got a few good ones. :D

The road - as you can see very empty:

i noticed that you wrote the nsx had a little crash (on the Friday), what happend exactly? nothing too serious i hope....

from the damage it doesn't look too serious but it sure sounded scary! They were doing about 200kmh on the way to Alice Springs (they drove from Adelaide) when a Landcruiser coming the other way moved into their lane . So they had to go off-road to avoid it and thats when they got airborne over that drain you can see in the photo.....luckily they landed on flat ground and not into a tree. :|

There was damage to the front bumper and the steering wheel was at an angle even when driving in a straight line  - but it was looked over by someone and he continued driving. :D

Oh and it turned out that both people in the Landcruiser were asleep at the time of the accident......idiots! :x

Fantastic camera work mate; you really did make the most of your time there!
Glad the NSX was not too badly damaged, they can be very difficult to repair in the event of major structural damage.

For me when I drove in the NT the open speed limits made me concentrate more in the wide open straight roads than doing 110km/h.
Sadly this is not the case for alot of people and this is quite a common occurence up there; add the cavalier attitude to drinking and there is bound to be trouble.

What did you think of the scenery and Alice Springs itself? Helicopter is the best way to see everything for sure and great for car pics as well! :D

Was the MOTOR journo Martin Donnon the same guy who writes for High performance imports and Zoom magazines? He would be an interesting person to talk to IMO about all types of cars.

Congratulations on a job well done!

BTW dingo, are there already some plans for future events? ;)

Yes, everybody who attended said they would love to do it again next year (if not earlier :P ). A few of them will have F430's by then so it will be different cars attending, plus the article in MOTOR should get alot of attention from owners around the country.

The guy who lives in Alice Springs (with the Murcie) has already asked us to come back - he's lonely. :P

why did nobody tell me of this topic :P I didn't expect pics to be up already! :D infact for some weird reason i can't get all the pics to load up yet but hell what an experience it must have been. Some stunning pics!! :D I bet you could make an awesome dvd using the footage, especially from the helicopter!! .... bit of competition for supercarshowdown :D Sure there would be some customers here :D

Have you tried downloading the .RAR files instead of waiting for the thumbnails to load?

FRIDAY: http://www.sendmefile.com/00044785

SUNDAY: http://www.sendmefile.com/00044816
MONDAY: http://www.sendmefile.com/00044838

I have got 2 DVD's back already, and another 4-5 should arrive today from Adelaide with all our footage on it - so there is plenty of stuff to use. :D
Its just a matter of editing it all - luckily thats not up to me!

I'm still not 100% sure if we will end up selling the DVD or not - guess it depends on interest from 'customers'. It would obviously be nice if I could share it with you guys for free......we'll see. :)

For me when I drove in the NT the open speed limits made me concentrate more in the wide open straight roads than doing 110km/h.
Sadly this is not the case for alot of people and this is quite a common occurence up there; add the cavalier attitude to drinking and there is bound to be trouble.

I agree with you on that. Even as a passenger you are absolutely exhausted at the end of the day, just from having to concentrate on the the road and also whats beside the road. The time we were trying to max out the GT2 (I was in the passenger seat), everything that looked anything like an animal or person etc needed studying, and if we were unsure what it was we backed out.

What did you think of the scenery and Alice Springs itself? Helicopter is the best way to see everything for sure and great for car pics as well! :D
The most common response (other then OMG) to my photos is that the cars look so out of place in the scenery but look unbelievable. It was unreal to see the cars in that setting. As for Alice Springs, I know I probably wouldn't return without being there to visit the Murcie owner there or to give some exotics a run. As dingo may have said him and I were there an extra night then the others and got so bored we went and saw a movie. That's how little there is to do in Alice.

what kind of business must you be running in the alice to afford a murci?

and how hard would it be if you want pros to service the car?

haha....at least it was a decent movie and the place looked halfway modern.

what kind of business must you be running in the alice to afford a murci?

Computer-related business - its not hard to make money out there since you don't have much (or any) competition.

He flys in a Lambo mechanic from Melb. to do the servicing.

I got there in the end but thanks! turned out it was my bro hogging the connection :P As for the DVD well obviously posting etc may be a problem for non aussy members so maybe they would consider an arrangment simlar to fastrack for jabbas dvd. Guess piracy is a concern cos you can bet some leeching arseholes like finaltools will create a torrent whatever you do  Anyway once its done maybe run a poll, i'd certainly give you some of my beer money to see the footage :D

**EDIT**

Just watched that video and fantastic, somehow i was expecting all straight roads, but actually very familiar to the roads around here for that bit, winding and undulating..... surface actually looked alot better though  Fantastic footage IMO :D :D

There should be plenty of footage for a nice DVD - all up we got about 6hrs worth I think from 4 different cameras. The drag races we had will be the highlight IMO, and obviously the chopper stuff. :D

I've sent the guy in charge of the DVD an email to see what his plans are, and also passed on your (AL123) suggestions.

.....but actually very familiar to the roads around here for that bit, winding and undulating..... surface actually looked alot better though  Fantastic footage IMO :D :D

the only difference is that on your roads you could only do 250kmh+ for about 5mins before ending up in jail. :P
