owh the second time i took the test, i changed all the answers that i wasnt sure of which was best, and it turned out i'm a britpop rocker...which is sort of true, although i like other types of rock too (and more). Lay off the killers man, they are certainly NOT emo, and the cd is actually pretty good. Its one of the first good mainstream albums in a while.

In Flames is pretty cool too, I like reroute a lot.
Has anyone here ever heard of Devin Townsend? IMO the most amazing music I've ever heard. And its metal.

fuck the killers. first album they sell out, and not in a good way. Poppy little riffs to stick in the heads of their prepubesent female followers :P they are emo. they are shit :fist: i will not be the LEAST bit sad to see them breakup when the next pop act comes along and radio and mtv drops them like the steaming pile of crap they are :P

Have you actually listened to the album? There are actually some pretty cool vocal and instrumental arrangements on it and not all the songs are as pop as Mr. Brightside (which is a great rock song regardless of it being pop), or Somebody told me (which is not a very good song). In any case I'd take the killers any day over the Nu-Metal garbage that's been popular.

I think there's also a distinction to be made between good pop and bad pop. Bad pop is made with the sole intent of making money (this also, coincidentally, is the definition of "selling out," something which the killers have most certainly NOT done.) Good pop is actually good music that happens to be easy to listen to and gets popular. Who cares if people like it, good music is good music, regardless.

I didn't know about that, I don't watch much TV (because that's actually controlled by the greedy corporations that cause people to sell out) .

Paul McCartney might beg to differ :wink: i dont actually think the term pop regarding a musical genera was around back then, so i think in their day they were considered rock. even now i wouldnt call them pop, i dont think, unless it was paired with the word oldies. when i think pop, i think Britney Spears (yuk). just my opinion tho :P

Pop was quite a different term back then. These days it's the kiss of death to rock bands, but back in the 60's it was simply just short for Popular.

The Beatles, The Jimi Hendrix Experience; two of the biggest icons of classic rock, were the biggest Pop stars of the time :wink:

@bmagni- you have to rememeber what the sound was back then as well. These days they would probably fall within the ranks of Franz Ferdinand, Jet and those types of "bands". However they did do something that most bands don't as they go on. Their lyrics got better :lol: i actually like their later work, much unlike the response you mostly get these days about old bands "i like (insert old-but-still-around-band here) older stuff" :|

The Beatles started out as a Pop band. Then they started playing around different instrumentation/deeper lyrics within the realm of what was then considered pop on Rubber Soul (thanks mostly to bob dylan's introduction of marijuana), and then they went off the deep end with Revolver. Starting with that album they created their own inimitable psychedelic sound (especially on "tomorrow never knows"). From that point on, their style really defies classification. The Beatles did their own thing and various styles of music developed from that.
