I was thinking of switching to firefox, but dont know if is any better then IE. I would think that some of you use it. Which one is better overall? By better I mean more secure, faster, etc. Also if I decide to install firefox, will I be able to uninstall IE? And if I unistall it will it throw some programs out of whack? I am running windows XP by the way.

I'd say yes, ff is better, has more plugins that really work, has RSS which has the ability to have constant news of some page
the tabbed browsing feature is my favorite. By this time I'm very far away from my pc and I use IE and it's bullshit
give ff a try and you'll never leave it.
but don't uninstall IE because some webpages have activex and only IE can run it

well i love it, fast, relaible and using tabs is great. Also hardly ever get pop ups. As for security well... any popular program is a target i guess, just as wiht IE it pays to keep up to date. I keep IE as a backup for the odd thing i can't do in firefox. The vault for instance throws a fit sometimes
Others swear by opera of course, and while i liked it when i tried it, I didn't like the banner (you can pay to remove i think) It was nice but little things make me prefer firefox. I'd try both and decide for yourself. But worth keeping IE IMO especially as badly designed pages don't always display correctly in every browser.

Uninstalling IE is nigh on impossible (I tried it once and failed miserably) personally I use Opera. As far as avoiding bugs your best bet is simply to use a browser that isn't used by many others. In theory firefox has many less holes than IE but as it is becoming possible and known as "hard to crack" it becomes more of a target.
In the past Opera claimed that it was the fastest web browser around. With the latest version (Opera eight) they seem to have dropped this claim.
The biggest problems that I have with Internet explorer are that it has too many holes and doesn't have tabbed web browsing. While firefox has tabbed web browsing the Opera version is much better. As far as the number of holes in Opera and Firefox I am not sure what the comparison is like.

What do you mean by holes? Bugs? Security threats?

security threats. That's why MS has so many patches for windows and IE
at last, I decided and I have just installed FF in this laptop. A very small 4MB file.
I love tabs :D
Yes worth it IMO. Actually I am probably the only one using Mozilla and not Firefox now that I think about it  but it's similar I guess.
And yes, as said for some webpages, IE is usefull as a backuü

Whats the difference between mozilla and firefox?
Isn't mozilla like a simplified Firebox? First there was Mozilla only, then it evolved into Firefox I think

first there was mozilla, and the it evolved to FF
btw TT... you should upgrade to the new FF, it has been detected that it has some security flaws
Mozilla has security flaws? I am running Mozilla 1.7.2 and I bet it's sooooooo yesterday :D

you never update anything. You still hang around that old win98?
Some months ago the FF browser had a big update because of that security flaw

^ Well, I'm on Win 3.1!!!
j/k
I used firefox for a while but back along I had a lot of PC problems so reformatted and I went back to a 'factory' config. I type this in an IE window as I've not got round to re-installing FF yet.
FF is much better IMO just for the 'open link in new tab' facility let alone the security advantage over IE

hey TT, you're not the only one  .I use mozilla as well (1.7.5) and it suits me perfectly. need open link in another panel? press the wheel mouse and that's it - how simple!!! and you have still just one window opened. I just love it! no more xy windows with web viewers... and skins are just the sweet cherry on the cake

As far as holes, bugs and security threats all that I am meaning is errors in the code of the program that allow spyware, adware, malware, viruses etc. to gain unauthorised control over your computer. My understanding is that most of these programs target specific 'holes' in a program, because IE and windows is the most popular configuration almost all of the bugs will be designed to attack holes in IE. However as FF becomes more poplar more and more of the programmers who create rogue programs will target it.

yes, with internet explorer i was getting all kinds of spyware, and with Firefox, i have no problems. I also have no problems with web pages not loading, or loading incorrectly. FF is deffanitly worth the download, and if i ever have a problem with FF not loading a page properly, i just copy the web address to IE.

Makes sense, thanks. I downloaded FF and must say, the tab feature is great.
never bothered with switching out.
Was a great fan of Mosaic and Netscrape years aog - but with all the manul crap you gotta go through it's just not worth the hassle.
Stop sticking your :browser" in porn sites and the spyware will miraculously go away... ;) :P

Mozilla is a propper full sized browser that includes POP3 mail check (like IE plus Outlook). Firefox is ONLY the browser. At 4.6MB and with the power it has, I'd say its an M3 CSL.
If you dont have Firefox, you are MISSING OUT realllly big!
Get it ASAP!
