This last wednesday (13th July 2005) I went up to Kingswinford (North Midlands in the UK) and picked up my new car! Only difference is, unlike my current car, I have to build this one myself!

Now I know you guys ask for proof of ownership, but since its in pieces, and I only have modules 1+2 (out of 6) its a bit hard. So I have just taken these 3 photo's now, with the items laid on my laptop with JW on the screen in my best efforts to prove I am telling the truth.

If I think there is interest here, I will keep this post updated with the latest build pictures and information (like an online diary :)), and once its finished, anyone who is around is more than welcome for a ride, as its an excuse for me to drive it some more :D 8) . I am predicting it will take me 6 months to make, hopefully less, but i'm allowing up to 9 incase of problems etc

Although my kit is only the SEiW 1800i, it still gets 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, and sounds raw as hell 8), i know that because i got a ride in an identical engined car the night before (but no photo proof of that, sorry!).

If there are any questions about it, then please ask and I will try and answer, meanwhile, here are the pictures!

The build manual, big heavy, and it has more than Module 1 in it, its got all the modules, just the front cover says 1.
http://img310.imageshack.us/img310/4092/dsc045702iq.th.jpg (http://img310.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc045702iq.jpg)

next up is the letter of confirmation I was sent, i've blanked my name and address for obvious reasons
http://img310.imageshack.us/img310/3381/dsc045739zo.th.jpg (http://img310.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc045739zo.jpg)

and my final proof I can offer tonight is the checklist for module 1 I received to show I have all the parts in the kit, i know its not really proof, but how else would i get it?
http://img310.imageshack.us/img310/685/dsc045722yl.th.jpg (http://img310.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc045722yl.jpg)

I can show other forms of proof next time i go to the car which is temporarily stored in my aunts garage an hour away until my build workshop is ready to use!

And here are some quick pictures I took on the day.

Westfield Sportscars Ltd, and an XTR4 factory car:

This is the kit in the garage as i left it last night
http://img152.echo.cx/img152/7354/dsc045521en.th.jpg (http://img152.echo.cx/my.php?image=dsc045521en.jpg) http://img152.echo.cx/img152/7082/dsc045534je.th.jpg (http://img152.echo.cx/my.php?image=dsc045534je.jpg)

I chose the V8 bonnet for the car, and a black nose cone (it will look good when finished  )
http://img152.echo.cx/img152/3435/dsc045550lz.th.jpg (http://img152.echo.cx/my.php?image=dsc045550lz.jpg) http://img310.imageshack.us/img310/7397/dsc045632rn.th.jpg (http://img310.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc045632rn.jpg)

and I also chose the CF effect kit, which all came in a box, i'll get pictures of the rest later, but here are the front wings stacked one on top of the other
http://img310.imageshack.us/img310/1941/dsc045624yp.th.jpg (http://img310.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc045624yp.jpg)

and here are some other pics I took;
The drive shafts
http://img310.imageshack.us/img310/8651/dsc045617fi.th.jpg (http://img310.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc045617fi.jpg)

AP Racing front brake upgrade pack (obviously there's 2 of them :P)
http://img310.imageshack.us/img310/2962/dsc045572zy.th.jpg (http://img310.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc045572zy.jpg)

some of those pics were taken on the back ramp or in the back of the van still, and here is a pic of the van... why not eh?
http://img310.imageshack.us/img310/687/dsc045646tx.th.jpg (http://img310.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc045646tx.jpg) (next to my aunts saxo)
and a nice way to annoy traffic behind you, get a slow van
http://img310.imageshack.us/img310/4610/dsc045394hh.th.jpg (http://img310.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc045394hh.jpg) the smarter members may notice the photo is from the passenger seat, thats because my dad was driving the van because i'm too young to rent a van myself, and i've only held my licence for a couple of months

I think thats about it, I have some pictures I took from the journey, look out for them in the 'WYST' forum.

I'll update when I reach a notable stage in building, which hopefully will be late next week as long as I can get my build space sorted :| and like I said, please feel free to ask questions, I know I have the kit, and I will do my best to prove it if there are any doubts.

edit... my 100th post :D

As I told you, that's a good idea and I hope you will use this topic as a diary, untill the car will be ready. Do you have a rough idea about a date?

TT, thanks for the help before, and you can see it worked!
as for a finish date, i'm hoping it will be up and running by early Spring 2006, but thats subject to technical problems, and the cold weather as i'll be building in the winter in a cold building!

Nice car 8)

And seriously quick for a 17 year old

Is this going to be a car to be used mainly on the road or the track? And do you have a car to drive on a daily basis?

I hope you keep the topic updated with build pics, as i am fascinated by the Kit car scene... although only the more polished cars/kits such as Westfield/Caterham interest me. No re-bodied Ford Granada's turned into Vipers

One final question - whos gonna insure you on that? Insurance is bad enough on a 1.25 litre Fiesta for a 17 year old guy like yourself! Try £1800 as an early quote for me, and £1550 the best i could get.

That's really neat, hope you are able to keep to your 6 month schedule 8)

If I had some room in this country (a free garage somewhere), I'd love to make one too. Preferably a Caterham. I just love the look, it's so... raw :D

thenumber1, I already have a 1.4 peugeot 206 LX, and the insurance fully comp is only £800, but thats with my mum as policy holder and me as primary driver.
The westfield goes under kit car insurance, I was quoted £1800 for a 2.0 Tiger parked on the street, so an 1.8 Westfield in a grage or driveway will be less, and i might have to sell the 206 to pay for it though, and drive a car with no roof and doors all year round :?

and I will keep this topic updated with pics,
and dani, you really should get the V8 Ultima, it rocks!

Thats actually quite resonable. I'm still on my dads policy due to being a poor student, last year aged 19 it was £330 for a 998cc mini!. best quote i could get in my own name aged 17 was around £1250 i seem to remember. Crazy! I guess you will go specialist though, regular companies probably won't touch you with a car like that!. Looks like it will be a beast :D good luck with the build :D . BTW did you ever see Is Born on discovery when Mark Evans built and raced a westfield? i've got the box set of the series it turned out great :D http://www.i2itelevision.com/racing-car.php

Ah.... i imagined you wouldn't be the holder. Its so much more expensive when you are, but allows for a NCB to be built up to its maximum in time for your 23-24th birthday, when you can buy something more powerful than you could have had before (Not that the Westfield is slow or nothing). I can't wait til then

AL123, I dont have discovery channel :( , only the standard freeview channels, but I have heard of it, and i thought about buying it on dvd, but i havent.

thenumber1, the westfield will be under my name to build up NCB, i'll be 18 then, and if i use a specialist company (forgotten the name :o ) they will give me build cover (adds to NCB) and a discount because its a westfield, as they have a special deal with WSC :D

and insane, why not meet half way at the nurburgring? :P im joking about that though, it will be a good year before i take it on that!

Just a small update, after todays work efforts I am in much pain, and very tired, but i have finally made a build site... just need to install the wall now...
but whats most annoying is this place is still an hour from my house... any members want to make a little money in the Surrey area for lending a garage? :P

anyway, here is it almost ready, by wednesday next week I can actually start to construct my westfield in its new home! (cold, damp and breezy :( but one makes the best of ones situation) doesnt it look tidy.... no? you should have seen it this morning!

yeah, my aunt & uncle said i couldnt keep the garage, and i could use that barn thing in the picture, but it was full (really full) of rubbish and things, so now i have cleared it, and when I return from Spa 24hr this weekend I will build the wall, and the doors, and then i can really crack on with making the car... if i'm not careful though, modules 3 and 4 will be ready for pickup before i'm finished!
