View Full Version : New BMW models: 125i, 130i, 335d and 335i engine specs
125i is with 2,5-Liter-inline-6 with 218 HP and 250 Nm torque, close numbers after the three-litre six cylinder 130i with 258 HP.
The 3-series-Limousine will accommodate in the future also one 3liter Biturbo Diesel with 272 HP and 560 Nm as 335d. On the Benzin is used a likewise charged three-litre petrol engine with approximately 330 HP as 335i. Both motors can be ordered with the optional all-wheel drive combined and named as the 335xd and 335xi.
Available both machines are later also in the Touring and in the Coupe Cabrio, where they will be likewise optional to have as all wheel variants. A rounding downward receives the Touring Motor program with that to 129 HP strong 118i as well as the 118d - a two-litre Diesel from the 320d debuted in the autumn already in the sedan - as basis Diesel. Only the Coupe Cabrio must do without these basis engines. Here the 320i and the 320d form the entrance motorizing.

the turbo idea doesnt make me quite happy, i prefer NA engines so much, and from BMW a bit more, why did they go to turbo ???

i love BMW's N/A and their response but the car will be so lazy in low revs with a Turbo :?

They've already solved that problem using two sequential turbos. One small one that starts from the bottom of the rev range, and then a big one that kicks in when the little one is about to peak.
What's interesting is the all-wheel drive option. I like the idea of that. I'm sure it's going to be based off the X3 (since the X3 uses the same chassis as the new 3 series IIRC), so it's quite obvious that the road bias is going to be present, but it will be bloody excellent.
3series limousine means just sedan, like i said before, it is just translation from deutch.

I hope those lovely diesels land on local soil. Farking BMW Phil is just so lame.
evoWALO have you watched latest Top Gear TV-rpogram. Richard Hammond seemed to like 320D. It looks quite boring, but it is still the driving machine, and 0-100km/h 8.1s is not bad at all.

The 335d/i is quite new to me... but the 130i must be insane. Strange though that BMW is gonna use a turbo petrol engine... Have they EVER used a turbo for one of their street petrol cars? I canīt remember...

I believe so, South African market 7 series if I am correct? 745i? RC?
Wasn't there a 2002 Turbo as well?

Also watched Plato's review. BMW still wont bring it in... /lame
Maybe a high end diesel like the 335d will be offered. The way petrol's being priced you may want to check out a diesel as your next car.
I have driven 120d and it was very nice and felt well made. And with bigger engine, this is going to be very fun car.

You rang? ;)
Nope - for the South African 745i we had the engine straight from the M1 - to compete against the 3 litre Alfa GTV6 and the 5 litre V8 Sierra. I think the 2.2 litre 5 cylinder Audi 100 Quattro sedan also used to mix it up with those guys - that was a freaking insane show to behold... a chirping, shreiking turbo charged, 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel drifting, 4 door Audi sedan being chased down by a sideways slung V8 Ford Sierra with a 3 litre Alfa screaming up - and then in the background this rather absurd sight - a stately BMW 745i (if you can call slammed, racing slicks and fender flares stately) looking like pure evil (you know - the classic BMW furrowed eye brow look)waiting for an opening.
There was however rather bland and boring Euro and US E30 M3 that was a turbo 4 - at the same time as we had the rabid 333i n/a straight six and n/a straight 6 M3.

Where the hell did I get the idea there was once a 7er turbo from then? :?
I am 99.9% certain the Euro and US E30 M3 was n/a though, 2.3 4 cylinder IIRC.

In europe there was a 745i in the 80's with a turbo (252hp and 380Nm).
2002tii and 2002 Turbo had a turbo.

That Biturbo 335d sounds prety nice to me :o
I've heard about a 325d too. It will have something like 200bhp, and uses the same biturbo technology
It looks like the biturbo ( or even triturbo ) will be the future for the Diesel engines.
Pay atention to the black smoke

The BMW 2002 Turbo was the first massive production car that used turbocharger!..
There has been other turboed mass produced cars before 2002turbo, even in the US too. I think Corvair used to be turbo and afaik Buick Regal was first _good_ US car with turbo. Saab also had 99Turbo and 930 Porsches are quite old too.

I think this is what started Bmw turbo era. And it was before M1, the simply named concept; Bmw Turbo. Then there came 2002turbo and in the racing the famous and succesful racers based on E21 3-series, with huge turboes.
There used to be also 745, that was indeed turboed inline-6. And the model number came from racing, turboed displacement had a multiplying factor compared to NA race engines.

335i is the same base engine with same displacement as in 330i, but with turbo(es), same goes for 335D, it is same engine, also in displacement, as in 330D, but with second turbo.
Z4 M will get the engine from E46 3-series, with around 340hp, because the new V8 canīt fit in the engine bay, it is not wide enough. E90 M however, will get 4-liter V8 with around 400hp. Donīt know what is the point of having new v8, because there is already 405hp version of the M3 inline-6, with just 3.4liter displacement, and NA.

There were turbo charged commercial vehicles in the 1930's - I think the Corvair (and Oldsmobile) may have pioneered passenger car turboing.
I think the 2002 Turbo "prototypes" raced as early as 1969 - so the Turbo Comcept debuting in 1972 was a late comer to the party ;)

Ive read that the 2002 Turbo was the first massive prod. car that used turbocharger...in a successfull way and in the modern era I suppose from what u say guys..
RC45, i said that started Bmw Turbo concept started turbo era for BMW, not the whole turbo era.
And 1930 the cars were not turbocharged, they were Supercharged, completely different thing. Turbos take their running power from exhaust. Superchargers are driven straight from engine speed.
There was also VW beetles supercharged, straight from the factory, but like i said before, we were talking about turbocharging, not SC engines.

Well - the 2002 racing cars ran turbos as early as 1969 is what I understand - and the concept is a 1972 car.

While I appreciate the lesson in forced induction nomenclature, I am rather well versed in the variations of compressing the intake charge. ;)
You will however be pleased to know that although super charging was quite popular in the "between war" years - turbo charging also had a strong following and presence.
In particular it was Sauer, the Swiss or German producer of commercial vehicles that had a rather succeful range of turbo charged vehicles in the 1930's as far as I recall.
There was also VW beetles supercharged, straight from the factory, but like i said before, we were talking about turbocharging, not SC engines.
Again - thanks for the lesson ;)
But I am almost certain that the first real commercial passenger car success was the Benz 300D.. *shrug*

Lol so I was correct from the start since we are talking about TURBOchargers! I remembered it very clearly because when I first read it it made a huge impression to me since I knew that BMW are well known for their NA engines..

3 series limosine?
Yeah, basically another teminology for 4 Door/Saloon.
the turbo idea doesnt make me quite happy, i prefer NA engines so much, and from BMW a bit more, why did they go to turbo ???
330 HP will slot it right in between the 330i and the new M3. Good segmentation of the market.
Only way to go is with a Turbo, this horsepower war keeps on escalating.
I wonder if it is going to compromise driving charactistics.
Yeah, the twin turbo idea (no completely new by the way) does solve the low end problem, but it still does not offer the same response as an NA engine.
We'll see. . . at least BMW is taking the initiative to step it up again.

Z4 M will get the engine from E46 3-series, with around 340hp, because the new V8 canīt fit in the engine bay, it is not wide enough.
Are you sure about this?
Hartge are using the V8 engine from M5 E39 in both Z4 and 1-series.
