Lotus is developing a new ultralight trackday car. It's based on the Elise and will be powered by the supercharged Toyota engine, which will produce about 240 bhp. The car will be able to reach 160 km/h within 9 sec. The production starts in December this year and Lotus will build 100 of these a year.

oooh, this should be worth seeing, similar in looks to the 340R, only with better reliability, and hopefully better access to service, without removing the entire 1-piece body shell, and somewhat more extreme...great! :D 8)

I was able to get into an Elise this weekend from a person at the meet I went to. It's a really nice car. I wish there was more interior room since it's so hard getting in and out of the car and the space between you and your passenger is very mininal. So make sure you have someone you really like next to you. In my case, I had a really cute latina sit next to me talking to me while I was checking out the car.

you should try the Exige! the ride is much stiffer too, but thats even barer inside!
I'm guessing this trackday special car will use the Exige setup, I gotta find out about this car now, time to talk to the guy's at work, one of them will know.

One thing for sure, the Exige has put the biggest smile on face so far... I think this could rival it :D

you dont have to drive it to enjoy it, i've been for some road tests in pretty much the entire Elise/Exige S2 range as a passenger (The Exige far outhandles anything, its insanely good, and you tell that from the passenger seat), I didn't have my driving licence back then (about 2 months ago), but I do now, and once i've finished my exams, turned 18, and get on the company insurance, then i'll be driving Exiges and anything else that comes in :D

EDIT:
dani_d_mas: they are different cars, the 240R is a limited run, which I am still waiting for one of the 7 cars destined for where I work to arrive! The 240R provides the ultimate in trackday car, which can be driven home in the evening, the same as the current Elise or Exige, just slightly faster, this new concept could easily be road legal, but to my knowledge most Radical owners rarely drive the roads because its too uncomfortable, this would fit that niche, of trailer driven track cars, which of course, if so wished, could be driven on the road.

nice, a car like that I would pick over any porsche, ferrari or lamborghini ... as speed limit laws get tougher and cops multiply, it is much more practical and fun to own a car you can truly take to the limit, albeit on a track, but at least without any hassels from the men in blue ... the 240 hp high rpm engine should give it nice linear boost and it will probably outhandle any other road going exotics; awesome, should make nice competition for radical
