Two of my IBM:s have done pretty much the same thing. I know what it's like losing everything you got on your HD so I feel for you buddy!

RIP HD =( the best is backup all the important thinks in cds, i make that with my top gear and fifth gear videos, and all my ps works =(
thats really bad man. losing all the car stuff you've saved over the years. :(
Backing your entire HD contents is too much of a hassle. I think the easiest is to have 2 hard drives running on your PC, then you can have it automatically synchornize contents.

Well if I was backing up all the time there would be no need for big harddrives, we could all survive with an 80gb if that was the case.
I do backup regulary, but its just a hassle, I have shoe box full of dvdr/cdrs with car stuff but still......
Were I did mess up is in the documents that I didnt save.
^^^
Wise call with the Western Digital drive, i've had mine for over 4 years. Very reliable :good:
btw are you sure its impossible to recover anything. When you said drive failed did you mean it's physically broken. Even if a lot of sectors were damaged it might be possible to recover some stuff with special software.

Is there any more information about that?
Sorry about your harddrive loss too! I feel the need that I should replace my dual HD as well.
i feel for you man, iv had that happen on me and even though it was only a 20 gig laptop hd man i lost alot of pics and emails and i felt like i was going to die. i cant imagine what i would do if i lost the 900gigs i have now.
Back your data up man! Talk about living close to the edge
Thamars idea seems pretty cool (no pun intended). I read about that when my HD failed - i didn't try it because the drive was fine, it just decided to reformat itself to piss me off... that was about 120gigs on a 200gig drive, and i recovered about 40gigs using some software or other given to me by some kind souls here on JW 8)

^^One of the best.
My HDD gave up on me after 3 days of usage. It turned out the electronics were screwed.

there are alot of places that can retrieve stuff from it but it will be expensive.
Not going to bother, its mechinical, not the controller board, if it was the controller Id just grab one at work stick it in and back everything up. Its mechinical, made some really weird noises, cracks and clicks.
Ill have a poke at it later but still a damn shame, all the pics and docs gone......Its a good thing I use web based emails cause I dont see my self loosing all my transaction data etc...
Thamar- Ill give that a go. If that doesnt work, Ill open it up and see whats going on.

that suxxx man :(. I feel your pain though (maybe to an even greater extent), my computer just crashed 3 or 4 days ago and everything got deleted i had a virus and a half. But if you think loosing one hard drive is bad, try loosing 3...im on my 4th right now. In the past 3 or 4 years i have blown 3 maxtor hard drives. Im on my 4th this one is preaty sturdy i have had it for over a year if not longer. Btw the one i have right now is also a maxtor. The good thing though everytime it blew my dad returned it to cosco, and they accepted it everytime. God bless those guys :).
