Well its time to spill the beans (since I have hinted at it before), but on August 4th I will be flying to Alice Springs (see the map) for 6 days of pure heaven.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/dingo23/GA4073.jpg

I will be meeting up there with a bunch of exotic car owners and a couple of other enthusiasts. My main role on the trip will be photographer – something I am more than happy to do!

The participants that are confirmed:

· Lamborghini Murcielago
· Lamborghini Gallardo
· Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
· Ferrari 360 Spider
· Ferrari 550 Maranello
· Porsche 996 GT2
· Porsche 996 Turbo
· Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG (maybe)
· Lotus Esprit S4
· Honda NSX
· Porsche Boxster
· Subaru WRX
· Nissan 350Z

There were a couple of other cars considering coming, but for various reasons will not make the trip. (ie. Testarossa, 328, Diablo, TVR, Miura ( ), GT40…..)

I have taken the seat in the 550 to start with, but over the 6 days I will swap around and hopefully get to experience them all.

The main reason this place has been selected is because it is one of the few remaining places on earth where there are NO SPEED LIMITS!!!! So these cars can be used like they were meant – with me in the passenger seat. :D

Here’s a little pic of the Stuart Hwy….. :P
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a69/dingo23/StuartHwy.jpg

Australias largest car magazine (MOTOR) will most likely be joining us on one of the days to get some pictures and info which they will feature in a future issue. If they attend they will be bringing along another car - all they've said is it would be different. :hmm:

We will obviously do some of the tourist stuff like visiting Uluru (Ayers Rock) and such, since alot of us have never been out there before.
So I will return with plenty of car pics (and vids), but also some scenery shots of the outback.

If any of you have a request (i.e. particular videos or pictures for example) then let me know and I’ll see what I can do…..

To say I am excited would be an understatement……bring on August the 4th!!!!

I couldn't hold it in any longer and had to share it with the rest of JW. :P

Yes I would have loved to see the Miura out there - but in the end the owner wasn't willing to bring such an (old) masterpeice to the middle of nowhere (where there is not likely to be a mechanic for miles if needed).

I can fit about 150 pics at full-res on my memory card, and at the end of each day I will upload them to the laptop. So over the 5 days I can get about 750 pictures - enough? :P

congrats 8)

Its not a race and they are all sensible guys so no insane things will happen I would say. Having said that, the Murcie owner who lives in Alice Springs has reached 320kmh  on the hwy before.

No my Holden will not be going, as I said I will fly there and then be passenger in the cars for the entire trip.

Done. :D

I will hopefully get some time in all of the cars, shouldn't be a problem with the amount of km's we will be covering.

Thanks, and yes I do have a decent video camera (only 1 year old) so the sound should be no problem.

dingo .. what equiptment are you taking ?

I will be taking:

* my digital camera obviously.
* the polarizer filter and a tripod for some morning/night shots.
* and my digital video camera.
* my old camera as a spare incase something bad happens to my new one....fingers crossed I don't need it. :|

:P sounds VELY VELY promising

Great idea with video camera too. Will you have any chance to get on the net to drop off images and vids so you can start a day with empty memory cards? :P I dont mean here on JW but somewere on the net and.., then obviosly editing it later,..... and posting a few "preview" pics so we can drool all over the comps

Yes, I will be bringing my laptop so I can empty my memory card at the end of each day.
There is an internet cafe near my hotel, so if I find the time I might drop in for a visit at JW with a preview pic or two....

I've had it for about a month or so I think.

I'm already used to it now, at first I sometimes forgot to adjust it but now its not a problem. It doesn't take long to get used to the adjustment, as you can see the result of turning it on the screen while you do it.

Its an essential piece of equipment to have to get the best possible pics, makes a huge difference in certain situations. :D

Great trip, how did this happen ? I mean, how did you manage to be the official photographer of this event ? (and get your plane ticket paid - yes, one of those new flying things that can fly all around the world as you told me a few days ago  )

The idea was 'born' on F-Chat, and then we moved to a private forum to discuss the details of the trip. It is not an 'official' event, just a bunch of owners agreeing to meet in a certain place.

So I am tagging along to be the photographer as some of the owners had seen my pics and had no problem having me come along and take pics of the trip.

They are not however paying for my plane ticket (not that I would expect them too) or accommodation, that will all be out of my own pocket. The owners are already spending big money trucking the cars out there and on fuel costs, so I am more than willing to pay my own way (since this is a once in a lifetime experience). :D

Sounds like a great event to be involved in; hope that things run smoothly and safely.
If you want to take photos near Uluru then it is highly likely that you will need a permit as your activities may be considered commercial.
It is considered disrespectful to the traditional owners to climb Uluru and costs $25 to get into the park.
It is about 450km from the alice, but thats not far at 300Km/h :D !
There will be lots of tourists around at this time of the year as it is much cooler than the summertime.
Motor have some of the best auto photographers in Australia (Cristian Brunelli and Thomas Wielecki) so be sure to have a chat if you get a chance!
Have fun mate and I look forward to the photos! 8)

Thanks for the info. :D

I will see what happens about taking photos near Uluru, if need be I'll get a damn permit - as I definately need some pics there. :D

I don't think we'll average 300kmh for the trip to Uluru, but I would imagine we can dispatch those 450kmh in just over 2 hrs.... :D

The photos in MOTOR always impress me, so I'll definatley have a chat with whoever turns up.

Fucking awesome to hear about this, Dingo! You sure will have a great time!! I'm already looking forward to the pics. Did I hear some morning/night shots? I love those ones. Some cars, the sun getting down (or coming up) and some beautiful landscape. The pics will be superb without a doubt. I can already be sure of that right now! :D

I guess it will be very hot in the Outback. But your drool will cool the cars down so they will be fine at all time. Enjoy it with every nerve in your body. This is just awesome and I'm very jealous :D

Haha, no actually it is fairly cool out there at the moment - about 20-25 C. Thats a good thing also for the photos, not too much sun glare to worry about. :D

.....I'm very jealous :D

LOL.....so was I about your trip to the NS. :D

Yep as Robbo said one guy from QLD will be bringing both his GT2 and CS - the GT3 will stay at home. Then another guy is trucking his 360 Spider in that same truck.

I have no idea who the contact in QLD is to tell you the truth, I only know the president of the WA Ferrari club. :)

I know the guy with the CS, GT2 and GT3 often goes to the tracks up there on weekends with either the Ferrari or Porsche club. If I remember I'll ask him when we meet how you could get info.......

Try here http://www.fca.org.au/ and go to Club Contacts and go to the Queensland division and you can send the president an email. I don't know whether that helps or not?

Just some of the latest news....

It now seems the E55 AMG will not be coming, as we haven't heard from the owner for a few days.....never a good sign. :) Also, the guy with the Boxster is struggling to find transport for the car to get there....

However the main players are still coming, and I'm not so worried about an E55 or Boxster. :D

Also, within a day or two we should get confirmation either way from MOTOR magazine - the plan is they will drive one car (not sure what) up there from Adelaide.

dingo
07-27-2005, 10:13 AM
I'm just hopeful all of them are willing to get up early to get this picture.....or bring the cars out at night. :) If they are then of course a picture like that will be attempted. :D

You'll have to dig up the topic to find the (750) pics as it will be old news by the time you get back from China.

I have 2 requests:

2) see if you can get a shot of the pack from the sunroof (if equipped) of one of the cars...though not at 300+kmh..colliding with a bug at that speed might sting a little

I'm not sure yet, it really depends if I have any spare time at night. The owners are interested in going to the casino and the different bars/restaurants so it could be that I won't have time - and need to do it all once back home. :?

Shit news today - the 550M that I had planned to have a ride in needs a clutch replacement so won't be coming anymore! :(

That obviously leaves me with a bit of a problem, so I am busily trying to confirm a seat in another of the cars.....fingers crossed. :)

Here is what is left of the starters.....dropping like flys. :(

· Lamborghini Murcielago
· Lamborghini Gallardo
· Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
· Ferrari 360 Spider
· Porsche 996 GT2
· Porsche 996 Turbo
· Lotus Esprit S4
· Honda NSX
· Porsche Boxster
· Mitsubishi Evo IX (with the mag)

still a mouthwatering list (for me), so it should be a blast even with a few non-starters. :D

Another late change - the magazine can't bring the Evo IX anymore (Mitsubishi are idiots, thats why) so they have replaced it with a VZ HSV GTO. Thats basically our version of the Vauxhall Monaro VXR - with a 6.0L LS2 engine (400hp). :D

Hi guys - this is the first chance I've had since Friday to get online (so busy). :D

I am having the time of my life - words can hardly describe what we've got up too! We achieved some insane speeds, quite a few of the cars cracking the triple ton.

I've got about 500 pics which are not edited since I've had no time so far - but heres a couple to keep you happy. :D

A group shot in a scenic location:

http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/4263/groupshot0yd.th.jpg (http://img116.imageshack.us/my.php?image=groupshot0yd.jpg)

and the Aussie beast showing who's boss at the unrestricted speed signs

Say that you switch from tim to time and that you've been in all of them
and I'll just die of jealousy.

Oh man those unrestricted speed sings . What did you end up in most of the trip? Good to see an Aussie out there not letting all those Italians/German have ALL the spotlight 8). Also in the pic you posted on FChat is that a dead koala infront of the murci :puke:. Just noticed a dead something else in the other pic you posted there. Where there dead animals everywhere or something. Sorry that just drew my attention a bit away from the cars for about .00000001 seconds. Anyway have a safe trip home.

Yes I got to ride in ALL of the cars - and even drive one of them for about 100km to The Olgas (more info later). :D

Robbo - no they were both kangaroos. There was actually less roadkill then I expected... :|

Wutputt - yes some speedo shots, including one of the max speed achieved by any of the cars (not taken by me though). :D

I have only edited a few pics so you guys will have to wait a bit longer before I can start a proper topic in the WYST section.

Very true - but I'll get over it. :D

I did take about 1.5hrs of video, though a guy in Adelaide has all the tapes as he will burn them all onto DVD for us guys. Then when I get it back it depends on whether we will sell any of the footage - that would impact whether I can share it with you dudes.

I am very close to fnishing my editing - about 230 pics have made it to my final list. :D

There is a chance some of them (those taken on Monday after MOTOR left) will end up in the magazine so not sure if I can post them or not.... :?

So in any case expect something either over the weekend or on Monday.

Is Motor paying u for the shots? If they arent paying u then you are free to show us, but if they are paying u then u may want to wait till u find out which ones they used.

Was the weather perfect everyday?

They did say to one of the other guys that they pay for any pics they would use - but not 100% sure.

Yeah the weather was perfect everyday, around 20 C and not a single cloud in the sky. It did drop to 0 C overnight but that didn't really bother me.

At least post the ones you have on f-chat

those guys are pushy :P , so I need to keep them happy. I would rather only start a topic here when I have them all ready, instead of a couple per day.

So you choose them over us.... I understand we can be pushy too you know.....

haha, well they are the ones who made it possible. I have only posted a few over there anyway, and in low-res (640x480). :)

I think I'll post them this afternoon after work - if MOTOR haven't got back to me by then.
