View Full Version : Jeremy's Ford GT for sale now!
I guess he has chosen not to take Ford up on the buy back offer :P
For sale @ www.romansinternational.co.uk
2005 Ford GT £179,000
Blue with black leather. Unique opportunity to own 1 of the 28 UK registered Ford GT's. Used to belong to Jeremy Clarkson until he got sick of the cruddy alarm system that kept going off for no reason.
Maybe Ford said :fist: on the "buy back" request... ;)

YUes - please do... and find out exactly how they justify this offer:
2004 mustang £31,000
The pics for that car don't show up. And quite which 2004 Mustang is worth $31,000 let alone £31,000 is rather intriguing.

They sell Vettes for way more than they're worth over there as well, due to importing them unofficially I suppose. Nobody in their right mind should pay that much for a Mustang, though, unless it's had its engine, suspension, and body completely changed :P

Damn right. I nearly quit my job to start full-time importing US cars to the UK a few months back when it was $1.95 to 1GBP.
Alas, I don't have the UK contacts, marketing plans nor the capital to do it in earnest...well I have a bit of capital, but not enough to tie up in 3 or 4 vehicles at once to support this type of business.

Nope its just market forces, its what people are prepared to pay. Jeremy returned it, knowing that he could sell it for a considerable profit (he said £25,000) But he classed that as profiting from his postion as a top motoring journo. lets face it, thats the only reason he got one.

Should they really be advertising the "cruddy alarm system", without saying that it has been fixed? Or did I miss that part? There is a nice £63,000 markup on that car too.
Well, besides the fact that JC and the TG crew severely exaggerated their fuel experience, because to sustain 7mpg you would have to maintain redline rpm the whole time - it is over priced and rather a single purpose car.
Even more single purpose than the Viper. Almost like a Countach for the new Millennium hehehe

I would never have ordered one in the first place - its a terrible car - 7 MPG, a range of only 74 miles, useless doors - not worth it, at least a Ferrari is useful.
ya the 7mpg isn't really honest, many mags have rated it has having a higher mpg on their total for the test (track, highway, and city driving all in one)
and it is half the price of an 360cs, and can keep up with it on the track, and in a couple of month/years, it would be a 1/4 of the price :D
and what is wrong with the doors?? they have been like that for years and I guess the old drivers never really complained about them
^^ he is refering to the fact that while the doors are cool and allow easy entry when you have space to swing them full open, but they are very impractical if you wanted to daily drive a GT and need to try squeeze into the car.

If Top Gear bothered to quote the race mpg of all the cars they tested, the Ford GT probably wouldn't look too bad. :P
I seem to remember a pic "got gas" posted by a certain Z06 owning JW member...where the instantaneous mpg was "4 mpg". Not to mention that an SLR will empty its 21gal tank in 19 min at full throttle according to JC... I wouldn't even want to know what mpg a F360CS would get on the track, considering it only manages 10mpg in normal city driving. :D

not in a corner spot
and they over exaggerated it on top gear JC just didn't want to crouch,
in montreal I saw a guy get out of the car in a casino parking lot space, and just had to bend @ the knee's and he got out fine.
Well, I park in an undergound garage everyday, and unless I get an end spot, even with my long doors I am bending back and sliding out... actually a pain the arse because the car is a lot lower than a sedan or heaven forbid I drove an SUV.
I should imagine the GT would get real old real fast if you tried to commute.
I would really like a GT in the future, but it would have to be my daily driver ;)

considering it only manages 10mpg in normal city driving. :D
WTF? Really? Thats horrible. How can it drop so much from the 360M? It only has 25 more bhp...how much of the engine did they change???
^ it's all a function of what rpm you are driving at. The amount of fuel consumed per combusiton cycle is constant, you just do more cycles.
So when ever you have a car that is "more highly strung" and requires living higher up the rpm band to make things happen, you suck more gas.
Add this to the fact that no F-Car has an overdrive gear to select when you want to cruise, you are always spinning 5,000rpm + and youget 10mpg. ;)

YEa but still what kind of city driving is it? Overdrive or not. At 55mph in 6th you be reving at how many rpms?....Anybody have the gear ratios for the CS?
I am sure it is more than my 1200rpm at 55mph... I would guess about 4000rpm.
I am sure it is more than my 1200rpm at 55mph... I would guess about 4000rpm.
Beaing really basic here.... the car maxes out at about 183.... not redlined, though.
So if we have 8000revs = 180mph, then 60mph = 2670 revs

The point being? It still sucks gas like nobodies business, so fuel consumption cannot exactly be against the GT.
The point being? It still sucks gas like nobodies business, so fuel consumption cannot exactly be against the GT.
In fact.... why the fuck would anybody spend £50k + (let alone £130k) on a car and worry about the fuel consumption... it is almost as irrelevant as the no. of storage compartments in the Caterham 7 or some-such shit
Who even started the fuel consumption thing? .... bmw06m6 needs to stop talking crap
The only real factor I can say, from an enjoyment perspective where fuel consumption comes into play - has nothing to do with "if you can afford it" - it has to do with how far can you drive before you run out of gas.
I have been in the back woods and we have had to make an extra gas stop for the Viper guys. It sucks that once yougive it a bit of stick you are looking at about 120 mile tank range. I had the same problem with my RC45.
While other bikes were getting 230 odd miles on a tank, if I really gave the RC45 stick it's consumption would drop to about 15mpg... not that bad right? Well the problem is when you tank is only about 3.7 gallons hehe :P
There is nothing like being in the middle of nowhere and having your fuel light come on ;) hehe
Yeah... i see the point :D
Mind you.... with so much traffic, not to mention caravans (you know the type) going through the country (read- fun) roads, going flat out for a 10min period is a rare joy :|

I'm sure you "come from" the UK anyway :P
depends on the car :P
Too right... i think in a Ferrari you'd be hard pressed to get a decent rhythm, but in somethin slower..... like a 'Vette... even a Z06, you could probably nail some sections.
But not the corners

[EDIT]seems it was a joke.... car has been removed from the site, and a Rolls Royce "CanHardly" has replaced it. The RR can run on "Tesco Vegetable Oils"

WTF? Really? Thats horrible. How can it drop so much from the 360M? It only has 25 more bhp...how much of the engine did they change???
Direct from MSN Autos, the EPA figures for the 360M F1 coupe (They don't have the figures for the CS, but I'm sure there isn't too much difference)... 10city/16highway
Now the EPA has some funky testing techniques, most other testers (Consumer Reports for example) manage a lot better highway, but worse city, so maybe the real figures are closer to 20 on the highway and who knows in the city. Most cars designed for the American market, like say GM cars, know exactly how to get the best mpg from the city EPA tests (skip shift on the Vette for example), and Ferrari obviously doesn't care about that. So I'd guess that city figure is maybe a little on the bad side, unlike most of the American market cars, which are quite optimistic.
Here's an example: EPA mpg of Chevy Impala, 20/30...but Consumer Reports who actually drives the cars (quite vigorously I'd imagine, if they got 13mpg :P) instead of running them on some kind of dyno: 13/31...
Who knows (probably some 360CS owners ;)), but I can say for damn sure, on a track, the CS is not going to be pulling 7mpg, not when you take into consideration how often the guys were filling up at the Ferrari track day I went to. ;)

My guess is that JC is falling in love to the GT at the first sight, and sooner or later he will get bored with the car.. A guy like JC can just almost buy any car that shown at the Top Gear..
