Who wants TT to film one of his laps around the famous northloop of the nürburgring this friday!?

He's getting a videocamera from me but somehow he isn't really interested...
The ride of his lifetime!

'cmon, motivate him!! :)
He cannot say no if everyone cheers him up!

You know I could easily make this topic disappear dude? :è

Now I just hope you will forget your video camera :prr:

LOL, we already talked about this, we ended up with a naked TT doing a 3 hours lap in a lightweight A4 with no passenger seats and duck tape all around the car ... and then the tourist bus will overtake him
That's for your "get a life" :P

BTW I'd also like him to film his lap http://www.supercarfrance.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_oui.gif

I can only see 2 problems with this..

you're not allowed to video laps of the ring, so if the marshalls see you have a camera setup they won't allow you on the track until its been removed

mounting the camera solidly in a position where it cant be seen by the marshalls.. bumpy hand held cam videos usually suck :P

the only real solution is to use bullet cams mounted stealthily and a camcorder hidden in a glovebox or somewhere else out of sight :!:

Well I dont' have a mount since I am not a video guy like I always say.
So yes, it will be in my friend's hands (and hidden while entering the track for obvious reasons.. if a NS marshall is reading this, it is obviously a joke :!: )
And that was my main concern while talking about it with dodo.. I already don't like vids that much.. and if the video is crappy because it shakes a lot, even less..
But then I realized that, no matter how crappy, you maybe NEED to have on tape your first NS experience...

Now of course I am a bit stressed about marshalls along the track who could easily see the camera and give a phone to the "paddocks", but not sure how paranoid they are about that matter...

mcduck
07-19-2005, 12:27 PM
well I think its just the guys who let you on to the track who would notice and do something about it.. I doubt any marshall around the track would even notice ;)

anyway I can understand why you'd want a video of it .. and even a bumpy hand held vid is much better than nothing ;)

Why are cameras forbidden again?

TT
07-19-2005, 12:36 PM
The vids are forbidden to avoid ppl having on tape silly accidents or gore stuff I think.

BTW, I am trying to rent a C200 Kompressor actually since I got the A4 too many times already.. but I fear it will be once again the A4 because they only have two Mercedes in Switzerland (Europcar).. or maybe the new A6, which is seriously cool in the Avant form (2.4 engine though)..

still, not a fast car...

I guess the vid restriction are to keep people from making vids of themself going stupidly fast or something...:?:

exactly..

anyway I guess you could duct tape the passenger to the seat to reduce the bumpy cam effect or something

TT
07-19-2005, 12:38 PM
LOL the passenger has some pretty fit arms so I hope this will help :D but the duct tape idea sounds cool :D

On public days there are no marshalls to catch you with a camera, just the guys at the toll gate, and often a recovery truck half way around the track at Breidsheid.

You need to carry with you, in your pocket a suction cup mount and small camcorder.

Have both in your pockets/glovebox/under the seat/ in your pants.

As soon as you are out of sight of the marshalls (ie as you pass under the bridge) whip out your suction cup, clip the camera onto it, mount it to the windscreen and off you go :P

Being sure to only remove it after you pass under the gantry on Dottinger ;)

Now - go practice your moves hehehe :P

Oh, anothey way is to have a camcorder in your jacket pocket, and have a helmet/bullet cam mounted to your hat/helmet... then just put it on and be off :)

easy as that.

No idea where to find a suction cup mount around here and too late to order one online sadly...

I will go for 12 minutes for the A4, 13 if TT got the C200 ...... don't know what to expect from a 2.4 A6 tho.

TT
07-19-2005, 04:28 PM
HAHA, 12 min will be already a quick lap and I am also sure traffic will be quite heavy. I'd aim to a quiet 15 min from bridge to bridge :D

SilviaEvo
07-19-2005, 04:46 PM
haha id say 16 with the A6's 2.4, 14-15 ish for the A4's 1.8T. but if he could go as fast as he did on the bike catching the Bugatti id say 13

dodo

Just be fucking careful. You wouldn't be the first to underestimate the demanding Nordschleife track with it's blind coners and other cars flying by at moments you don't expect any....

Have fun.

Yeah yeah :)

Seriously, not to scare anyone, but I know quite some guys (online) that have been on the 'Ring, and they say it easily takes 50-100 laps before even grasping the whole circuit and get anywhere near some ideal line. Many accidents DO happen on the irst few laps by inexperienced drivers pushing too hard to get a good timed lap. Just something to look out for.

..they should be home already ;)

Thanks David for these pics! HAHA it was great! I will write a full report of this adventure soon! But I also have to edit some 350 pics myself :D

As for the time (no video available). We just timed the second lap, the only one where I really give it all (as fast as I dared and always in controlled conditions), and it was a 12:30 from bridge to bridge :)

dodo
07-23-2005, 07:11 AM
12:30 isn't that bad.. just 20 seconds slower than jean-claude in the 550 maranello :D

TT
07-23-2005, 07:15 AM
And in a lap I was following a Mondia, the guy inside with helmets gloves and everything and he was unable to shake the mighty A4 from his ass :)

But some of those GT3 and GT3 RS

tt, your best bet for rental cheapish car is Z4 2.2, my mates have rented one a few times, and it works on the ring. needs some power, but as it is the ultimate driving machine, rent one. sixt has at least Z4 2.2 rental, and i remember europcar has too.

sixt has at least Z4 2.2 rentalexcept there is a fixed clause in the esixt contracts that you are not allowed to take their cars to any kind of racing-stuff... ;)
i don't know how others like europcar handle this..

As for Europcar, they say you can't drive their car in "Motosport events" and such LOL.. well the Ring is considered a public toll road with no speed restrictions so maybe..

And well, I always use Europcar so I wasn't aware Sixt also offer unlimited KM.. do they do that on the Z4 also? Because I needed something in which we could do almost 1400 km in a day :!:

Oh yes, and we had a little girl with us too, so we needed a 4 seater.

And yes, as Wutputt said, I wasn't alone in my trip, my best friend came along. it would have been impossible do stay aware more than 24 hours, drive more than 1300 km, take more than 300 pics and still come home alive.

Oh yes, he is a cop LOL and he just enjoyed the NS experience as much as I did :)
