Oh, am I happy Baltic sea is too cold for these kind of creatures :D I would like to know how long was the shark? Sure looks like a monster.
sharks live every where  just make sure you dont go swimming too deep
Do you think this is the type of shark that "feeding dives" such as the one below would anticipate stumbling across? ;) :P
http://www.greatwhiteadventures.com/tigersharkdata.html
Diver Interaction: This is one of the most dangerous sharks, having attacked divers, surfers, swimmers and boats. An underwater encounter with a tiger shark can be exhilarating, but this shark should be treated with the utmost respect! They have been known to harass divers during shark feeds and are not at all finicky about what they eat. However, for the daring shark diver, there is nothing more thrilling than an open water encounter! The tiger shark is most often encountered by divers in Florida and the Bahamas, the Coral Sea, New Guinea, some areas in the Philippines, and the Hawaiian Islands.

I thought it was neat at first but then this picture started bothering me when realizing how much this was for competition and showboating while sharks are getting endangered because of fisherman wanting their fins. http://images.ibsys.com/2005/0721/4752971.jpg

I agree - and considering the catch didn't even count for the competition --- what a waste of a huge mature shark.

I have a hard time personally believing they are endangered after having 3 people get bit by sharks(1 died) the other week when I was visiting the gulf. Tiger sharks are nasty, them and bull sharks we are prolly best off without.
That being said, huge shark, hopefully they ship some of that meat to the local fish market, shark steaks are good:)

In the last 2 decades the shark population has dropped by 80%, but they're supposedly making a comeback.
Tigers and Oceanic white tips do an excellent job of keeping the seas clean :)

The number of people who are attacked is not indicative of the actual number of sharks. Just think about it this way. Each year there are more and more people who go to visit the Gulf, as well as beaches the world over. In the case of the Gulf, the Lemon, Bull and Tiger sharks are the most frequent large sharks to visit areas near shore. Bull and Lemon sharks are likely to make a hit on waders standing in the water as they generally hunt by senses other than sight and upon bumping into something they often make an exploratory bite. This is the most frequent kind of attack so far as I know. All you need for an attack like that to occur is for people to be in the water in significant enough numbers that a shark might bump into one of them.

The Baltic isn't too cold, there are sharks that live beneath the polar ice caps.

that's a large tiger shark...
but it's not that huge actually, other sharks can be a lot larger and heavier... for example, the largest (dangerous) shark cough was in cuba in the 40's and was 6.5m large and 3tons! (2 golfs!!)

that was a great white..
some says that a 10 m white was seen in japan, but no proof was given so, this one is the official largest shark :D

You think thats big I live on the gulf coast of florida, someone pulled a 15 foot great white in on a line out in the gulf around the beginning of this month. The greatwhites this far north is kind of odd.
Thats kinda sad, sharks are so misunderstood. People just do stupid things, when you behave like a predators food and they are hungry there gonna try to eat you. Its not malicious its not a thought out process like a human, its just the way they are.
I scuba dive atleast twice a month, the largest shark ive ever swam with was a black tip. I was out at the culverts around several sunken ships about 45' underwater setting an anchor, and an 8 or 9 foot long Black tip shark swam up on me from behind. She was just checking me out and as soon as I started to breath out she looked right at me then took off. When no food blood or chum is in the water it is always safer to be under water than on the surface. Most of the other spearfishermen round here only kill there fill enough to eat for the day. Many of them wrangle with the large bulls, and hammerheads out here. Bull and hammerhead sharks are much more common here, than tigers.
So imagine the shark in that pic only 2 or 3 feet shorter and thats essentially the size animal that was two arm lengths away from me. Sad to loose a predator like that, every year the ocean gets raped by commercial fishermen if they were more responsible it would be better, they over fish certain areas. I really love the ocean ive seen colors and creatures that most people only experience in pictures.

Tiger and Bull sharks are Keystone species. Getting rid of them would drastically alter the ecosystem. Take a look at what happen in Cuba with urchins since Green Turtles are now ecologically extinct.
About catching the shark and killing it, well, it's obviously not illegal. Therefore, Tigers must not be on the endangered species list. I doubt they just killed it for no reason wahtsoever, I'm sure it'll end up on someones dinner plate.

Illegal, no... Though they cut down about 5 years ago on shark fishing in the gulf..
