The former boxing world champion Prince Naseem Hamed was arrested yesterday after a man was seriously injured in a crash with his sports car.
He was being questioned last night with two other men on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident involving an injury and allegations that they attempted to pervert the course of justice.
The 31-year-old was arrested after his Mercedes Benz car was involved in a collision with a Volkswagen Golf and a Ford Mondeo in Sheffield earlier.

The injured driver was trapped in the Volkswagen and had to be airlifted to the Northern General Hospital, with a suspected broken leg and fractures to both arms. A female passenger in the car also received cuts and bruises in the crash.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "As a result of a road collision, three men have been arrested and taken into custody. A 31-year-old and two 26-year-olds are helping us with our inquiries. They have been arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury and also on allegations of attempting to pervert the course of justice."
The crash, which the spokesman described as "complicated", happened at around 2.30pm. Naseem and the two 26-year-olds were arrested at a house near to the scene of the crash.
Police said they were trying to establish who was driving the car. He said one of the 26-year-old men under arrest had been taken to hospital, after suffering from chest pains.
The occupant of the Mondeo is not thought to have been seriously injured in the crash.
Really i hope he didn't leave the scene without getting help :-( i hope its a misunderstanding!

Man, that really sucks to lose a perfectly good SLR to a moron. That, ladies and gentlemen, is why people need to attend racing schools if they r gonna buy cars like that, because god knows he was screwing around when he hit the other cars.

ya but to bad the SLR was marketed/sold as a everyday driving car, not a racer  hence the 2 golf bad trunk, and all the comforts of the sl55 inside.

OMG!! RIP SLR :(
It such a cowardly thing to do leaving a accident that was obviously quite serious for all concerned. All I can say is just how dumb is Nassem to leave the scene driving a f!@#$ing SLR, what he thought they wouldn't be able to trace the owner of such a exclusive car?
What a complete and utter TWAT! I hope he goes to prison.

just came here to post about this, saw it on the news.
So much for the whole 'big hard man' act naseem had - running from the scene, he should be put away for as long as possible
such a shame to crash such a gorgeous car

First: who sait that the accident was his fault? Maybe the Golf driver was at fault, maybe the Mondeo driver.
Sevcond: they arrestet 3 persons from leaving the scene, but SLR only seats 2. Maybe other driver was running away and somebody went after him ..
Maybe ...
Don't make rash conclusions.
have you ever heard about shock? That's the reson why sverely injured pepole walk around after accident like they're completely unharmed, an collapse latter - but it's also the reason taht people leave the scene of accident. Statistics say that majotity of them returns or goes to police onche the shock hes passed and they realise what happened.
And for all of you who don't know: you can easily die from shock. So it is possible to leave accident scene (even injuredd) and not know anythig about it until later.
Again: dont jump the conclusions and judge people.
That said, statistics also show tha in majority of crashes involving a celebrity in an powerful car, the celebrity is ot blame ...
Eyewitness reports say that the SLR was overtaking a line of seven or eight cars. As they came over a blind crest the SLR was still on the wrong side of the road passing the car at the front of the line. The Golf was travelling on the correct side of the road in the opposite direction to the SLR. As the SLR crested the rise and saw the oncoming Golf, it is reported to have swerved into the car last car it was trying to overtake (the Mondeo at the side of the road in AL123's first post) in an attempt to avoid the Golf. This last manouevre was obviously not successful, but at least probably prevented a direct full frontal impact.
The accident occured on Ringinglow Road near Sheffield. The grounds of Naseem's country house apparantly back onto this road not far from the scene, so this is presumably where he was heading when he scarpered.
Naseem is well known around Sheffield for driving like a complete tosser with little regard for other road users. A few years ago he totalled a Ferrari 355 'when a fox ran out in front of him', and he has had numerous run-ins with the law because of his driving.
All of this is taken from internet sources, so like most stuff on the internet it could be complete gobshite, but having seen what an arrogant little shit he is when he's been on tv I can believe it completely.

That may well stack up as other reports say the SLR and mondeo were travelling together (naseem presumably attempting to catch up and show off). The third person who was arrested was from the mondeo i guess. Who knows, i doubt the true story will come out for a while, he has to return to the police station in august. BTW thanks for the new pics, much better quality :D
BTW anyone else think its ironic how battered the "Police accident" sign is in the first post

This guy got what he deserved. Anyone tha has his sense of arrogance and lack of respect for other motorists deserves to have his SLR destroyed with him still in it. It's just a shame that other people had to pay the price for his stupidity.
