It's difficult to find anything more fun that's also legal or does not involve the opposite sex

Cool!
You look like you know your Carrera very well. :)
I'm hoping to upgrade my SC to a Carrera next year - I want more power.

Hi,

The difference between the two cars (SC vs. Carrera) are not that big - primarely due to the gearing. Do you have the 188 or the 204 HP version?

Unfortunately mine is the 188bhp version (1980).
So the Carrera would be a reasonable power upgrade. There are other things too. G90 gearbox a HUGE plus over the 915 in the SC! Better fuel injection system for one. Better torque too.
I am not interested in the electric seats etc on the Carrera though.
I already changed to Carrera chain tensioners, otherwise that would be another reason.

I just think the Carrera is a slightly more polished car overall.

I recon that you mean the G50 gearbox that was introduced in 1987 - which is a great improvement over the 915, but it also comes at a premium.
There's a huge demand for well kept 87-89 3.2 Carrera's, and that reflects the current asking price.

But honestly, I would not have upgraded from a SC to a 3.2. It's not THAT a big difference. I would have saved a bit longer and aimed for a 993. The ultimate "old school" Porsche :D

Sorry. The G50, yes. So I am aiming for an '87-'89 carrera.
I agree on the 993! I would love a silver Carrera S.
I will try drive some Carreras before making a decision though.
Something to remember is that my car just hit 263 000km. A gearbox or engine issue can be VERY expensive.

Price in South Africa is a bit odd though. If I convert to euro...

SC-> 18 000 - 25 000
Carrera -> 25 000 - 35 000
993 Carrera (incl 4S) -> 60 000 - 80 000

I do not like the 964s for some reason. I'd rather stick with my SC then. :)

Of course I want a brilliant single car I can use every day, rather than a classic and a modern runaround. So 993 is the best choice by far. The SC is still great every morning after over 2 years.
Its expensive to chase a passion, but its great fun!

New event - new video.

This time in the wet, at the old Oslo Airport - Fornebu

The newer Porsches, particular the Boxster are perfect for this type of course, but I'm pleased - placed 4th :)
