"Him" was a technician who took the car out for a Pre-Delivery Inspection...
I can't imagine how pissed the owner must be. :|

Do you think porsche will replace it with a new one? They, better because no-one wants to pay 300k for a "crashed" car. Even if they replace all the damaged parts i still dont want that car (if I'm the one who's paying for it of course).

they wouldn't even disclose that it was damaged. As long as it is in the dealer's possesion, they don't have to disclose anything. They'd sell it as if it was new.

Not quite true - to knowingly sell a damaged/abused vehicle s new would be undefendable in court.
BTW - (no refleciton on the tech here at JW ;)) but it is a fact that all these muthafuckers abuse hipo cars brought in when ever they get a chance.
I even busted the dealer who was servicing my car - and they simply ignored/denied anything happened.
I took pix of the cars when I dropped it off.. when we went to pick it up, they hadn't even bothered to clean the rubber on the rear fender panels from the burnouts they did.
Oh well - if it was "the" tech it shows even Porsche has zero pride in service. ;)
BTW - why the hell would the car need to be driven as part of the predelivery inspection anyway?

Because if something got left loose during assembley, or the alignment wasn't set up properly, its better it comes out for the tech on the test drive than the customer after delivery.
I had a steering angle sensor on an X3 take a vacation on the PDI test drive when i first started working at the dealer. without the Steering angle sensor, you lose your stability control, and your abs  Had that happened to the customer, who knows what would have happened.
3 weeks before i graduated BMW there were about 200 Z4's that got shipped with suspected loose lugnuts due to a mis-calibration at the factory. The Vehicle Distribution Center checked the torgue before they shipped to the dealers, but we still have to check them when they get in.

Hhmm. I have to disagree 1000000000%.
Every one I know that has taken delivery of an ordered new vehicle has been at the dealer to take delivery ofthe car - and each has given strict instruction for the dealer to do nothing excpet check the fluids and put in gas.
They are the first to drive the car.
There is ZERO need for QA by a dealer and for them to "preprep and test" a new car.

Too fucking bad - again, the dealer has NO NEED to drive the new car. :)

Bull - no need. I can tell you of a cople folks that have turned down new car deals and gone to other dealers because they didn't honour "don't drive" requests.
:)
You just want to beat the shit ouf the new car :)

what the fuck ever asshole. It's a fucking requirement on the pdi checklist. I hope the next Z06 you but has a fucked up synchro and locks up the trans when it comes apart :fist: and all because the dealer didn't do a final QC check when the car was delivered.
Yak all you want in the political forum RC, but do NOT tell me what is needed and not needed to do my job :fist:

I agree they need predelivery inspection... on a mass produced cars. But on a handbuilt CGT? a loose nut, misaligned wheels, improper fitted panels? what the hell am i paying 300k for? I disagree, a predelivery test on cars like this are not supposed to be allowed.

Handbuilt has more room for error than robot built.
Robots are programed and calibrated to hit every nut and bolt in a sequence and torque it accordingly. They are constantly calibrated.
Handbuilt using hand tools provides the chance that a bolt gets over looked, a torque wrench gets knocked out of calibration etc.
How dangerous do you think it would be if a wheel bearing got misaligned failed on the freeway as the customer was starting to enjoy his well spent 300K? Talk about damaging a comapny's reputation.
I'm not saying the tech was justified in hauling ass and acting like a retard, and i'm not saying the car needs to be taken on a road trip. But it does need to be checked out throughly prior to delivery. I wouldn't want to buy an F430 and find out a shock mount wasn't installed correctly and have it fail on me 5 miles down the road. That's something that should have been caught prior to me taking delivery of the car.
I'm sure that you would be livid if something like that happened to you.
I don't give a flying fuck if you like the idea that the dealership is making sure your car is perfect or not. I don't care if you think it is an unnecassary step. I don't care what manufacturer i work for, i will continue taking new cars for a PDI road test around the block. Don't like it? stop driving :fist:

wow this is gonna get ugly...
yet i agree with ZfrkS62
whatever the tech could do to the car in the test drive i would probably do too so if something fails its his fault, so i agree a test drive is the safest way to go...
and it doesnt hurt ur car so i dont know why it would b a bad thing
ZfrkS62
07-29-2005, 12:09 AM
oscar- in the case at hand, it did hurt the car, but that was purely the techs fault.
in reality, pdi drives are done in low traffic areas and the freeway is avoided. what this dumbass was doing i don't know. It would be nice to get some more info on it but i'm not sure if the poster will be back anytime soon

RC, you have got to be kidding me if you think they would drive your car and tell you. they can roll back the miles all they want and you wouldnt know a damn thing.
wether they have to do this or not i dont know, but they can driver it all they want and you will think it has 0 miles.
It's actually impossible to roll back odometers on newer cars. I'm not sure about other manufacturers, but BMW stores the mileage in 3 different control modules. if you try replacing the cluster, a red dot comes on next to the mileage to indicate that it is not the correct mileage until the cluster is coded and the mileage is copied from the other 2 control units. Should the mileage in the other units differ, the higher of the two will be displayed.

That tech is a bad person. This is why I don't let techs or valets touch my car. It's even worse because it's a cheap car so they're much less afraid to ruin it.
I'm just glad the guy got a new, pristine one. I'll bet that the firing is the last thing that tech has to worry about, I'm sure the dealer picked up the tab...

I do not understand why dealer needs to test drive new Carrera GT. Cars like this should be tested after leaving factory and not at dealers. I know, that some manufacturers are doing that. And test driving at 145 mph on public road? If those drivers really, really feel the need to test performance of cars like this, they should learn to drive first.
