BMW acquires majority interest in Sauber

I hope this doesn't result in Williams becoming a shit team in coming seasons, since Webber signed with them in hope of a championship not knowing they would split (potentially anyway) with BMW after one season. :(

Dingo, I wouldn't worry too much. BMW engines aren't what they used to be anyway... They were only clearly better in 2001 and 2002; after that, they dropped the ball. And even when they had the most powerful engines, reliability wasn't exacly top notch.

Williams still has plenty of options. :D

It's always hard to say who's the best, since we don't know the exact numbers.

But if you're talking just about power then BMW isn't in a bad position I guess; but still, nowhere near the superiorty they had in 2001 (remember the Hockenheim GP?) . Now, according to most experts, it's Toyota, Honda and Ferrari who have the most powerful engines. Toyota and Ferrari being the best overall, since Honda has "some" reliability issues.

But what happened this year is that Renault, Mercedes and Cosworth have improved their game. Maybe that's why BMW doesn't stand out so much anymore. :)

Anyway, if I had to choose one to put on my F1 car I'd go for either Toyota or Ferrari, that's for sure.

Toyota? They have their own team... so if they accept the role of "support" team just what Sauber did with Ferrari... then ok... but I think it's quite impossible...

I wouldn't say that Ferrai is impossible... Ferrari has a good relationship with Frank Williams. But yeah, it's not likely to happen.

Toyota aren't happy with Jordan, but Cosworth is still their best shot.

Cosworth have one of the best engines right now. And they're still improving - at Indy, they brought a new engine spec, with 30(!) more hp.


Anyway, they have more things to worry besides the engine... Their main problem with this, I think will be money, since now they'll have to pay for the engines again. :|

I don't know if Sauber will lost the name. May be they do the same as Honda and BAR...

On the other hand, the relationship between Williams and BMW hasn't been good lately... so I'm sure they'll lost the BMW engines for the 2006 season... :?

It's a down fall for Williams ever since their introduction of their "radical" front design last year. If Williams could secure an engine deal with Toyota, there might be a chance that they could still perform (but given that Toyota is trying to fight for the top now, I don't see the reason why they would wanna help out Williams)

I think BMW has a good chance at overcoming their occasional reliability issues. it seems like all their problems happen during the second race. so we;l see if they can get it fixed in the second half of the season. If not, winter testing should finish off what they need.

This was the best move BMW could have made though. Being able to utilize everything can should put them a little higher on the grid. Ferrari has proven that an in-house team can sit at the top the grid, so hopefully this will pay off for them next year :crosses fingers:

Yep, while with BMW, only in 2003 Williams had a good chassis. And even then, they didn't win a thing... :|
