Well the time has is nearly here for us to see how far Henman gets before he most probably agonizingly goes out :P

How do you reckon he'll do this year, and more importantly who are you tipping for success this year?

My bet Henman will loose in quarters, and Federer to win. Though i'd like to see Rafael Nadal do well too :D

Henman sadly although on top since quite a while, always miss something when really needed. IMO he won't reach the 1/4.

Nadal isn't really a grass player, but he is in a damn nice shape and hyped, so he could do well.

Of course I am cheer Federer and he could easily win this year too. But Wimbledon always sees some surprises.

I'd like to see Philipoussis doing a nice come back, but he isn't very well lately.

Anyway, in the current field of players, nobody can come close to Federer as for variety and style. Wimbledon 2005 must go to him once more :D

Well, i love Wimbledon.

The Henman-Hype is so annoying, i dislike the man with a passion. The commentators (on the BBC) are so biased towards him, and don't give the rest of the players their own share of praise. Henman is, unfortunately, over the (Henamn-) Hill. He plays a good game, but can't make it stick to get to the final and win.

My tip has to be Nadal... he's proven his strength on clay, now he needs a grass title. Federer is just awesome, though, so he needs to continue on form.

For the ladies... Sharapova has to be a good bet. Let's hope she can forget about the media and concentrate on winning. It was amazing for her to win at such a young age (i'm only just 17 now!) and she seems to have tried to avoid the advertisment offers for the meantime.

BTW - I might be down in Wimbledon next weekend... get some tickets for the outer courts and enjoy the atmosphere. Nothing is confirmed yet, but it's something to look forward to if it happens :D

ooops what a sexist i am, i forgot about the ladies! anyway i don't know a great deal about the players, other than that sharapova is hot :P

LOL, indeed I rarely focus that much on the women tournament usually. Of course when we had Martin Hingis it was a different matter, but now that we are left with Patty Schnieder (wich is not really as good as Martina was), I kinda lost interest. As a little boy when Steffi Graaf and Martina Navratilova were still in the game, it was marvellous, but since the Williams sisters, Linsday Davenport and all the other giant females stormed in, it became "different". Luckily the new waves from the east and from Belgium (Henin), are again bringing to us some ladies and not tanks :D

I only watch womens tennis, rarely watch mens tennis, is too boring.

Besides that, I think Hemann makes a good chance if he playes a constant game.

My bet would be Federer without a doubt. I seriously doubt that Nadal will have a chance to win this. When was tha last time a spaniard won a tournament on another surface than clay? I'm not really sure what shape Safin is in but when he plays at his beast he can surely beat Federer wich he showed in Australia.

A dark horse could be Montoya :D

In the womens tournament my guess would be some of the Belgian girls. Both Clijsters and Henin-Herdenne (sorry if I misspelled their names) have made remarkable comebacks and really put the pressure back on the Americans and Russians. For the moment I don't think any of the russians play att their peak and that's not good enough. Would be cool If Sharapova won again but I doubt it.

That's the sort of thing she will have to worry about with all the paparazzi and their massive zoom lenses

The "tank" generation as you call it has been a massive force. Henin has had a few to many problems with her game :(

The other Tennis pin-up is Hantuchova, but i don't know whether she is competing or not :?

Talking of tennis a few years back, Sampras and Agassi were my favourite to watch. Going even further back, Nastase was a great player, and i love watchin him in the Charity matches, the old people are so funny. :P

TT

Oh well yes, if we want to go on with the memories, Sampras was really gifted, but a pity he arrived a bit too late and missed some of the greatest wich stopped playing right before he made his first steps in the ATP tournaments. For sure some of the matches with Agassi were great.

My memories go back to McEnroe, Lendl, Edberg and Becker.. those were some wicked players :D but retired players always look much better than present ones. Maybe because you tend to only remember their good moments.

Anyway, I am happy to see we have other tennis fans and I look forward to have some discussions about the upcoming matches. I hope eurosport will do a good coverage as always

I live in Sweden and Eurosport never shows Wimbledon here. For some reason it's the only Grand Slam Tournament they don't show. Pretty strange IMO..

Incidentely this is what BBC's coverage could look like soon, i'm stunned by the difference of hi def, http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/4087442.stm even though my laptop doesn't make full use of it. From what i've heard it will be even better quality than the US equivilant. As always we are late though

GO HEWITT!! I think Lleyton is a good chance, if his fiance (the lovely Bec Cartwright  ) and her upcoming child birth don't distract him too much. :)

However it seems that Federer is still the one to beat, though thats not really a bad thing as he seems like a nice guy and is tennis is good to watch. :D

Unfortunately over here the matches are shown in the middle of the night so I don't watch too many of them, but when it gets to the quarter-finals and further I make some exceptions. :D

He is on the court right now and things look pretty bad already.. so as expected, once again, he won't go that far and beeign 30, he really won't have many more opportunities

Yup just tuned in just now, and he's almost definately on his way out IMO  Well at least it wil be less of an anti climax :P apparently that andy Murray played well though. So the Brits still have some hope for the future maybe.......

Looks like roddick came back well from a slighty shaky second set too. Thats the only bit of that match i saw, when i came in for a bite to eat, and he wasn't that impressive i have to say.

BTW how many grass courts do finland have :P

Uhm, with some effort he took the 3rd set  well, well done I guess.

Actually even if I am sure he can't win Wimbledon, it would be a pity to see him go out that soon. I always saw him as one of the few "pure" players, Wimbledon style I would say: he always wear white (even in other tournaments where it isn't mandatory), he has a classic style of play, a serve & volley we don't see that often these days, so definitely when he is inspired it is marvellous to watch :bah:

Indeed, his experience paid off and after 3 hours, even if it's the first match of the tournament, you need it to keep going and take it home. That Eminemineminwhatever lost because of his lack of experience IMO.

LOL yeh total unpronouncable! They said he broke his wrist a couple of years back, when he was just emerging , never heard of him before, but certainly made a good account of himself. He was all over the court fromwhat i saw, but as you say henmans experience paid off, not the first time he has been in this kind of situation for sure! he likes to tease us!

So, what about today's matches? I only watched the first two sets of Philippousis v Safin and then switched to Federer obviously...

Once again, Philippousis had physical troubles... he always had the potential (mainly thanks to a mighty serve), but never exploited it fully because of such problems :( and Safin went through. He is a better player IMO, but still, I would have liked a better match.

As for Federer, impressive performance against a pretty good player!

Yeh always seems to happen to him :-( , totally spoiled the match. Still can't see anyone stopping federer, early days though i suppose

Yeh and that new kid murray don't think he played again yet, but don't expect him to progress much further this time, if at all. As for tim well it would take such a step up in performance to progress far in this tornament. Suppose stranger things have happened....... but not much :P

Henman out, unsurprising really, though in parts i thought he played alot better than his previous match. Still didn't play well enough and thats what counts, not to be harsh on his opponent but tim henman should be more than capable of beating him IMO. Just didn't seem like he was ever coming out to attack and beat the guy really :-(

Nadal out, more of a surpise to me!, i will have to catch the highlights tonight or see if they do anything on interactive.

Well, Tim's out. No great suprise. What was suprising was the crowd cheering at double faults in henmans favour, and "ooing" and goading Tursunov when he let off a bit of steam. The English never get it right IMO.

And out goes Nadal. Of course, it would have been a dream for him to have got further, but he has plenty more Wimbledon visits to look forward to 8)

but Andy Murray....what can i say,he is doin very well

Yup... the commentators have written Henman right off (and not too soon either). Murray is, as they say, going to provide some Home interest for us over the next 10 years. Nalbandian played excellently. we can't take anything away from him :)

Other games..... in battle of the babes, Sharapova beat Shrebotnik. my support lay with Sharapova. She had a shaky game, not really settling, but hey, she still won!

Hantuchova went out. She is another fine looking player, but Venus blasted her out. Bit of a shame to see her go, i'm not really a fan of the Williams sisters to be honest, but can't deny their talent.

And finally, Federer won, but dropped his first set at wimbledon. He's a great player, and has to be the favourite to go the whole way.

Roll on the 4th round 8)

Hewitt vs Federer in the semi's, I really like both players but I better support the Aussie over the Swiss in this one. I'm sure it will be a great match whichever way it goes, looks like I will need to stay up for this one. :D

Just watched the mens Final.

What can i say, Federer hasn't slowed up or shown any flaws for the past year, and he won, no suprise.

Roddick took a beating, and i would have really liked to have seen him win, but Federer is just a machine at the moment. Perfect shot selection, amazing movement acros the court and an ice-cold character. He had the makings of a great champion, and has achieved that over and over.

Also, post-match interview, Roddick was a true gentleman, and dererved to be in the final. A shame he couldn't even manage a single set, but playing against Federer, who would?

A great tournament this year 8) Heck... we even had some pretty good weather too :P

Looking forward to next years Wimbledon (i don't care much for the doubles finals etc  ) and trying to find a way to get me some tickets for some of the matches too

Indeed, marvellous performance by Federer. Wimbledon is home for him now.. it was Sampras' the past years, another great champion.
Sadly it was really a one-way match. Roddick is a strong player, even if, beside the serve, the rest isn't really impressive. But it is still rock solid.. well, against an inspired Federer, you need to be a crazy drugged alien to submit him!
He is the #1, no need to argue, he knows it and isn't really modest: in inteviews he always goes straight to the point: I am the best and when I play like I know, nobody can beat me :D but still, he can't be a dork, he is a cool guy and a pleasure to watch him play.
Next up is Gstaad.. still wondering if I should buy a ticket for the quarters or semifinals...

Roddick is a fool for trading up Brad Gilbert, he looked much better against Federer last year, before the delay...also Roddick's american express commercial with the 2 seats, has been foiled once again
