ha, the first computers were even bigger then that! :wink:

My Dad was a programmer back in the 60's/70's and he still has some images of the computers that filled entire rooms back then... :shock:

They still use computers like that in parts of West Texas, and Cornwall, UK :lol:

I've personally seen the first popular computer in the world. At one point, I worked with the successor company to Spurry, creator of Univac. They had it in a marketing room onsite. It was pretty interesting.

Univac frame/ console / tape drives:

the first computers didnt even have a monitor, they had printers constantly printing everything the computer was doing, and hte ppl using the machine would read these endless pages of paper...

Actually thats incorrect.. Printers were nowhere near the begining.. See the picture I gave you above.. It was the third created computer.. It worked by actually lighting a series of vacuum tubes which you read.. In otherwords no monitor, they had a series of lights you interpret. The console in terms of pic I gave you is a series of lights, there is no monitor.

Well one version of it predicted the winner of the election between nixon and kennedy.. Though computing wise its on par with a extremely basic calulator.

I remember playing as a kid in some of intel and ibms mainframe rooms that looked just like those pics. My father used to do upgrades on those machines for customers. Can you imagine upgrading your machine by 256kb for 500000 dollars. Amazing what Ibm used to get for that lol. So a company called EMC came along and under cut IBM by 250000 and made money hand over fist. History lesson over teehee.
