Damn, that's so sad, even when you try to help, you don't. Just makes the gap bigger between the few rich and the majority poor
Makes me think if I will help next time a tsunami or whatever hits :?

So much money donated, yet they didn't make the most of it.Helping the poorest should be a priority :( And I wonder how much of the money raised stayed within the borders of the donating country...there were bound to be scams.

too many people suffered from the tsunami but then not all of them got the donated money...it's all politic stuff

This is not surprising at all. And that's the way it should be. It's pretty damn obvious that nobody gives a fuck about the poor. All these donations were made by governments in order to protect their investments. The tsunami money did go to the right people. Those of you who thought it will go to the poor were day-dreaming.

that's some pretty fucked up stuff right there. sure it was bound to happen, but i was hoping that people would stop being greedy in a situation such as this, and help those who truly needed it :(
wonder how pissed off people who donated millions of $ are (such as M.Schumacher)..

this things always happen, rich people have privileges and the government cares more about them than for the poor people.

just to play devil's advocate for a sec...
In a typical country, the richest the 1% or so of the population will pay something like 20% of the taxes, if the tax system is staggered....so maybe the priorities of the government aren't so far off base

yeah but the richest 1% also has (just guessing) about 10% of the money, so its not like they really need the government's care to be able to feed their children...(i can see this turning into a discussion about political systems again)

well this is ot but......if a businessman payes enormous taxes regularly and suddenly is the victim of a disaster and all his money was invested in his property, as the government, who would you help, the businessman, or a peasant who has never earned enough money to be taxed?

^^you have a point there, but it wasn't the government who funded the sum. It was charities from abroad and wouldn't give a f**k about the financial situation of victim ?? I'm lousy in economics so correct me if I'm wrong :D

I didn't donate $100 to help rebuild some muthafuckas beach front hotel... I donated $100 to help rebuild the huts and lives of the poorest victims.

Sucker! You could've bought gas to drive the 'Vette for 10 km with that money.

Actualy the money went to a local facility that bought materials and supplies that would have been used in the first month or so.
I am always skeptical about sending cash to the locals.. ;)
It's always a case that the cash that pours in ater the fact gets snatched up by the corrupt local officials.
Thailand and many other countries in that region were riddled with corruption, dishonesty and an extreme class system befor ethe tsunamis. what made people think that miraculously all vestiges of the old corruption would vanish after.
We saw people faking missing kids the day after just to collect cash.
These are the same countries that allow slave trade, sex trade and other inhumane practices.
But at least we (the developed nations) tried.
