This new section as inspired me to finally get around to doing this, some of the pictures were taken a while ago (and some posted already) and the rest I took today to finish off the topic
I might make another topic at a later stage of Perth in general but for now I will stick only with the suburb I live in - which isn't that big :D

Firstly an overview of South Perth.....I live roughly in the middle of the picture. Towards the left in the water you can see the ferry (pics further down) so that should give you some
perspective of where things are

http://img179.echo.cx/img179/3623/sthperth7sl.th.jpg (http://img179.echo.cx/my.php?image=sthperth7sl.jpg)

The city skyline at different times/angles:

this is the view down the street I live on, I love it with all the big trees :D

http://img100.echo.cx/img100/7417/mystreet9jc.th.jpg (http://img100.echo.cx/my.php?image=mystreet9jc.jpg) http://img100.echo.cx/img100/7606/mystreet10ic.th.jpg (http://img100.echo.cx/my.php?image=mystreet10ic.jpg)

Q: How much is this house worth?
A: It recently sold for $AU 13 million  , mainly due to its view which is overlooking the river/city

http://img231.echo.cx/img231/7664/13mhouse2vf.th.jpg (http://img231.echo.cx/my.php?image=13mhouse2vf.jpg)

some other apartments around the area that actually look nice :P

http://img231.echo.cx/img231/381/apartments8va.th.jpg (http://img231.echo.cx/my.php?image=apartments8va.jpg) http://img231.echo.cx/img231/1301/apartments26cd.th.jpg (http://img231.echo.cx/my.php?image=apartments26cd.jpg) http://img100.echo.cx/img100/8279/niceapartments0yj.th.jpg (http://img100.echo.cx/my.php?image=niceapartments0yj.jpg)

an intersection near my place which leads you onto the freeway....not sure why I took a pic of it :P

http://img100.echo.cx/img100/3954/intersection4uz.th.jpg (http://img100.echo.cx/my.php?image=intersection4uz.jpg)

Mends Street.....the local shopping/eating place and where alot of my nice car sightings take place

http://img100.echo.cx/img100/2952/mendsst1tm.th.jpg (http://img100.echo.cx/my.php?image=mendsst1tm.jpg)

and the jetty at the bottom of the street:

http://img100.echo.cx/img100/5653/mendsstjetty7vm.th.jpg (http://img100.echo.cx/my.php?image=mendsstjetty7vm.jpg)

This is the South Perth foreshore, where you look across the Swan River towards the city skyline.....nice relaxing place to walk :D

http://img100.echo.cx/img100/1086/foreshore4rv.th.jpg (http://img100.echo.cx/my.php?image=foreshore4rv.jpg)

The ferry I take when I go into the city - costs me $0.50 each way and I'm there in 6-7mins and means I don't have the hassle of finding a carpark (and paying for it also)

http://img100.echo.cx/img100/1510/ferry6rl.th.jpg (http://img100.echo.cx/my.php?image=ferry6rl.jpg) http://img100.echo.cx/img100/9766/ferryatmendsst5fl.th.jpg (http://img100.echo.cx/my.php?image=ferryatmendsst5fl.jpg)

The view of the city from Kings Park - one of the largest parks in the world :D

http://img100.echo.cx/img100/2443/kingspark2aw.th.jpg (http://img100.echo.cx/my.php?image=kingspark2aw.jpg)

and this is looking up at Kings Park from the foreshore:

http://img100.echo.cx/img100/4438/kingsparkview3re.th.jpg (http://img100.echo.cx/my.php?image=kingsparkview3re.jpg)

Sir James Mitchell Park- basically alot of grass that is never used (except a few shows every now and then) :P

http://img179.echo.cx/img179/8398/sirjamesmitchellpark7yd.th.jpg (http://img179.echo.cx/my.php?image=sirjamesmitchellpark7yd.jpg)

and finally the local hotel/pub - The Windsor :D

Any pics of the beach?

Nah, South Perth itself doesn't have a beach since it is a little bit inland  You need to go further west (i.e. towards the coast) to get to the beaches, roughly a 10min drive for the closest one
If I do a topic for Perth in general I will definately include some beach pics :D

How many people living in Perth?

well in the state of Western Australia (which Perth is the capital city of) we have about 2 million people, and about 1.5 million of those live in Perth with the rest spread out in the country areas.

I dont why but always when I think of Perth I think of a smaller city than it is, without high rise buildings.....I know I am wrong but its the image I got of Perth inside my head...... :?

probably because when most people think of Australia the bigger cities like Melbourne and Sydney come to mind - and compared to them Perth is small

Here's some pictures I took while I was over in Perth in January. They aren't really of South Perth so much, well I don't think they are, they're just where I went.

These are in Fremantle Harbour I think:

Thanks for the pics mate, obviously it all looks familiar to me. :D

I think the Bell Tower would have to be the most photographed 'thing' in WA. :D

How does Perth compare to Adelaide in your opinion?

Robbo
06-13-2005, 07:21 AM
I find it pretty similar in terms of population etc. especially to places like Melbourne and Sydney. Althought I did enjoy the scenery and stuff around Perth more but maybe that is just becuase I see Adelaide everyday. The weather is fairly similar as well probably a bit hotter in Perth although the week or so I was there was the week of the bushfires and the 40 degree days in Adelaide where was it was just 30 or so but the day I got back to Adelaide it was about 28 or something and Perth was like 36. So I was pretty happy with that as I find 40 too hot 8) . But Perth really is a beautiful city pity it's so far away from everyone on the east coast so they probably don't get to see it as much. The view from the bell tower was beautiful.
