just driving around town yesterday, and i started to smoke... so pulled over, and noticed some oil burning on the exhaust manifold :(

upon closer inspection today, it looks like the main seal at the transmission... im not looking forward to getting that repaired; im guessing 4-500 $ down the tube... currenlty its just a slower leak dependant on engine speed; still smokes up quite a bit at any stop light/sign :?

You can't just JB Weld the sucka?

Do the following all at once:

Front pump seal, Outputshaft seal (or axle seals depending on drivetrain) Rear Main Seal.

good luck.

why not do it your self dude?? cant be that hard, or so i dont think it can be.

godd luck with it. to do it right, i would have to disconnect the trans/ and or the engine...

this car is to be my daily driver for at least another 136,000 miles... once its paid for, then the extra money goes into the next sports car.

thanks for the advice, zfrk

i just realized you're talking about the jeep. With a hydraulic jack it shouldn't be too bad to do on your own. You shouldn't have to pull the transfer case off to do it.
(this also means you need to do the front output shaft seal as well.)

however if the torque converter slips out of index you will be inventing new words as you try and slip it back on  But if you don't have much experience with this kind of thing, then you're probably better off paying someone to do it :|

well, im having the tricky parts done by the shop, and several parts are going to be done by me...

the main seal isnt the problem as i thought it was (tricky to see as the hose is located right next to the main seal... however, i seemed to have found a number of other leaks in the process that i'll deal with

rear dif leak (done by me)
tansfer case leak (hoping for warented work) otherwise, done by me
supposed motor oil leak, but i think its slow enough that ive not even noticed a 1/4th quart missing between oil changes.

i expect to be cussing a storm when im workin on the car

im hoping to avoid doing anything with the torque converter, or clutch... but i can tell you this, when working on my previous cars; the long hair totally made it 100x worse :? ... glad its all gone now :-D
