****Warning - Spoiler ****

The bike they used was heavily modified

Standard GSX-R1000 - £8,549
Super Bike Replica GSX-R1000 - £24,000

The track that the Cresent Racing team chose was the Motorcycle version of the Silverstone National Circuit (see below). Seems to me they have picked a very bike-friendly circuit.

http://www.sdk2003.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/track.jpg

The Road legal Radical was significantly quicker than the standard bike. The Cresent modified superbike with a full pit-crew and top rider managed to pip the not so top spec, 'out of the box' Radical by two tenths of a second.

Final times

Cresent Suzuki GSX-R1000 – 1min 5.4 sec
Radical SR3 Tracksport – 1min 5.6 sec
Suzuki GSX-R1000 1min 9.0 sec
Porsche GT3 – 1min 10.9 sec
Lamborghini Murcielago – 1min 11.5 sec
BMW M3 CSL – 1min 12.0 sec

Me thinks around a track like Nurburgring the bikes would be.

It's much better getting a balanced view of things this time :)

That feature has to be linked to the show....especially as "EVO" was there and supplied some of the cars....

I think that this track was very frendly to the bikes.
Around Nurburgring bikes would have no chances. Corners, corners, corners.

It is exactly the same event Jabba, except this time the coverage is more accurate :)

Well there are three long straights on this circuit, and a couple of "not so tight" corners. This is defenetly a bike track.

Anyways even if you take the fastest superbike on earth and put it up against a F2003GA it will get raped.

yea, i also felt that the show was a little biased. Plus it was organized by Suzuki bike team. lol

I also read the article. The first thing that got my attention was the modded bike thing, but also the quality of cars.

Right off the bat EVO says that they considered just setting an R500 or SR3 Turbo. They decided against it, but the turbo has so much more power than the sr3 and even that was barely behind.

It also occurred to me that no truly quick supercar was there. I mean an Enzo might not be quite as quick through the corners as the radical or brake quite as well, but to 150 it was as fast as the modded bike so that might have helped on a course like this.

Lastly I found it funny that the bike guys said something about beating the nurburgring record. First it was done in a turbo a car significantly faster than a standard sr3 and they just barely beat the standard on course that had few corners, unlike Nurburgring.

It's funny and interesting, but this is a bike track, look, long straights, and very low amount of corners... there are only 0.6seconds of difference between Murcy's and GT3's time, this make me think a lot...the Lambo is slower than the GT3, but in the straights, with 580bhp is faster. the straights are 3, so that's why the bikes are winning and the Murcy is near the Porsche

Exactly HoboPie - You hit the nail right on the head :)

One thing though

The Enzo is quick but it can't do 0-150mph in 10.6 secs or even 13.1secs :)

^gotta agree with u SDK.. there are very few cars that could keep up with a superbike...let alone a modified one..did someone say Mclaren F1? ...
Its true that past 300kmh the Macca accelerates faster than an f1 car!

This test was set up to make the bikes look good without doubt and to create some controversy amongst the pro car readers...

That issue of EVO had a lot of printing errors! They said that the onlookers were gasping at the Black M3 CSL..when in actual fact the black one was an M3! The silver grey one was the CSL...i wonder why they didn't mention it in the report....

Check my scans dude, the black one was a CSL -> http://www.jabbasworld.net/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1424&size=big&password=&sort=1&cat=503

then why are they using the stock 19inch rims instead of the CSL ones?

TT
11-21-2003, 07:49 AM
Well, if you put CSL rims on a 318 it doesn't become a CSL.. so if you change the rims on a CSL it still is a CSL ;)

Anyway I don't know why they don't have the "official rims" on the black one... I suppose you can have it with the "normal ones" instead of the CSL's... still cool..

did they show the back of the black M3? (the silver gray one had CSL on it) I mean what's the point of having two CSLs in the same test circuit. I would assume it would be a NORMAL m3 because then it would make sense to show the difference in the lap times.

TT

It was not the same circuit.. the grey was used for the "strip", the black on track.. I'm not sure but possible they shoot the pics in two days...

The difference might be in the tires...the M3 CSL comes with two types of tires: On normal M3 rims with the Pilot Sports and on the CSL rims with the sticky Michelin Sport Cups. The Sport Cups are a lot better than the Pilot Sports on a dry circuit, so maybe they have tried both of the cars just to see how they did.
My guess is they took the time of the black CSL on standard tires and not the time of the better grey CSL. (There is also no picture showing the rims of the grey CSL)
