Longest day of the year? It seems like that to me - It's 1034am and I'm tired already!

^ As close to the equator as I am now, there isn't a great deal of difference between the summer and winter daylight times, a couple of hours each way at the start and end of the day perhaps.

In the UK it's a lot more noticeable - the day can end at 5pm or 930-10pm in winter and summer respectively.

I'd love to visit Scandinavia in the summer and see a 22hour long day (or whatever many hours it is)

How far north do you have to go to experience a 24 hours sunlight day?

Where are you that is close to the equator?

Texas, ok it's not that close, but much closer than the UK or Finland...

Uhh yeah I was going to say... Texas is north of the tropic of cancer!! not close at all. Now Singapore, that is close to the equator!

I dont envy you mojo, but I do know what it is like to drive to work in the dark and drive home again in the dark when working long hours in the winter when I lived in the UK and I am sure I'm not the only one. I'd be really interested in seeing some night-time pictures of the 'dim' sky/horizon if you want to take some and post them?

This is pretty cool -
http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/image/0506/earthterminator_iss002_c1.jpg
Explanation: No sudden, sharp boundary marks the passage of day into night in this gorgeous view of ocean and clouds over our fair planet Earth. Instead, the shadow line or terminator is diffuse and shows the gradual transition to darkness we experience as twilight. With the Sun illuminating the scene from the right, the cloud tops reflect gently reddened sunlight filtered through the dusty troposphere, the lowest layer of the planet's nurturing atmosphere. A clear high altitude layer, visible along the dayside's upper edge, scatters blue sunlight and fades into the blackness of space. This picture actually is a single digital photograph taken in June of 2001 from the International Space Station orbiting at an altitude of 211 nautical miles.

Thanks for the pictures mojo. So with the bridge pictures, are you saying that is how dark it gets all night? Wow, that's really quite bright for 'after sunset'. I have never been able to sleep unless it is dark so I would really struggle with being able to sleep!!!

When my wife and I return to the UK next year we are going to do a tour of the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. My wife has Danish and Dutch friends, and no doubt I could meet with some of the JW members for a beer if we pass close by anyone...

There is a very slim chance that I might be moving to Linkoping, Sweden for my next assignment, but I haven't looked at the map and do not know how far north it is...
