Very nice car - the 182 Cup is one of the cars I was considering to buy next. :D
Its good to see you went for the Cup version - is it standard or have you done some mods?

A few shots of the rear as requested

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y255/rsclio172cup/th_rear.jpg (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y255/rsclio172cup/rear.jpg)

Its totally standard except for an ITG performance panel filter.

I once read that the '172 Cup' is called the 'The Ragnotti' on the Continent. Is that true? I'm guessing its after the French rally driver Jean Ragnotti, right?

Nice car rsclio.172cup!

Were those alloys dealer fit options, they seem to have the renault logo on them? It looks really great in that colour and with those wheels, i really like them. What's the colour called? Best clio colour I've seen yet, seem to see these cars in black or orange a lot with the horrible stock wheels which I dont like at all.

Does the clio keep up with stock civic (EP) Type Rs?

Great hot hatch!! It idd looks the same as a Clio RS Jean Ragnotti.

If I'm not wrong, the Ragnotti is a limited edition of the Clio Sport, just like yours: with those wheels and only in that colour. It didn't have air-conditioning for example... just to save weight. In fact, the car was sold especially to convert it into a rallye car... something like the Mitsubishi Lancer RS.
It also didn't had ABS, ESP, and traction control. Just a pure fun car :D
Over here it wasn't really sold especially for rally purposes (If I'm not mistaken they sell some specially rally versions over here if you want one). It was just a more hardcore and faster version as the standard road going Clio RS. It seems those marketing strategies differ from country to country :D

Thanks for all your posts - glad you like it! :D

The colour is 'Mondial Blue' and everything on the car, including the wheels, is standard spec. The 'Cups' dont have air con, xenons, leather etc etc but they do have thinner glass and other weight saving features, e.g. no spare tyre. Makes is just under 100Kg's lighter than a standard 172, and much lighter than the new 182 and 182 Cup. BHP per Tonne is the key with this car. On paper there is nothing between a 172 Cup and the Civic Type R ( another great car )

Great car - I have to say that the 172 Cup would rate as one of favourites for Hot Hatch of recent years.

So what do you think of the car? Is it as good to drive as I keep reading in all the reviews?

I bought it because of all those reviews! Its lived up to all my expectations ever since I first got it. The handaling is fantastic, you can just throw it into corners and it sticks to the road. The tourqe steer in 1st and 2nd makes it alot of fun as well, and being relatively light it pulls well in 3rd, 4th and 5th. I didnt even test drive it before ordering because every single review I read in car magazines like Evo said that for the money I had to spend on a new car ( less than £20K ) it was not possible to go faster or have more fun! Its a great car and I can see myself keeping it for sometime. I also looked at cars like the Civic Type R and the Mini Cooper S, but they cost a fair bit more and werent any quciker, so I went with the Clio. Gets a bit scary in the wet without ABS though.

Great looking joy machine :P Wheels fits the car perfectly as the color :)
I wouldnt have balls to buy it without ABS for normal driving

This confirms it, your car is exactly the same as what is/was the Jean Ragnotti over here :)

Beaut car mate - what a little corker!

If I was looking to buy a new car, the Clio Sport would be it.

However, they are $34K over here in Oz - a lot of money for a little car.
ie. for the same money here, you can get a V6 4 door Holden.

Another point though is the price of the Mini Cooper S - $40K!

Renault Clio Sport at $34K is a lot more reasonable - still too much downunder though.

p.s

How are you finding the ergonomics?

Everywhere you look, they say its arguably the greatest ever hot hatch (ie. EVO) , but they always say how ordinary the ergonomics are.

The interior is pretty plain, that said its quite comfortable. You still get electric windows and mirrors, steering wheel control for the CD player, etc etc.

Cant believe its the same price as a V6 Holden in Oz - you'd have to go for the Holden wouldnt you - those things are beasts!

Yeah, fair point!

However, I reckon the best way to go is to get a low mileage used Clio Sport for around $23K (Holden Barina SRi money) and pocket $10K :D

Yeah/nagh?

Yeah.....I would definately rather have a Clio 172 than a V6 Commodore, unless of course I had a family
A WRX beats them both though....... :D

Yep, love the WRX (the old '90s version + the brand new one - not the bug eye one in the middle...)

Still, you know what 'Motor' says about the Clio Sport:

"All the fun of a WRX for $10K less".

Yeah I read the MOTOR comparison in the July 2001 issue, but for me the WRX is just the nicer all round car. I like the fact its a turbo and AWD is a big bonus, and its more roomy which comes in handy sometimes :D
BTW, I love  the bugeyes - don't know why it gets so much hate :?
