View Full Version : C6 Z06 runs 7:40 at Nurburgring...

The C6 Z06 has been shipped to Germany for some Nurburgring testing... :)

Remember, the C5 Z06 pulled of a 7m56s lap.

You need huge horse power (like a CGT) to eat up DottingerHohe, the long back straight... you are on full throttle for about a minute (if I remember correctly) so if you cannot run up to a huge top speed and hold it all the way from Galgenkopf to past Tiergarten, you can see a very fast lap become a mediocre lap quite easily - witness the results of the Exige and Elise that tear up the mountain seciton, but then give away 20 seconds as they run down the endless straight at 150mph max speed.

That being said, we know the C6 Z06 will at least match (hopefully beat) the C5 Z06 through the most challenging twisty bits, like holding good speed through the Hocheichen and Hatzenbach complexes and being able to carry a fast speed up and through Flugplatz.

This will set the C6 up for a good run down the hill to Schwedenkreuz.

Again - we are confident the C6 Z will hold it's own in a 1G+ attack on Aremburg and allow a good solid charge down Fuchsrohre.

For sure the challange of getting through Adenauer-Forst quickly and smoothly is easily done - knowing how well the C5 Z managed it - The run from Metgesfeld to Bergwerk will be the same at least - hopefully a good 2 seconds quicker (gaining at each turn and on each straight through the section).

The extra 100hp for sure will allow the C6 Z to pull some serious speed up the mountain from Kesselchen, carry a good head of steam up to and through Angst Kurve - and again the chassis will be up to quickly getting from the Karussell through Hohe-Acht and on to Wipperman in a good time.

The run from Eschbach, down Pflanzgarten I and II up to Schwalbenschwanz can be quickly done if you have a great chassis and immense power on tap - something we know the C6 Z posses.

Based on an assumption that the numbers published everywhere have some basis in fact - and looking at the extra horspower and better chassis - I estimate the C6 Z06 will be 1 full second ahead of the C5 by Aremburg, and have shaved another second by Kallenhard.

Add to this the 2 seconds gained from Metzgesfeld to Bergwerk - and another 3 seconds by the time they reach the Karussell.

I will say another 3 seconds won from Karussell to Kleiner Karussell - and another 4 seconds as the C6 Z reaches 190mph down Dottinger-Hohe, which helps shave another 1 second off by the time they get back to T13.

That's abotu 15 seconds quicker. 7m41s by my reconing.

However, I am assuing that the C6 Z is an incremental ratchet up in the handling department from the C5 Z - if the C6 Z is really a great leap in chassis tuning, then you could see it carrying significantly more speed through some of the more technically complex sections - resulting in far greater straightaway speeds - as it would be exiting turns at higher speeds, with 100hp more on tap.

But I don't see the C6 Z pulling off a Carrera GT style brute force lap - because we don't have the HP to run 200mph down Dottinger-Hohe - or the chassis to run 170mph down Fuchsrohre or Pflanzgarten).

Any how, I wrote way more than I intended when I decided 7m41s is going to be my estimate. :)

Lets see what Sportauto can do. I know Sportauto drove the new Corvette around hockenheim, the result will be shown in 3 weeks.

RC45 is there a link for this info?

WHich info? They (GM) haven't run the C6 Z06 round the 'Ring yet, but they did ship the cars out 2 weeks ago.

And now that we won Le Mans, they will just want gloat any chance they get... ;)

I have just concluded some very scientific calculations and have a number for the C6 Z06.

If the runflats have more grip than the GY Eagle F1's then I am predicting 7m40s flat for the C6 Z06.

The basis for my predictions are as follows:

With a 405hp, stock tyre (SM), stock suspension, 6600rpm redline Z06 in GT4 I lapped 7m56s.

I then created a C6 Z06 mule. 504hp, stock but softer tyre(SS), sport suspension (for height adjustability), 6600rpm (I still need to find a mod combo that will give me 7000rpm redline) and upgraded brakes.

This mule is easily lapped in 7m45s - and with the extra 400rpm in each gear will no doubt make up 5 seconds over the entire lap (if not more).

I left the weight the same (because the cars do weigh the same) and remember the FRC profile is not as stable or slippery as the Coupe profile.

All in all IF the new runflat tyres have more grip than the current tyres 7m40s is very very possible - if however these run flats are the same or less grippy, what I experienced was a car that was over powering it's tyres ate any and every turn.

So - place your bets... :P

Mine is for 7m40s

Not a chance - seeing a practicle example of what 100 extra hp, better brakes and stickier tyres does shows that with that improvement making up 16 seconds on the lap is not that hard.

Any way - I stick to my prediction and offer my proof.. :P

So based on your research in GT4 you think it will do 7:40....LMAO  snicker snicker.

I think the C6 Z will be hard pressed to beat the old GT2 Porsche's number of 7:44. I dont know where you even begin to mention the CGT in this comparison. It will be more comparable to the GT2 times. It will no know doubt be faster than the old Z.

If it does do a 7:40 or better like you predict it would be nothing short of incredible, and may put an end to the "American cars a straight line cars" bs.

BTW - I have yet to be wrong with any prediction made were GT4 has been used to validate a theory. SO make of it as you will.

I bet if Porsche or Ferrari showed up with a car that had 100 extra horse power, more refined chassis and better brakes and tyres than the previous model, you and everyone else would have no problem accepting an improvement.

BTW do you even know how much track distance is represented by 5 second?

If the test is conducted from the T13 start/finish, then 5 seconds clock time translates to about 15 car lengths of track distance (from the last cornet to the start finish line.

If it does do a 7:40 or better like you predict it would be nothing short of incredible, and may put an end to the "American cars a straight line cars" bs.
Typical cockassed bias showing through here, :)

The current car is already faster than a whole bunch of cars - including matching the 360CS time - yet gets no credit for being as good as it is.

Believe what you will - I know I will be laughing at and not with a lot of disbelievers... ;) :P

[edit] And just like you really don't rely on a dyno to provide final numbers, but rather as a tool to quantify and validate improvements - I am using GT4 as a mechanism to quantify and validate the impact certain material improvements can have.

As it is we know the current cars results - we know the current car's -- we also now the new cars specs and are able quantify these deltas. The only question remaining is how do these changes translate into improvements.

This method is as good as any other laymen's method you can think of - and in fact may even be better than a pure speculative guess :P

What did the Enzo Ferrari do around the ring?

For fear of embarrassment and ridicule, Ferrari declined to offer any official timed lap results - it is well known that they do not like to be "compared to other cars". ;)

It seems Porsche and now GM are the only 2 manufacturers that have been willing to provide official numbers.

The rest are all relying on the likes SportAuto and AutCar etc.

It will be interesting to see what it finally does put down, and hopefully they will mount a camera inside the car, Best Motoring style for us, so we can see how the lap goes.

Does anyone know if the SRT-10 has been run at Nordschleife by any of the German mags, and what time it put down if so?

I think the Porsche GT2 is an excellent car to compare it to, they both have similar power (I'm sure the GT2 was under-rated from the factory with '456hp' and then '483hp' :P) and similar weight. The Porsche would probably be at a slight advantage in terms of low speed grip, braking and overall chasis tuning, since Nordschleife is basically Porsche's test track, and they have way more experience than Chevy there. The C6 Z will probably make up some time on the GT2 on the long straight sections, and may have better tires and more friendly handling so I'm guessing almost exactly the same as the GT2, maybe a little bit faster.

I don't think I can go all the way down to 7:40 with RC...but 7:44 or so sounds good to me. :D

7.47 is the time I predict, no way 7.40, 100hp and some improvements won't be enough. But I really would like the C6 Z06 to do a better time, it would certainly justify its higher price and make the other carmakers do something about their 'bang for buck' policy. So go Vette go 8)
Hope to see some vids of the monster hammering down the N-R :)

Ferrari doesnt need laptimes to sell cars.

If in that time you haven't realized that I am one of the more realistic, honest and pragmatic folks who posts on this site, you are rather inobservant.

I am also far more realistic about this or any cars performance, than most visitors on the entire Internet, let alone just this website and I do not lightly make any claim.

I am also the first person in line to criticize the Corvette on all fronts, so nice attempt to "corner me" - but you need to try a lot harder.

BTW - as explained the 7m45s does NOT take into account the advantage of spinning an extra 400rpm in every gear including being able to run up to a higher speed down the straight away.

As long as the new RunFlat tyres have an improvement in grip over the GoodYear SC F1's then lopping the last 4 seconds off the time is simply a matter of mashing the gas pedal down the back straight.

I don't know if this would screw things up, but what about just changing the gearbox ratios so the 500hp mule can go a little faster in each gear...doesn't revving higher pretty much have the same effect as longer gear ratios or am I wrong? Also, I'm sure they will change the ratios from the C5 Z, so if those are the ones your using in GT4, then wouldn't that put an effect on the lap time...?

Ah well, whatever, we need to stay on topic, because this is interesting and we should see more discussion on what people think it will run, not why people like or don't like the Vette, blah blah etc. :P

/\/\/\ Whats the top speed differene between the C6 and C5 zo6?

RC45
06-24-2005, 07:56 PM
About 20mph +

The C5 Z06 will pull 6600rpm in 5th gear, 173/4/5mph, 6th gear is an over drive and you lose speed.

The C6 Z06 with 100 more HP will surely pull 7000rpm in 5th gear (which is a little taller - as the C6 Z supposedly receives the slightly higher ratio (the "normal" 6 speed ratios) transmission.

Combine the 7000rpm redline and the slightly taller gearing (same rear end ratio) will surely run mid 190 mph.

Every 500hp C5 (modded cars) already pulls mid 190mph in 5th gear.

As it is, nobody has been able to quantify in laymen's terms the impact an extra 100hp, better brakes, and extra 400rpm and supposedly better tyres would have.

So I set off to try and practically demonstrate what the effect might be. :)

Of course I well aware of the fact that as good as GT4 is they may not be correctly simulating the added heat generated by the new bigger brakes and extra power and a myriad other issues that may arrise when the actual car shows up. :)

Nothing to teach me there - but this is ONE way to practically deomonstrate what COULD be possible.

Again - very fucking presumptive of someone who apparently not only doesn't post, but doesn't frequent the forums regularly either.

Why I didn't rebutt each of your illinformed comments/replys?

Because I am sick and tired of threads being polluted with 40% of the replies being factual rebuttels to the other 40% of the numerous urban legend fueled fantasies and common misconceptions - meaning one has to filter through this 80% crap to get to the 20% posts that are the actual debate with valid comment and discussion.

And with topics about the Corvette this is a HUGELY common occurance, and it get very tiresome.

Relax....If you read my post you will see we're not in total disagreement with each other. We both believe there will be a marked improvement with this new Vette. Only difference between us is I dont have Vette-itis.

I surely don't have Vette-itis - I have just been around enough Z06's, Vipers (modded and stock) and Porkers and F-Cars (you think I don't know and associate with folks who are avid fans of the "other cars"?) and am comfortable enought ot state thngs with confidence.

As I say, I am also a realist and don't expect the laws of physics to be repealed when the Corvette goes out on the track (or street) and somehow become an Enzo or Macca F1 or Carrera GT - I really do understand and accept all the limitation.

But at the same time - when I tell people straight up that, for example, a Z06 can run and gun and lap with a Ferrari 360CS wheel to wheel - I get laughter - until the numbers began to trickle into the public - but these things were known by Z06 folks but not accepted because urban legend and myth says that the C5 Z06 must be a pile of shit and Jeremy Clarkson and my uncle Fester say so.

All gets quite tiring when one just wants to share/discuss and otherwise interact without having to haul out the goddamned encyclopedia of proof every single thread.

Jeaulous? I think not - I don't like the cars coupe profile and as a new car it is far more expensive than I want to spend on something that's gonna wear out.

As a used car in a number of years it would be a decent purchase just for the performance, but I do not like how it looks.

Had the C6 Z06 been a fixed roof coupe I would all over it. It isn't so I'm not.

The truth is that the C5 Z06 is a very accomplished car that won't suddenly slow down when the C6 Z06 arrives - in the mean time I am far from "hoping it performs poorly" - considering I and many others are watch the C6 Z06 wheels a brakes with great interest as they be great upgardes for our C5 Z's.

I am not a "must get the newest fad to stay cool" type of person. And unless the C6 Z06 does post a significant improvement (which it would seem it will be capable of) it will be a case of “not by enough to matter”. Why would any one pay a $20 to $30,000 premium just to get a newer car that as only an incremental improvement?

Performance wise it should be a great leap forward - or not ;)

Ahhh.. You are too good to be jealous. Check.

As an owner of any current performance item (car, bike, PC, camera etc) you have to be realistic and realise that there is always going to be a newer, better, bigger, faster and sometimes even cheaper model coming along.

Some people have a personality that always need to brandish and showoff the latest and newest etc as justification of sel worth - others of us are not like that.

Just because you don't chase after the latest and greatest does not mean you "are too good" for the latest edition - it just means you don't want it.

Just so everyone understands what RC45 just said…

The new 2006 Z06 will become a good car to buy when it becomes used and inferior to the next “Top Vette” model….

Like RC’s C5 is now to the 2006 Z06….

Well that's because the two others are well known, and bring out extremer models out, when they upgrade a current top of the line car, they REALLY upgrade the car.
It has to do with the fact that they have more "history" and expertise. Corvette on the other hand just has started with the C5 Z06 and now the C6 Z06, and I really can't see that it will improve as you think it will. Maybe the C7 Z06 will be the epitomy of the Vette's performance, well only if it stays good bang for buck, if not, then I would prefer to go for the carmakers with more exciting history and name.
So RC45 to your unbelief, I would go crazy of joy if the Vette's are as good/better than the european counterparts, 'cause we pay our asses off to buy them :P

Where the Vette or american models have to improve, is better interior and better handling, then I would definitely would buy one, just to hear that big ass engine rumble and scare little children and even grown ups :P

The C5 Z06 had an MSRP of $51K - but after a number of years and softening car market and dealer/manufacturer discounts, you could buy a brand new Z06 out the door for $42K - and many, many people did.

Add to that fact that you can buy a low mileage C5 Z06 for $35K - and the $35K used car is not slower or inferior to the first new ones selling at $51K or the other discounted ones selling for $45K.

I paid $38K for my car - so based on that, the $65K (not including tax, title and dealer MARKUP for a new flashy model), the difference in the car is not worth $30K to me.

This is how my "value" formula is arrived at :)

On paper the C6 Z06 looks good, hopefully the car will deliver the expected performance goods - but for me (and many other Z06 owners) - unless we have money to simply piss away or "must have the shiny new one" my car is very easily brought up to the C6 Z06 spec levels for far less than $30K. To put it into perspective the LS6 can - today, June 25 2005 be taken from 385/405 crank HP to 500 crank HP for about $3800.00 - (Tax and labour included) - I have the quote from MTI and am seriously considering it. The other upgrades (brakes, wheels tyres etc are a simple swap and some of us are looking on intently waiting)

Besides throwing $65K + Tax + Markup = $75-$80K at a C6 Z06 when I am not that attracted to the looks really makes no sense - no sense at all.

Now we know based on historical GM value, the car will first carry a dealer markup of +$20K or more as dealers try to rape people (see Ford GT) - then very few will be sold to wealthiest "Must hve it now" buyers - then the market will soften as the first used cars start to appear and the GM dealers need to start moving the inventories.

Prices will again approach $65K and before long the discounts will start showing up.

So while the sticker may be $65K, with in 18 months they will be moving out the door at closer to $60K because people will just walk from deals.

And then the first used cars will start showing up and those prices will be in the mid $50K's and the downward trend will begin.

At those values, the C6 Z06 then makes sense to the modestly budgeted people.

But until then, the car carries as much appeal as a Porsche GT3- great car, awesome package, looks are ok, but unless you piss money, whats the attraction to upgrade? ;)

Well "we" have a longer history than even the 911.. ;) and sure - for the years after 1972, the Vette pretty much softened up and became a cruiser (except for the few people who raced them and tthen did their own mods).

Maybe the C7 Z06 will be the epitomy of the Vette's performance, well only if it stays good bang for buck, if not, then I would prefer to go for the carmakers with more exciting history and name.

Well - I for one still think interiors are over rated - they are importan to a point, but don't bother me when I am out driving. I don't sit at the stop light going "damn this interior sucks" - and nor would I drive aropund in my LexaBMBenzerorscherrari going "oooohhh--this leather interior makes me horney -- I am so in love with my DVD setup" :P

We already have handleing that is the same as the Porker 911TT/GT3 and the F360CS, yet still get no recognition ;) Are we going to have to humiliate the F430 just to get your attention ? :)

Like me for instance, if I had the money now, I would buy the SLR in a second, even if I know other supercars are "better".

But your problem RC45 is that your are of opinion that somehow you have to prove that american cars are better than european cars, and yes I know that there are european members that do the same, it will stay an endless pointless discussion if you ask me

we are comparing msrp to msrp, used prices to used prices. so most of your argument is worthless. its 51000 to 65000 and your 38000 to whatever the used c6 z06s WILL be. using the 30k difference of a used car to one fresh off the showroom floor is just plain wrong. so i basically disregarded teh bulk of your post after reading that (though i did read it). anyway, if i ever buy one of these it will be a used one. but dont compare apples to oranges. also, 20k seems way overboard, there are many dealerships across the nation that have promised to sell at msrp, if a customer is dumb enough to buy one for 20k over, he's a retard, not an example what happens most of the time. also, dont call the act of spending money on a new car "pissing it away" just bc you bought the same car after it had been owned for a smaller sum. that just shows a lot of bias.

This is an example of a response I will respond to - as it is incorrect because the poster (you) is offering an opinion that is NOT based on experiences with the topic.

I am offering the comparisons and explanation I am for the benefit of people who are wanting to listen and learn - not just be counter-point for arguments purposes.

The above is the facts of the marketplace - This is the reality experience by the Corvette customer base every year - not speculation - but fact. Now if this differs to your opinion, then fine :) - but as an active memebr of the Corvette community I have observed a slightly different reality :P ;)

After the first year hype very few cars get sold for MSRP so it is a VERY valid comparison point - very valid.

anyway, if i ever buy one of these it will be a used one. but dont compare apples to oranges. also, 20k seems way overboard, there are many dealerships across the nation that have promised to sell at msrp, if a customer is dumb enough to buy one for 20k over, he's a retard, not an example what happens most of the time. also, dont call the act of spending money on a new car "pissing it away" just bc you bought the same car after it had been owned for a smaller sum. that just shows a lot of bias.
It is not an "apples oranges" comparison because the price people pays varies from dealership to dealership let alone region to region.

Within the last few months some of the last few brand new C5 Z06's have been sold - they carried MSRP's of $51K + dealer markup but all sold for closer to $45K - so even in that comparison the newly announce price of $65K + opitions + tax + title + dealer markup does make the comparison valid.

Sticker price is like dyno numbers - great for bench racing but of little value in real life.

And with regard to the purchase of new car being "pissing money away" - that's eactly wha it is - the new car is not an investment, and represents a significant dran on the acerage persons finances and unless it simply provides basic transportation offers no poitive contirbution to your financial well being. :)

Once you have been supporting yourself out in the big bad orld for 10 or 15 yeares paying your way, you get to realize that the "smell of new car" is small consolation when compared what the $15, $20 or $35K purcahse could have done for your wealth in terms of Microsoft or IBM shares ;)

A new car is the single biggest way we piss out money away ;)

Buying a Corvette (especially a Z06) brand new is about the dumbest thing someone could ever do. The depreciation after, well, less than 1 year is horrific. Getting one second hand is always the way to go.

My wife to be just bought a new car and the only reason I didn't go absolutely crazy pissed off is because she got it for MSRP with 0% APR. So I wasn't too ticked off, but I still wans't happy.

Like RC said somewhere in one of his posts (I think), It's always better to buy a car that's a year or two old. Let the original owner take the depreciation hit and that way you're getting the exact same car they had for 1000s less. It may have a few miles on it, but shit, most cars run better once they have a few grand on them. And..you can always buy an extended warranty for pretty cheap.

Oh..by the way, I thought this topic was about the new Z06 Ring lap times. I'm gunna guess 7m44s.

Oh..by the way, I thought this topic was about the new Z06 Ring lap times. I'm gunna guess 7m44s.

I guess u are the only concious one around here. It has been a "Corvette vs All" for most part of this thread.

My guess will be 7m40s, have a feeling better brakes, grip and power will make up for 15s. Really have high hope for this car.

Well - I am hoping the runflat Goodyears are not the weak link in the handeling dept... maybe the long delay is because the Goodyear RunCraps won't let it lap any quicker than a tour bus... ;)

We heard about July/August last time - so hopefully we are not far from a published time.

My guess is that it will be somewhere between 7:40 and 7:46.

The 7:40 is probably a bit optimistic though. I say this because I doubt the RunFlats are a better tyre than the one previously used by the C5. I know that they are getting better with each generation, but they're still an handicap to any sports car - heavier and too stiff.

I guess Chevy is trying to avoid any lawsuits due to punctures or something...? I don't see any other reason for them to put RunFlats on a hardcore car like the Z06.

Justa guess, but no spare wheel maybe?

I'll have to agree on buying Vettes used. C5 prices are tanking, I've seen them under $20k for non Z06 models.

Could be, but many cars don't have a spare wheel and still don't use RunFlats. Specially sports cars. Or when they do, you have the choice to get your car with them or with regular tyres.

The C5 Coupe came with RunCraps - the C6 Coupe comes with RunCraps.

The C5 Z06 came with Goodyeat F1 Super Cars - same GY SC F1 that the rest of the performance car world gets/got.

We have no spare and carry a can of type gunk and an electric powered pump.

The reason GM went with the RunCraps I am sure was to help appeal to the latte sippers that will be buying the C6 Z06 because it is now expensive enough to get on their radar, and they could care less about the cars performance potential and heard it didn't come with a spare :)

The price of fame I guess, when the car was a fringe model it was appreciated - now that it has been redesigned to "appeal to the Euroset" they gave up on the important stuff.

The C6 Z06 has friggen heated seats for kriiisakes. Heated seats in a performance car? WTF?

im appalled that gm put runcraps on the z06. the most hardcore car gm has ever built, and for one of the most important aspects of the car as far as acceleration, deceleration, grip, and ride are concerned (tires) they use pieces of shit. its just a shame, a fucking shame.

Perhaps the newest generation - let's hope.

Oh yeah Im a thread shitter and a child lol...Im not the one using a video game to "factually" state what a "real life" car is going to lap. And when people give their varying opinions that dont completely agree with yours, based on real life facts, you react like a 12 year old who cant get his way. Very adult of you. I saw the childish level of your posts and stooped down to it.

Think about what your 36yo ass basically said in this thread. You ran a 7:45 lap in your little GT4 game with your c5 modded to approximate C6 specs...Then you declared that the real life C6 is gonna run a 7:40 and everyone that doesnt believe you is against poor little RC45...Pathetic ... I couldnt take you seriously after that. Were you thinking without your helmet on again? Dont forget you started the thread shitting, I just wiped it up and stuck it in your mouth.

ok ignoring all the brainless ranting that has apparently preceded me, i dont think the C6 z06 is gonna run 7:40...why? because in GT4, if you practised enough (and im just assuming that RC45 has practiced enough) you're faster than in real life, cos you easily take risks NO1 would dream of taking in real life...look@ the Evo article where they beat the real 'Ring lap record with loads of seconds, they explain it there. I dont know what time the C5 Z06 did on the ring (its prolly on page1 of this topic but im lazy as hell), but just by the figures stated in SnakeBitten's post, i think it'll do 7:48...any idea on when the results will be published?

i think the reason he thought this was valid, was bc the time that he got for a stock c5 z06 was very similar to real life, so if his skill level remains the same for the modded one, he could determine from the difference.

and he isnt totally serious about this. he probably just thought it was a good way to add to the discussion and introduce the topic....

Ya know what you are right...Sometimes adults can act pretty brainless...RC45 Im done.....Truce...Afterall our little "brainless" squabble is pointless in the grand scheme of things.......

Back on topic as I said before I do believe the C6 Z will be in the 7:45 range. That would be an 11 second improvement over the old Z. I think that time will be more attributed to the power increase moreso than the handling. The C6 Z could make up alot of time on that long straightaway topping out near 190-195mph...Gotta make up a ton of time on the old Z just on this part alone.

Gucom, this reply is in no way a jab at you - so please don't take offence - I am simply using the post as a platform from which to respond.

Why do people assume that just because a person has "made an educated observation" based on a game (GT4 in this case) or a video they saw or a race they attended or an article they read, that the person making the staement doe snot have other sources of experience and information upon which they draw?

Has it ever occured to people who both judge others by sound byte and counter others by sound byte that perhaps the poster or commenter is coming to the conclusion they are because of many points of input and evaluation - and may already no a lot about various limitations and exagerations of simulations etc etc.

In other words - I (and many others) know fucking well that life is not represented in a game and know fucking well that physics of real life is different and know fucking well that in a game you "master the controls" of the game interface not the vehicle being simulated and know fucking well that variables on the day of an actual test (barometric pressure, ambiant temperature, fuel octane, tyre condition, internal component friction levels, driver state of mind, wind conditions) are different and well, vary (that's why they are calledvariables).... we may also have many thousands of high performance miles under our belts, and may have attended many tests, spoken to many people, observed many things in real life - so the "instant revelation and impromptu school lesson" "thats it's only a game" is not only wasted but rather irritating at best.

To put it into perspective - I am satisfied that for certain condtitions and test scenarios I am able to invoke similar results and behaviour from the ingame Z06 and my real life Z06 out in the drive way.

Based on this it is a fair bet that other similarities between X real world car and X simulated car would also be true.

As an example, as much as I berated the E60 M5, I didn't want to admit that I was able to duplicate very similar traits to what AutoCar found when they pitted the M5 against the F430.

And to illustrate this point I created a video of the replay of a GT4 simulated C5 Z06 chasing a GT4 simulated E60 M5 - and low and behold, it is a reasonable facsimile of the real world scenario that AutCar (or whome ever) described in their article - that an E60 M5 at full tilt is a pretty good match for a similarly power dedicated sports car.

It would seem that almost everyone who visits the Internet and participates in discussions of forums assumes the other person is a naive fucktard - when if they would just maybe open their eyes and minds they might find that the other person may just know what they are talking about.

C5 Z06's were going for upto $8,000+ off MSRP during their life cycle.

And yes CTS-V's are showing up in the mid $30K range now.

Just a little longer to wait it out... they will be dipping below $30K - especially when the next generation CTS-V and STS-V make their debuts.

is gms the same as the gm employee discount? i thought it was that is why i said that they dont give that on corvettes. if gms isnt the employee discount then i guess rc45 is right, i know that theyve sold for under msrp.

I dunno about the employee discount, but I can get the 4 percent supplier discount on the zo6 if I had the money.

Yeah, pretty much any American made "sports car" or "muscle car" or whatever class the CTS-V is pretty much the worst depreciation bracket in the world. The people that buy them new are getting it up the ass without the lube due to greedy mark-ups, and then two or three years later the dealers are selling the exact same car for thousands less than they were originally because that novelty effect no longer exists.

I can't wait till 2008 when I can get a nice used C6 Z06 for $25,000 less than the fool who paid full price (+ dealer mark up) for it a few years back.

Are they saying the 600bhp S/C version lapped in 7:40 or the 'normal' Z06 lapped in 7:40?

If it was the supercharged one, I cant say Im very impressed.

its the 600 bhp one. not the stock one

Everybody and their uncle knows about the Blue Devil - what this "speculating" journo didn't consider was that the C6 Z06 being at Nurburgring was no secret - and they were there to test the model abotu to be released.

Lets think about this logically - why would GM announce they are going to test the C6 Z06 at the 'Ring - then instead of taking the current launch model, they take some secret FUTURE car, as yet not even certain to be produced future car, do laps ONLY in that car - then a "spy journo" only sees this FUTURE car, "hears" about a time and somehow doesn't see the stock car run, the car that GM actually meant to take over there and run.

Exactly what would that achieve?

nothing much really, but i dont think thats what happened.
The point here is that the journalist quotes bob lutz who says theyre gonna release this super vette that will, for a much more higher price, compete with top supercars, so i doubt he is wrong.

We all know about the story he quoted - it is rather old news :)

The point is, you don't sell current models by showing off the next model before the current one is out.

The point is that it was no secret that the C6 Z06 was going to be tested at a pool day - the point was to test the CURRENT car about to be released.

How come these spy journos sat all day and didn't see the "regular C6 Z06"? They only see thsi Blue Devil?

Funny how the "regular" car was announced it was being tested - they only see one car - and jump to the conclusion it is the Blue Devil - just cause it is blue, and "sounds" super charged.

Again - doesn't gel.

A number of powerful Vett supporting attorneys offered to work Pro Bono - then after the story made it the Wall Street Journal and they got wind of the fact that it wasn't just gonna be a cake walk for them they stopped all communication - well almost all, their offical comment to the WSJ was "we will not proceed any further".

Looks like the Vette community itself is a little more influential than GM gave it credit for.

Interesting, that'll teach them.

Too long before and they get bored and go elsewhere. My guess is the first 1000 or so are already sold and they are holding off until the car is released to push further.

Its very much in line with their actions with other cars as of late: the gto and the solstice for example, where they held off the media blitz for a few months.

They also could be using viral marketing.

Aka you pass around the 7:40 number, true or not.. In effect if we knew for sure the number wed prolly stop discussing it.. Because we continue to wonder we create buzz.

Nah, I think Autocar got their info confused. In fact, the info is nothing new and quotes Lutz from the Autoweek article word for word. They probably stitched this together from the time reported for the Z06 in Auto Bild, which was "just more than 7:40". And from what I've heard, that article made no reference to any Blue Devil. Without a pic of what's under the hood (and so far there is none) or official word from GM (they don't yet formally acknowledge its existence), there's no way to say this is the Blue Devil. It would make much more sense to lap the 'Ring with the Z06, just as GM had announced months before, and set the lap time with it. Word I'm hearing is that the time may be released around 7/25.
Even if it is the Blue Devil, for Magnussen to have gotten that time on just a few laps is still pretty impressive. Anything below 8 is simply cooking on that track. With a driver who knows the 'Ring like the back of his hand (say, Horst von Saurma) and can commit to many of the blind corners, who knows...

Just out of curiousity what kind of times are all out race vehicles running on that track? Like a formula, lemans, or Cup car?

ZfrkS62
07-11-2005, 01:55 PM
For formula races they use a different section of the ring. It's simply too dangerous to run a formula type car around the ring due to the surface.

However Prototype i believe is down in the high 5 minute - low 6 minute range.
