GM is giving C6 owners the chance to have a nearly as racy experience as the sixth generation Z06 owners will have in the near future; all this, on top of having few of the drawbacks. A C6 targa top was seen touting Z06 wheels; which needed a prodruding rear arch to house the massive 315's, brakes, and suspension moving through Brighton, MI

the exhaust is definately reworked with this package as well, as it boasts a louder, and deeper rumble then the mighty 427 CID packs at low RMPs,(read, still likely to be the 6.0 liter LS2) and likely less required thorttle vs. noise. i presume that this may include a reworked intake, exhaust, and ECU... likley to bump power output above a C5 Z06.

this looks like it will give C6 owners to just lightly upgrade, rather then open up thier pocket books yet again while turning in a used C6 at a depreciated value. Some 'vette enthusiasts might even say that they prefer this meathod, as they love sporting the targa top, rather then a more racy fixed roof. This may also annoy future Z06 owners to some degree, degrading thier 'top of the line' corvette; however, i suggest the benefits outweigh the means.

Classic GM tactic.

Take the "one off items from the King of the Hill" and stick em on the next "regular" model, maing it not so regular.

The did not do this for the C5 generation, and it paid off well - huge C5 Z06 sales numbers.

They did do this with the C4 - and while the LT4 may have lower performance than the ZR1 - it looked exactly the same, so people were less inclined to pony up the money and the ZR1 died befor ehte C4 model run ended, from extremly low sales.

This is great for people wanting a car that looks the part of the C6 Z06 and offers some of the performancefor a lower price , but it stamps with authority notion that the C6 Z06 is going to be very low production, isn't expected to sell well and wasn't really the main objective.

;)

This does mena that C6 Z06 wheels will be a nice cheap upgrade for me in the not too distant future then :P

BTW - do you want to watermark them - and may I start spreading wild and ugly rumours based on your images there bud?

lol..

The thing is.. Is selling the low number car the objective.. Or is selling the most number which might be more likely if you project the image of the low number with a cheaper price point.

***Dont you hate that Im now getting my mba and focusing on marketing strategies.

Isn't that what "Chevy - Built Like a Rock" means in Chinese? ;)

shall i make it intrusive, or non-intrusive?

and the closest google search i got popped up this picture

make that 100%... but, i must say it looked quite ugly, even for a c4
Ninety-six was an eclectic model year for Corvette. Take the Grand Sport. Wow, now there's visual impact! Only 976 were built. The option was mostly show-Admiral Blue with a white stripe, black wheels and a set of red hash marks on the left front fender. Intended to recall the look of the late Zora Duntov's lightweight race cars of the 1960s, the Grand Sport cut a strong profile you either liked or didn't.

The upgrade pieces were: a nodular-iron crankshaft with rolled-fillet journals, freer-flowing cylinder heads, higher tension valve springs, a roller timing chain, larger valves with hollow-stems, 1.6:1 aluminum roller rocker arms, higher capacity fuel injectors and the PCM calibration to go with all this. The changes were worth 30 horsepower and about 800 more usable rpm.

LT4 is a kick to drive. It feels much like an LT1 up to about 5000 rpm, but runs hard beyond that. On the dragstrip, in a Collector Edition (CE) Coupe, LT4 showed its stuff by going 13.34/107.2 in my tests. This engine will go down in history as the most powerful production small-block V8 ever put in a Chevrolet. Before you e-mail us about the original LT1 and the 375hp FI motors, remember, they were rated with the gross power system in use until 1972. Since then, engines have been rated with "SAE net" power. It is possible to compare and, if the LT4 was tested using the old system; it might have been rated at about 380-390 hp.

Yes - for 1996 they closed out the C4 era with a 330hp LT4 Grand Sport. Only 1000 produced.

The only C4 I would seriously consider. Even over the ZR1 - just for the pure presence of the C4 GS.

Yeah - the stripe would be too much of a give away if it is a GS in the works.

I am just glad they plan on selling more of those wheels - It will probably be the cheapest way to get a set of 18/19 wider wheels under the C5 Z. There is no way in hell I would spend $5,000 on a set of HRE's - that is too much like pissing money away for me.. hehe.

Hell, I am so cheap, I drove a 400 mile round trip today to go buy a set of take -off long tube headers - real cheap :)

a GS would be exciting, i think :)
as i mention earlier, the exhaust is definately not stock C6, and definately not stock C6 Z06, which leave a lot to be wanted, but i would be perfectly happy with the rumble of this car in particular. unfortunately, the new camera does no video clips, but the stills are much higher quality.
(in case you havent heard the new Z http://rapidshare.de/files/3119015/Zo6_mini_clips.rar.html again, filmed by me :P )
the digitalcorvettes discussion seems to be laiden with 15 year olds
by the way, we will definately be needing some computer generated video clips from the woods with the new headers

Yeah - some of the folks at DigitalCorvettes seem to struggle with simple logic sometimes- then again some of the folks are very mature and great to chat with.

But the cool thing is, that everytime I post stuff there, it starts a shit storm - and I get "called out" -- only for what I posted to turn out to be true.. ;)

Fun times.. :P

i suppose its easy to think back in ZR1 days when they were 315's opposed to the 325's that are on it now... i'll edit the first post.

ive heard people calling it a C6 SS, and another a C6 GS... time will tell.

the picture is shared due to its uniqueness... no, its not a Z06, and its not a standard C6 either...

anyway, a year a few months back, this photo leaked GM http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/photopost/data/677/1real_c6_1.jpg and apparently got somebody fired...
so this car is the fruit of that 'tub' that people thought was the Z06
and for those suggesting those aren't Z06 brakes...
"have you looked at them closely in person?" i have

well, i've only seen this 'grandsport' once so far, and took about 5 shots of it, and picked the 2 that worked the best.
of course, i may run into another any given day... they arent for sale yet, and i dont think corvetteconti has them on the dealer lot in ohio.

2008 Corvette rumors
Posted Aug 23, 2005, 4:00 PM ET by Eric Bryant
Related entries: Sports/GTs, Spy Photos

Unsubstantiated rumors (the kind that are the most fun) have it that GM will introduce two new engines for the Corvette in 2008. Both will have a displacement of 6.2L, with a naturally-aspirated version producing 450 HP and a supercharged version making a robust 600 HP. Does this mean that the Blue Devil won’t get a supercharged 7.0L LS7? The use of less displacement for more strength would follow the trend established by GM with the forced-induction versions of the Ecotec and Northstar. Now, what about the Vette in the spy pics? Some have claimed it’s a targa-roof version of the Z06, but it lacks some of that model’s scoops and extractors. More likely, it’s a new mid-level variant that would sit between the base Vette and the Z06, or it could be a mid-cycle revision. [Hat tip: Digital Corvettes]

it seems it took the world a little longer then i expected, but this guy has some of the story plain wrong; no matter :P (time to mail him to give me my tip for the images  )
looks like Rick from Conti-corvette is taking more credit then what is due
