# About this circuit
# Monaco is probably the most famous Grand Prix of all. A tight, demanding street circuit at which overtaking is almost impossible, meaning pole position can be decisive. The circuit is very hard on the drivers, with a typical lap requiring 36 gear changes - a total of over 2800 per race! It is not so hard on the engine of the car, as it is rarely operating on full power.
The roads have very little grip to begin with, so in wet weather, the sight of cars sliding into the barriers is very common. Teams raise the driving height of their cars, and opt for high downforce on this circuit.

Kimi is going to win this one methinks. Schumi will be cursed by his poor QLF1 starting spot

i think that the renaults have the best chances to win. their traction control is the best in the formel 1 and with alonso or fisico their have very good drivers. with the very small corners the track is ideal for renault power :D . so i think that it will be very complicated especially for ferrari to beat the others. but lets see what the options are :D
I think the performance of the Mclarens and the Renautls will be more or less equal. But I'm betting on Kimi winning it bar any mechinical mishaps.
Ferrari nor Toyota or Williams will do too well. Fisi will beat alonso. That's my 2 cents worth anyway.

but last year Jarno Trulli won the race. so i think that he is also a candidate for the victory. and in the last two races toyota had a good and fast pace.

Last year Renault had a very rear biased weight distribution, this helped them to accelerate at low speeds. I dont know if they have changed their weight distribution for this year, but I would take a punt that they have.
As Gascoyne is now technical director at Toyota it wouldnt surprise me one iota if they were running a rear biased weight distribution. If this is the case then I would expect Trulli to be very competitive around the streets.
On the other hand Webber has traditionally been fast at Monaco, I expect him to overqualify the car once again. Providing he gets a decent start I think a podium is on the cards for him.
However overall the status quo shouldnt be all that different to previous races, Raikkonnen and Alonso fighting for the win, potentially with a couple of wildcards thrown in to make things interesting, I cant wait. :D
Either Mclaren or Renautls team will win this.. But I will be with Renautl if I had to choose. Good luck to all the team though.. This is the best year in F1 in a while..

this is alonso's race to loose, so if everything goes well, he will be on top of the podium, and perhaps will be joined by fisichella, at either two or three, while coulthard, raikkonen and schumi are wild cards here, especially kimi and schumi, because if their cars hold up all race long, they are more than capable of getting to the podium here, although not at P1, schumi is due for a big win, but not this time, not yet, even if his tyres stay intact ... we shall see

Schumi will prolly not in the top 3.
normally the usual racers don't set those fast times. It's a wonder why Alonso felt the need to do so. Usually on Friday/Thursday it's always the 3rd drivers doing the timesheet toping.
Under pressure?
Showing who's boss?
I think Mclaren are the ones in best shape for pole and the win.

I'm thinking kimi's going to take 1st this weekend. I wouldn't rule out Montoya (for once) this race as he's looked fairly fast.
I'm betting 2 renaults, 2 mclarens and 2 toyotas in the top 6 ;)

but last year Jarno Trulli won the race. so i think that he is also a candidate for the victory. and in the last two races toyota had a good and fast pace.
well if you want to go at it that way, then i say MS will win since he has won 5 times there, only Senna i believe has won more with 6 wins there.
what happens in the past, has no direct effect of what will happen in the future.
thats right but monaco isn´t a easy track. not all drivers have the qualification to do a good job. but jarno won last year and i want to say that he knows how to go very fast on this track :)
ferrari have problems with their cars. michael has some vibrations and the team don't know from where they comes.
However this will be a very interesting race this weekend :D

Its good to see Webber qualifying well again, now if he gets a decent start it could be his first podium finish since no one will be able to pass :D

Damn... Kimi did a fantastic lap!
And Minardi... Bridgestone's softer compound really works on Qualifying, but I have doubts about its durability...
On the other hand, the harder compound used by Ferrari and Jordan...well, slow would be a understatement... :| And unlike previous races, a backwards race by Ferrari isn't possible at Monaco , so I'm not expecting a good result at all... :?
And it seems that Montoya will start from the back of the grid:

What's odd is that this morning Ferrari actually did well (1:14.9 for Michael) compared to Quali's 1:16.1... So they were probably using the softer compound this morning...

The lap Alonso layed down was very impressive, but then Kimi absolutly smoked it! I hate to say but Montoya should be embarasssed, considering they should have both been light on fuel I would have hoped that he could have gotten a little closer the Kimi's time.
I have to give a congrats to Webber, what an excellent lap in what is most likly the lesser car. I hope he can keep from having his mental mishap during the race.
R. Schumacher continues to show why toyota overpaid, Trulli continues to show him up time and time again. Now Ralph will most likely have a bad spot in the qualifying order at the ring.
This one may not be too close up front. Unless Kimi has mechanical problem I don't see this one getting away from him.

I believe the rules state that you must choose your compound for the qualifying as of Sat morning prior to the car being run. So they cant be testing different compounds on Saturday.

Ralf was actually on the pace of Webber prior to his mishap. So he was at least trying. If you see the onboard of the incident - he turned a little too early - the wheel clouted the armco and broke the suspension. That's what sent him into the opposite wall.
I guess he was desperate for a quick time here. I think he was on pole once - 2003 perhaps. So he was hoping for a repeat.

Yeah, I tought that too but difference is so big... Maybe different track conditions or simply the fact that the harder Bridgestones don't work over a single lap.

Kimi looked awesome, Schumi in the making this guy.
Schumi showed that the car still has the pace, and that last minute push from him is what I love about the guy, he's flat out till the end, nearly took that 6th spot.

This whole season so far has been pretty exciting, i hope Kimi will get close to Alonso, and in a perfect world even more ppl would come close, so u really have no idea of who's gonna win...dunno who that would be then, maybe Trulli, but s ofar he's just been fast in most races, instead of having scored his points by overtaking...he overtookfisichella in a nice way today tho 8)

I enjoyed this race, Some great over taking manouvers. Schumi showed he had some pace, but Kimi really came out on top. Webber would be pretty pissed about the pit incident with his team mate, but Alonso was just getting slower and slower, couldnt be helped i guess.
The last lap with schui nearly taking out his bro, that was funny stuff, you see the toyota just swearve out of the way, and fast...lol..

Well... I have to say that I wasn't expecting the race to be so good, judging by the Qualifying times, but fortunately it was very good. :D
Congrats to Kimi on another deserved victory - he drove a fantastic race and showed once again that the McLarens are the fastest cars at the moment. Even with a one-stop strategy and the softer tyres, the car held up togheter 'till the end of the race and on the first laps he left Alonso well behind.
Speaking of which, I have the feeling that Renault will struggle to mantain the lead in the WCC, and the same goes for Alonso in the WDC. Even on a slow track (where the Renaults are usually strong) it was clear that both the Mclarens and the Williams had a better pace; same goes for Ferrari - once again they proved that the car is very fast (specialy on Michael's hands), but Qualifying pace is still a problem. Luck wasn't there either - without that Safety Car incident and Barrichelo's penalty things could have been alot different... And that is proven by Michael setting the fastest lap of the race when he still had alot of fuel on board. Shame that after that traffic slowed him down - still, he was able to unlap himself.
Going back to the Renaults, I was surprised by their (bad) performance. Alonso's car COMPLETELY destroyed its rear tyres - and since they were on the harder compound and the fastest lap set by them wasn't impressive at all, this makes think that they will struggle on the next races, as said before. They're still very strong on Qualifying tough.
Williams were also a good surprise - very good race by them. Kudos to both driver for the overtaking manoeuvres. :D
And like Max Power said, thanks to Trulli for "opening the can" with that Kamikaze move. Thanks Trulli! :D
Ah, and thanks to Villeneuve too!
And Ralf: lol man, were you sleeping or what...?

Another great race for this season... now kimi's had no unfortunate incidents and has a decent car under him, i can't really see anyone stopping him this season. Whether he'll do enough to catch alonso is a different matter.
I don't get ferrari's pace at all.... clearly they had some at some points during the race but it was far from consistent.
Renault's tyre degrdation was fairly worrying, but with the rear bias weight distribution and the track generally being hard on rears then maybe it was just a one off, we'll see next race.
Great job by williams - nice to see the top Brit based manufactures back where they belong ;)

A fantastic race for Kimi, and a well deserved victory. The deserving car won today. Another congrats to Williams, fantastic job by both drivers and I hope that they have finally begun to turn the corner.
As much as montoya frustrated me you can't argue with his charge in the race. Rear of the field to the front is fantastic (especially at Monoco).
We all for the most part enjoyed the race, just wait til two more competitive cars are thrown in the mix next week
A great race!!!!
It's amazing how kimi can pull out such a lead with a fully fueled 1 stopper car from a 2 stopper who, we at least at first, didn't have to look after his tyre cos he was running on the hardest compounds. Great to see the championship shaping nicely. Go kimi!!!!
I think the situations between Renault and Ferrari are reversed. Ferrari have trouble getting speed from their tyres in one lap qualifying and renault don't have such problems but come the race, the ferrari, well, MS in particular can run the pace of the front runners. But only after about 20 or so laps. Maybe his tyres coming good perhaps? Where as the renault would be struggling at that time.
Nurburgring will be another Mclaren walkover. With BAR getting the better of the renaults along with ferrari and williams. Let's see. Can't wait.

Schumacher under fire from family and friends alike
From Kevin Eason in Monte Carlo
THE desperation of a dreadful season turned to resentment last night as the two drivers closest to Michael Schumacher in Formula One turned on the seven-times champion.
Ralf Schumacher described his elder brother as “crazy” after almost falling victim to an ambitious last-lap lunge as Michael hurled his Ferrari at the finish line in a futile attempt to grab sixth place from him in the Monaco Grand Prix. Ralf flicked his Toyota sideways in shock as he suddenly found the Ferrari taking up his space. “He should have switched on his brain before he tried that move,” he said. “One millimetre more and one of us could have been dead. Sometimes Michael is not right in the head.” However, the discontent had spread farther and, more damagingly, to the Ferrari motorhome, where Rubens Barrichello, for so long the German’s faithful lieutenant, sat fuming at being muscled aside by his team-mate. He was so upset that he took his case to Jean Todt, the Ferrari sporting director.
The Brazilian has had a long career as Schumacher’s sidekick, but when he decided yesterday that he deserved to keep his place ahead of his team leader on the final lap of the race, Schumacher took matters into his own hands. As the Ferraris emerged from the darkness of Monaco’s famous tunnel at almost 180mph and into the brilliant sunshine of the harbour front, Schumacher simply barged his way to the crucial inside line into the chicane, as if daring Barrichello to risk a crash.
“If I hadn’t moved out of the way, we would have crashed and lost the points we earned today,” Barrichello said. “I don’t want to destabilise the team, but I have spoken to Michael and Jean Todt. A few years ago I wouldn’t have said anything and I don’t suppose this will change anything.”
Schumacher was characteristically unrepentant, just as he has been before when the pressure of failure has overwhelmed his common sense. This time he said simply: “I am a full-blooded racer. That’s what I am here to do. Do they think I came here just for a Sunday afternoon outing?”

i knew somehting was gonna happen between micheal and his bro ..... imo micheal should've learned in 7 years that there should be a competition and shouldnt have done what he did in monaco .... hes just being a sore looser ....
and anyway .. imo F1 is not about winning or loosing its about how good you do ... cuz the cars are different the setups are different .. no two cars are alike ....
winning and loosing is gonna happen in the A1 gp ...

Well I have to admit to being an MS fan, but also a racing fan.
I think MS was justified. Watching tha last few laps was painful because I could see Rubens had no intention of even trying to pass RS. Obviously MS was frustrated but I think Rubens is at fault for not racing, just cruising. MS saw a chance to take 1 or 2 more points and took it. How is that wrong? It is racing after all.
I hate to bring this kind of thing up, but could you see Senna settling?
That said. I am very happy for Webber, whom I've liked from the start of his career, to finally get a podium. Even though Nick was in front, it seemed Webber has had some bad luck in not gaining the podium earlier this year.
Great race from Kimi. He completely outclassed everybody in the race. No mistakes. If the Mclaren doen't let him down, I think he has a better chance at the Championship than Alonso.
I am looking forward to Nurburgring where hopefully there will be some great passing moves again!

I agree!
I have followed A1 for a long time and can't wait for it to start!

Michael is awesome! I saw the pass and it looked like he just stole the inside line from Ralph, it was his own fault for not protecting his space (well Schumi Sr. did jump on him pretty hard tho  ) It was a great race with quite a few stunning passes.
I hope Ferrari picks up its pace soon, Michael still has a shot if he gets going, I think everyone has caught Renault, so the championship is still up for grabs! :D

I agree with Michael... this isn't some stroll in the park. This is racing.
That said, its bovious why Rubens and Ralph aren't champions, while Schumi is...

For once, I think schumi has a right to be arrogant, not too much wrong with the overtaking - ralf and barichellos fault for being asleep ;)

lets say that his overtake was much better executed than what JV tried

Ralf has been complaining and dis-ing his brother alot lately. I remember they used to be very close until Williams-BMW are more competitive and the 2 has more chance of fighting for positions.

They were very lucky to make it to the end without it blowing up...

I think he did the right thing, the risk wasn't worth it - if he went off then he gets no points, at least this way he still got 4th place and some valuable points
He had no chance to keep the Williams' cars behind him without being unfair and blocking them :)

During Mid race, you could see the car getting closer and closer to walls...But amazingly Alonoso kept it together...

U got a point there dude...but schui, trui, and that jackass villenurve had nothing to loose, they where all out to gain. Alonso could have lost out big time if he tried to keep the pace, something is better than nothing i guess.

The grooves aren't an issue anymore, but what amazes me is that it wore down to the carcass.
