Latest VLN-races @ the Nürburgring

Here are a few impressions of the latest VLN-race at the Nordschleife. I try to find new hot spots to take photos from, most of the press photographers use to take the same old places over and over again, can start getting boring.

The yellow Manthey Porsche (nr 111) won the race, the bad to the bone 700 BHP+ black Uwe Alzen Porsche had to give up due to collision damage.

btw: he owns at least 3 vipers!
i know about a silver gts, a silver srt/10 with ugly hardtop and this gts-r

HEHE :lol: I'm already shaking mate 8) Thanks for the info, I will pay extra attention next time. If my new lens arrives next week I will visit the nordschleife the following weekend. So, in case I have to shake him off I need my passat being chipped as well :lol: :wink:

Your car actions shots are always so beautiful. Thanks for sharing them. Maybe I've asked it before, but what kind of lens do you use for these pics? I'm actually looking for a telezoom lens myself (though not in the upper price class :D) for my D70.

And is the Karussel easy to reach for taking pics?

First of all thanks for your comment mate.
My camera is a D70 as well, all these pictures are made with the crappy 70-300mm f/4-f/5.6 zoomlens. It is the zoomlens that came with the kit. The picture of the viper GTSr is made with the 18-70mm DX lens, consider it as the standard lens that comes with it, and that is quite a good lens.
If you ask me what lens to use then I would go for the 70-200mm VR G f/2.8 lens, it is a zoomlens with a vibration reduction system on it and you don't have any light loss when you start zooming with it. It isn't that cheap, it will set you back something like 1600€. But don't purchase it here in belgium, I ordered my in Holland www.cornevaniperen.nl If you want to go for a cheaper glasswork then go for the Nikkor 80-200mm F/2.8 or the 70-200mm f/2.8 zoomlens of sigma. The big advantage you get from the first one (70-200mm VR G f/2.8) is that you can use some teleconverters on it and you are able for still making razor sharp pictures thanks to its VR system. And don't forget when you buy a new lens, you probably buy it for a few decades so try to get the maximum out of it !!! A 70-200mm zoomlens is a good standard zoomlens that will cover most situations (most shooting distances) very well (moooore than enough when it comes to shooting those race cars in the Karrousel). And if you really need to shoot further go for the teleconverters which are great !!!

A 70-200mm zoomlens is prefect to do the job.

Yeah I have seen that on the official Nürburgrings' calender and normally when I have my new lens I will be there to testshoot it :) So, normally I will be hanging around there too. And if I see that Viper GTSr again I will snap him again, just for the fun of it :P

Thanks for the info, mate! Lenses are idd something you buy for the next decades, but there aren't really cheap. That's why I don't want to buy it in a haste.

Your pics look really knowing they were taken with the 70-300 f/4-f/5.6 kit lens!!! I've the 18-70 DX kit lens myself, which is price/quality wise hard to beat.

What new lens did you purchase? Is it the really big one in your avatar? :P

I'll be there the 14th with some friends. Though I think we will stay at the NS all day. But if there is a lot of good stuff to see at the GP Strecke, a short visit to it won't do any harm :D

ok, The lens that I ordered is the 70-200mm f/2.8 G VR. Let me try to explain it in a nutshell;
1)The figure "f/2.8" means that it just doesn't matter on which focal length your are shooting, the lens always "collects" the same amount of light (maximum), a regular lens does do that.

2) "G" stands for; that these lenses are optimized for Nikon's D-series.

3) "VR" stands for; Vibration Reduction system which works great.

So, buying this lens is always a good deal because you can make a 400 mm lens of it when you purchase the 2.0 teleconverter and then having a VR-system is a HUGE advantage, but yeah the cost price is as usual the biggest downside. Anyway, don't order it in Belgium, order in Holland or if you have relatives living in the U.S. or Canada talk to them then :D It costs you half the price then, the perfect thing would be if you or anyone you know is into visiting these countries so that he or she can bring one with him/her. The shitty thing is that since September 11 lots of things have changed when it comes to shipping something from one continent to the other, especially the U.S.

Ok, this has become a big nutshell then :) But yea, to hell with it :twisted:

I will see what the following weekend brings me, I'm just hoping that the Nordschleife is going to be worth the visit so that I don't have to go to the Sudschleife (grand prix circuit).

BTW; the lens shown in my avator is a bazooka :) The price of that baby is probably somewhere between the 12.500 and 20.000 € and no, these figures are no typing errors. I have seen two of those lenses thus far, the first time during the 24-hours of the Nurburgring (this year) and the second time during the Renault World series at Zolder. If you go to official events you will see this sort of glasswork regularly, note the photographers near the tennis courts and soccer fields ........... I'm sooo into the wrong profession

:D LoL :D Yea, you are right about that lens. Just put yourself on the tower of the Nürburgring castle and you can shoot those cars where you want without moving yourself around, sounds nice :lol: A big glasswork in front of you mounted on a tri-pod a nice comfy chair behind it at the left of you a small bbq and at your right some perfectly cooled drinks 8) what do you need more ... ok, forgot the nice girl for a sec ... sorry for that :P

BTW: If you have any more questions, feel free to ask, if I know something about it I will tell you. But I'm absolutely no "mister know it all"
