View Full Version : Lotus Elise - pics from the afternoon drive

As some of you are aware I had the chance at another ride today - in a British car. It was a 2002 Lotus Elise (sorry TT, no lime green Exige) owned by a guy who asked if I wanted to take pics of it after seeing my Ferrari 328 story/pics.

Of course I gladly accepted and we arranged to meet up in Mosman Park (one of the richest suburbs in Perth) this afternoon. We drove around for just over an hour with a couple of stops to take pics - great way to spend the day. :D

Its a brilliant little car - doesn't have the exotic/exciting engine sound of a Ferrari but its agility on the road is stunning. Even the straight line acceleration is not shabby - around 5.5 seconds. The seats are not all that comfortable, and getting in and out is a bit of a hassle when your not used to it. :|

The guy uses it as a daily driver - it only stays in the garage when its raining.

Enough talk, here are some pics:

Nice car and great pics, Dingo

I had a ride in a 1998 Elise (118hp?), I didnt think it was very quick but the handling was amazing!

Thanks guys. :D

....Congrats dude, things are going pretty well on the car sighting /riding topic :D....

Yes I can't complain, funny how I get two rides in one week after pretty much nothing for the previous 23 years. :D

Nothing else lined up yet though (besides maybe another ride in the Elise) - I've had Italian and British so maybe a German beast would be nice next. :D

Amazing pics as always dude - are you a photographer by profession, because if not then you bloody well should be!

Some very nice pics there Dingo. Too bad you couldn't drive a bit yourself.

Yes it is, but understandable really. I wouldn't let some guy I just met drive my sports car either.

haha, no I am not - just a hobby (although it would be a pretty cool profession I think). Thanks for the compliment though. :D

Superb looking pics, Dingo! You pulled out a great job. The scenery looks awesome and the pics all look very good. But if I'd had to pick a winner it would be this one:

http://img139.exs.cx/img139/350/lotuselisemkii145no.th.jpg (http://img139.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img139&image=lotuselisemkii145no.jpg)

And I know what you mean by the hassle of getting in and out. I once tried to enter the driver's seat of an Elise wit the roof closed. Man was it hard to get in (I'm pretty tall). It took me a while before I had planted my but into the racing seats and had my feet on the pedals. Not to mind I bumped my head twice against the roof lining. But it's such a lovely car, I don't mind this little disadvantage :D

very nice pictures Dingo, but it looks pretty much like a base model Elise, unless he opted for those wheels, I think thats a standard model (definately the K-series engine).
I've been for a ride in a base model, a 111S, a 111R and an Exige (all S2 models), and I dont know how fast he took you, or if he did any bendy bits in the road, but i'm sure you enjoyed every minute of it

you seem to have similar 'taste' to me, the one you pick as your favourite always seems to be the same as mine.

Yes it is the base model S2 with the K-series (Rover) engine, and it was plenty fast enough for me - would love to try out the Exige though. :D

the proof is in my avatar, see that car, its fast, trust me
it wasnt actually that car I went in, I juat saw this one being delivered (its about the 4th or 5th Exige ever made, and I think I posted pictures of that car in the High Res pics section for Lotus cars, if I didnt, i meant to...), I went in a blue one driven by one of the Lotus development team who helped develop the car, and I didnt have a camera, but since I work in a Lotus dealership, i'm sure I can provide you with photo's of other Exige's and Elise's and Esprit's.... and besides, i'm still a newbie here :P

sorry Dingo to move off your thread of beautiful pictures though 8)

Cool pics, very nice camera angles. . . I like the ones that shoot down on the car. . . especially when it is in a turn. What kind of camera did you use?

LOL dude, I know what an Exige S2 is.. I have personal pics of it too but that's not what I mean :D sorry dingo, don't want to steal your topic, but Exige, in here we are used to ask for proof when somebody claim something.. of course in your case I am just overdoing, but this way you will learn :) basically on JW if you had a ride in a car and had no camera with you, it sorta doesn't count :P I had rides in Enzo, Diablos, Murcielago, Gallardo, 360s, SLK55, 996 and always had pics of them to go with the story :P (talk about bragging here :P).

The pics are SUPERB!

Saved many!

Maybe I have missed this, but how did you arange the ride? Forums?

Anything else coming? Like you said, maybe something german?

You'll see, word of a guy taking cool pics of cars in private photoshoots will spread and you'll be booked before you can say Ferrari. Well that's the plan, right?

Actually yes, today I had something VERY exciting confirmed!!!! I made a little metion of it a few weeks ago, but not sure if I should say too much yet. :?

For now I will say it involves going fast in a number of exotic cars - Italian, German, British and Japanese.

I might start a topic in the breaking news section at some stage - its planned to happen in 4 weeks from today.
