You never know Ford may pull thier finger out and fix it properly, and jeremy may get it back.... with compensation i would hope. Honestly If they can't even fit an alarm properly that doesn't say much for the company involved (not Ford directly) Maybe Jeremy is just too tempted by the 430 I would be, much better looking than the 360, and supposed to be a great drive. Notice they gave him a DB9 like he suggested on Top Gear on sunday too

I reckon he'll buy it back, he still seems to be attached to it.
One thing is for sure, if he doesnt buy it back, he'll be taking his £135,000 to the local ferrari dealership and buying an F430. A car that i imagine, wonjt go wrong quite so often!

This is why I don't like Benzes, Bimmers, Audis, and the like. Too many possible electronic gremlins.
My SRT has nada. Just a car alarm, front power windows, and a radio. Nothing to get in the way of the drive. Ford, take note. Oh, it has that nice whistlemaker in my avatar.
This is why I don't like Benzes, Bimmers, Audis, and the like. Too many possible electronic gremlins.
How can you compare these manufacturers to Ford
The problems with the car are with the alarm and immobiliser.... hardly cutting edge tech... virtually every new car has an immobiliser and alarm as standard. They don't go wrong, why should it be any different in the GT.
I'm glad Jeremy has got rid.... it's like James May said of the countach.... childhood dreams are best kept that way, because the reality is nowhere near your expectations.
I'm sure we will see Jeremy in a 430 very soon now 8)

Fuel injection is well tested, it's been around far longer than iDrive.
When absolutely everything inside the car is computer controlled, it's going to be a lot harder to repair than it would be a mechanical counterpart. The Prius is also going to have its share of problems down the road--in addition to those it already has. Think of the interdependence these electronics have. When your radio is controlled by a knob that is run electronically, you have a much greater problem when the electronics malfunction than if your radio or navigation were to malfunction.

Thamar, you're a Belgian. Shut the fuck up you savage fucking twat. Fuel injection is well tested, it's been around far longer than iDrive.
When absolutely everything inside the car is computer controlled, it's going to be a lot harder to repair than it would be a mechanical counterpart. The Prius is also going to have its share of problems down the road--in addition to those it already has.
You're also calling me an idiot when your command of the English language is startlingly weak. You have no idea how much effort it is taking me to restrain my temper. I'd rather not get banned though.
yeh and ECU's never have problems  funny i know plenty of people who have problems with them. No new or newish car will be without its problems. I also disagree with you saying his english is shit, you rude little asshole, just remember you speak american from what i've seen :P How is the fact he's belgium relevent, you sir are top class buffoon.
Thamar, you've not the right to be so uppity, your command of the language we're using is very weak. Fuel injection is well tested, it's been around far longer than iDrive.

I try not to subscribe to that speak "American" bullshit. I've enough people saying that to me in my own country. American is more a dialect than a language anyway, and even that is giving too much credence to it.

On topic again. It's really a shame Jezza's dream car was a pain in the arse. I think if its repaired properly we will buy it back. But this is really bad publicity for Ford, and I think most of the airing time of the news in this evenings Top Gear episode will be going again about his troubles with the GT.

Slut ass whore!!
What was this topic about again????
Also dangerously cool, BMW, and AUDI both have lower amounts of problems on their cars than american cars with no tech. Merc is getting there too but the build quality just isnt there yet.

This is truely sad news but what I don't get is I haven't heard of this problem with any of the US GT's I guess Saleen did a better job servicing them than Roush does. I would be very dissapointed if he bought an F430 I really doubt he would if anything I bet he would just keep the DB9 eventhough t sounds like he wants to keep the GT really. and for all you Ford hatters just realize all the GT problems are with non Ford parts.

I have a feeling he'll never trust an american car ever again. It's a mistake for them to give Jeremy a diesel. It's certainly a big mistake they didn't try harder, if Jeremy say the alarm almost ran off daily, they should just keep the car for a longer time and see if their fix is working or not.

what a shame. Maybe someone else could've waited until the car was ready, but it seems that JC will go for the ferrari 430 that he liked so much

I wouldnt be so sure. from what ive read in the latest TG mag, he seems to be quite set on the F430. I'll quote:
This month my long-awaited and much-delayed Ford GT arrived in Britain, which would certainly be a cause for much whooping and celebration. But unfortuenately, I went to see it just 24 hours after i drove Ferrari's new F430, which is undoubtedly the best car ever made.
You may find it terribly funny that ive publicly bought the wrong car.

I too get attached to cars, however, it takes more than a couple of months. I think Jeremy wants to have a Ford GT, just not that one. If I were him, I'd ask for anotherone and deal with the alarm later. Actually, he has a DB9, hell, I'd keep that!
DB9 surely isnt helping him think about the ford.

yes but have a car with a bad one and it pisses you off unbelievably, interupting your sleep etc. Also if you are constantly lied to by incompetent people who can't trace and fix a relatively simple sounding fault that is bound to put you off a car. I think that is the main crux of the issue. It may seem petty but spend that much money and you expect to be treated better than that.

What a shame for Clarkson..In this case I would say that the car itself isn't the point. It would be the same for any of us who finialy get the car that you've always wanted and dreamed of and then had horrible problems with it. He said that he actually cried when it left his house for the final time. I sincerely feel sorry for that man. It's the kind of loss that only a true auto entheusiast could ever understand.
Ford should be ashamed for allowing substandard parts to be used on their uber-spare-no-expense super car.
Poor Clarkson!

Ford should give second thought in extending the service of Roush. I didn't see Leno bitch about the car, so I assume his mechanic or Ford NA fixed his car alright. Is long distance call / emailing really that hard

You know, his fame, beside being a double-edged sword for Ford Europe with the return, helped him quite a bit. Getting a GT for MSRP is an amazing deal, especially with my dealership--stealership applies best here--trying to get $300K for it.
With how much he loves Ferrari, he should switch to it anyway, especially with the service base it has in Europe.
The GT is also, like he said, not designed for the tight confines of Europe's city roads. It's width, and gas guzzling tendencies cripple it. The Ferrari--though a gas pig as well--is designed for Europe, and suffers from fewer ailments. Ford rushed the GT, and it shows. I spoke with a dissatisfied GT owner who switched to a Chrysler SRT8 because his coolant line repeatedly came off.

This isn't the "post your ride" section, and I don't have pictures of his car, I haven't seen it. I trust someone that age wouldn't lie, especially seeing as the man still has a $50K car.

If I knew that JC was having problems... I would never give him a Diesel Focus as a replacement car for a GT!! And I would not want that kind of negative publicity!!
dangerously_cool
07-03-2005, 08:34 PM
I do. In fact I don't think I would have sold it. He claimed to have put the coolant line back himself, rather than taking it to the dealer for service. He may well have been one of those two room apartment, 140K car guys, the type who live in LA.
It also seems odd that someone who would be able to accumulate such a wealth as that would be so rash as to sell it after only tinkering with it himself.

Why did he have a stupid alarm anyway?
There are 28 GT's in the UK - is someone going to steal it and then use it?
The first thing to be removed should have been the alarm/immobilizer, it serves no purpose.
Besides that, he was just looking for a reason to ditch the car.

That's what insurance is for.
The professional car-jacker looking for a GT will have the alarm disabled in a flash so it's a moot point - the targetted car is gone no matter what.
All you need is the factory key/ignition system... screw the after market crap.

What a shame.. I agree with everyone above, this will reflect badly on ford regardless of it not technically being there fault but rather the fault of rousch who is servicing the unit and the maker of the aftermarket security system. That being said if Jermey really likes the car he should just remove the security system and install a different one.. I also wonder if he has an alterior motive.

His dad had a top model s-slass...don't know exactly which one but 500 at least. All the boxes on the options list were ticked as well...They had it shipped over from the US...given that germany is a ...little closer...i think you can guess the level of intelligence here  So his dad gets a call from the guys...twice...telling him that his car is being stolen. The guy thought it was a prank!! So he just hung up on them...

I don't think JC had an ulterior motive by getting rid of the GT. I would be pretty damn pissed if I just paid $150K for a car and the damn alarm started going off all the time, Yes, its an aftermarket alarm and all that stuff, and he could have taken it off blah blah, but that's how the car came. If something breaks, you normally take it to the dealer, and you'd expect that to fix the problem, especially considering this is not a cheap car. Why should he have to take the alarm off, even if its useless, it should be the dealer's responsibility to get the car working!
I might not go as far as he did, but I would still be damn pissed and certainly never buy another Ford product.
As to the F430 - I'm pretty sure that's just the usual JC way of saying "I like this car"; he tends to exaggerate things. :P
The fact he "returned it for a refund" proves he really wasn't that into keeping the car.

LOL typical, ford cant build a super car, even if it gets half a dozen other companies to do it for them
there are only a few good american cars the original GT40.. built in britain (to beat ferrari)
and the AC cobra... which was originaly made by the british company AC Ace then some guy in the US slapped a V8 in it
its like the best american VTOL aircraft.. the british harrier (is there a theme??)
i honestly think if jerremy really wanted it.. he'd save up the half million pounds and get an original GT40, atleast they worked
i only recently downloaded the clip of the GT (top gear clip) and the only thing that came to mind was the fact it was too bloody high.. it just looked completely out of proportion. that and why the hell make a new old car, especially when the old one won everything and was brilliant, thus you cant possibly re-capture it and your wasting your time trying. that and it shows that ford isnt very innovative in car aesthetics
