check this out guys:
Maserati-Lamborghini is a Formula One (F1) team hoping to compete in the 2007 World Championship. Formula One.
The Maserati car will be equipped with a V8 Lamborghini engine. The Maserati team will get technical assistance from Scuderia Ferrari. Rumors say that Maserati will hire drivers Fernando Alonso and Juan Pablo Montoya for 2007. The team's full name is possibly X-Elite Maserati-Lamborghini F1. The team hopes to compete in 2007, but stay anonymous until 2005.
The team's technical directors are Rick Chen and Matt Letourneau. They are both unknown and new engineers, but Maserati team principal John Lord believes they are excellent and reliable. After years of absence in F1, Maserati and Lamborghini are now working hard together to design their brand new ML-700 to strike again in the Formula One world.

I hardly doubt that this team (if they will ever see daylight) have ties with both JP and ALonso. Rumours I say :!:

Doesnt make sense to me. Maserati is basicly Ferrari, why would Ferrari start another team with a some what competitor in their road car business Lamborghini, plus how can they get Alonso and JP for 2007? Thats 2 years from now...
Sounds like BS.

Exactly...But we have forgotten 1 crucial thing...
VW has been very interested in the Maserati brand lately....It was on Car magazine a while back....If VW does acquire maserati, then the chances of that happening become very big, because they don't have an actual team on F1, will have the right names to enter it, and the budget too....

Maserati?? Isn't that part of Fiat group?? I call BS.
I do want to see Audi in F1 tho
Well Ferrari are said to be selling Masarati, which could give it some truth but I doubt that theyll get Alonso and JPM in there first season. It will definetly liven things up witch is always good.
(Now we just need Lotus back :D )

The engine would be from Lamborghini :? I guess they are not the best at building engine, at least for the street: 500 bhp from a 5.0l turbo engine is not that impressive, when some have 100bhp by liter of a non-turbo engine.
BTW what is the point of buying Maserati, is it just for the name? It is built by Ferrari now, and if you take them away from Ferrari, what do you have left?

I don't see why Fiat wants to sell Maserati while the Quattroporte is a success and Maserati is finally on the right track after years of misery....

^^They need loads of money, and I am not sure that Maserati is earning money yet.

If you're referring to the Gallardo's V10, then the 5.0L in that car makes 493bhp and it's naturally aspirated, no turbos, no superchargers. That's pretty close to the 100bhp/L mark and the new SE (or SV, whichever it is) version should top that easily.

every part of this rumor sounds bogus, why maserati and lamborghini together, non-have recent experience in the sport or current technical know how to build an F1 car and engine; both have either ancient or distant heritage in the sport, although that of lamborghini is rather minimal, both are currently owned by two different car conglomerates, the drivers are from different team and will most likely be retained by their respective teams, as they are performing quite well, and 2007 is not that far off; not much time to get a brand new F1 team off ground and start racing ... there are so many impossible hurdles here, it many not be a rumor, but it just seems so unlikely ...

I suspect that the info can from the Lamborghini press database  So that aspect I doubt is bogus. Whether or not it will actually happen is a different story.

Yep - I don't know if I have ever seen the words Lamborghini and Forced Induction used in the same sentence in regard to street cars. Quite some error for a car enthusiast to make ;) :P

Well...I have seen turboed and/or supercharged Lamborghinis, but none of them came that way from the factory.

Yep - F/I V12's (& V10's) are normally reserved for the "what do you mean money can't buy me power?" crowd.. :P

Maybe it never made it to the production line, but I am sure you can count this as another turbocharged Lamborghini:

i would love for Lambo to make it to F1, what a battle it would be and a day for the marketing team at Lambo, but of course they would have to be competitive and that would take a few years if not more.
bring it on, Ferrari welcomes the challenge.
been there, done that...
and they sucked.
with lola in 1989, and lotus in 1990, they didn't get more then 4 points in the two years

Hey, check out the first line of the page you have linked.
I thought that Lamborghini was good at producing engines. They are quite successfull in the offshore racinglegue.
It would be cool to have Lamborghini in the F1, but it's hard for me to believe that they will.
As long as they keep producing their great street cars I'm happy.

No it wasn't from Lamborghini. I think it was a dealership mod when people wanted more power or something out of their lambo.
