Question abt carry on luggage

my friend is in japan right now, typically like any other tourist, he's bought more than he should be allowed on the plane. he wants to take the shocks/coilovers as carry on luggage but doesn't know if security will consider it weapons.

i was wondering has anyone took these items or similar on board? or know that from experience that its not allowed?

your friend can't put the coilovers in his luggage?
a friend who works at an airport told me that almost anything that's metal, heavy and could be used in the most ridiculous ways as a weapon, will almost not pass trough security.

maybe if he keeps them inside a sealed box he could pass with them

Tell him to check the coilovers. there is no point in carrying those on.

he said he'll try calling. not everyone is dumb as you think. you gotta remember he is in a country that he doesn't speak. just using every way to get information. can't believe thats not even allowed.

he wants to take the heaviest stuff on board, thats the reason.

sure it was a no-brainer. But you don't have in mind that every security guard has different opinions.
a friend once bought a gillete razor on his way to the airport, putted inside his briefcase and passed trough security.
a second time, bought the same razor, went to the airport, but now he could not take on board the razor with him.
and this was on the same month, one year ago.
how could a gillete shaving razor could be present more danger than a pen? :?

I remember a kid who couldn't take his GI Joe puppet into the plane bacause it was a potential danger according to the US authorities.

However, if there's so much trouble, couldn't he just send those coilovers in a package by mail or something. How expensive is that?
