View Full Version : A GROUP MEMBERS REVIEW, PLEASE READ!

Ok ppl, you already saw Jabba's post about the fact A group is to be kept "under control".
We have to constantly check who is still "Eligible" to be in it, and who has to become a B again.
That's also needed to give B members the chance to become A if free spots open up.
So, here is how things will work from now on.
Every Sunday, we'll make a "resume" of the week, checking all the vids posted and all the reviews by A members.

The table was done some minutes ago, and now zippo has a new "O" for PP...

But as you can see, while there are vids like obviously 5th and Top Gear that are reviewed almost by everyone,
others are not so popular...

And the rules for A group are pretty clear: only hardcore reviewers, quality and quantity-wise..
So now we decided to draw the line, because we have to.. it's not easy of course, but w/o it, what can we do?

So, from now on, A members are required to post at least 5 reviews weekly (7 vids are normally posted) and all monthly video specials.

I don't think it's to much to ask, and if somebody is not able, no bad feelings, but he has to return into the B group.
(and can re-join "A" when he is ready to start reviewing again)

So, here is the first GROUP B PENDING LIST:

As you can see the list is pretty long compared to the small group... and you'll also notice it is completely fair toward everybody.
We didn't considered other forms of help to the community. Not that we don't appreciate them, not at all.
We actually do of course, but the rules to be in the group are simple and we felt it could have been hard then
to decide who contribute enough in other ways and who doesn't... so, if we stick with the true rule, it's very simple.
At least 5 reviews and you're in, less than that and you'll be added to the "B" group pending list..
keep that way and you'll be added to B again.
We strongly think this is not asking to much, because everybody can write his thought while watching the vid or the next 5 min.
And if you have time to download and watch them, you can also review them :)
I hope this move won't be perceived the wrong way from some members but I also think everybody here is mature enough
to understand rules are rules and that we created them, not to piss off ppl, but to make JW fairer for everybody.

I know I have not posted reviews, that is because I have not even dowloaded them all. The few I have, I have not watched. I have a couple of exams (4) in this upcomming week. I will start being the FIRST (not counting you TT since you are tough to beat!) in posting reviews.

just to post it here as well, i haven ´t reviewed a single vid either, i just PM ´ed TT about that and explained him everything, i don´t even know why i´m A-member, when the CGT report occured i´ve been A without asking jabba, so i don´t know why but i don´t care either, because i´m not here on JW to dl vids, because i simply don´t have the time to do all this.
i´m busy enough to keep the "Porsche news" running beside my 24/7 job, and this is more important to me that to dl and review every single vid...

I have similar problem as DeMoN, haven't been posting much reviews beside the usual 5th gear and top gear ones cause I didn't download everything. With all the projects and exams in the coming month, I doubt I'll be able to give my full attention to all the videos. Instead of watching the videos in the background and post crappy reviews, it's probably better if I watch them during free time and post better one. I'm happy to stay in group B if someone else can have better use of the slot... hopefully I'll manage to get more time (and HD space!!!) to download and watch all the videos very soon ;)

That was just the only simple way to deal with that... a single rule, weekly controls...

And beeing out of the A and only "B" doesn't mean nothing basically ;) especially for ppl with broadband :D

And again, as said, it will be possible to come back when more free time will be available for example..

Fair enought, I only use for stuff that I have not seen, I see Top Gear on the TV, so don't need to d/l it....I still reviewed the first top gear though, in fact I started a whole thread about it 8) Anyway, no hard feelings from me.

I am a 56K knight like Gis.. so its going to be a fine line for me as well- we will see how it goes, specially coz my work commitments can keep me away for days(had this weekend free so I am making the most of it :wink: ) - no hard feelings TT.. don`t mind being in either group so long as u dont throw me outta here :mrgreen:

question though tt and jabba: will our status be put in jeopardy if we post a negative review of the video? i notice my example was used. and nobody ever asked for it to be a positive peachy review. if we just give our honest opinions, shouldn't that be enough?

also, if we think the video wasn't that great, can we just say so and avoid typing out a novel? i noticed that 666fast writes like 4587204875209860925 page reviews, aint no way in hell you're ever gonna get me to type that much. shouldn't our honest views on the video be suffice?

wow, pretty much everytime I come here there's some change!! lol, I have to say that I couldn't agree more with the system, very fair and it seems you guys thought of everything! Very nice, I just need to keep up a bit more with the changes though, lol :wink:, you guys must never sleep because this place is in a constant metamorphosis!

Anyways, hey jabba I wanted to ask you a big favor if you know how I can get little Alfa Romeo symbols for the post count thinggy, it would be awesome!! :D

sounds good to me. ive been kinda busy lately so i havent had the time to post much other than reviews. personally, believe it or not, this has helped me manage my time a little better. having more things to do in a day usually means more stuff will get done. so thats my own little personal bonus :D

I wasn’t reviewing videos I found boring and not interesting. I just don’t know what to write about this PP episodes I found not interesting or Driven with 3 small bargain price cars being tested.

So I have Tin ADSL connection, today at 14:30 they'll come to deliver the modem, and I have all my finger crossed hoping everything will be alright...it seems so beautiful for me, too beautiful and I fear something won't work...

I`m the most unlucky person I though.. I have tried many of them but I get only 5th and TG1 programs.. Last 2 weeks there r some changes at the central electrical departmant.. Everyday I have electric cut..
The most thing made me sad is when the electricity goes off the file damaged...
(still didnt bought the cable that connects the monitor with UPS..)And it cannot be extractable... Especially I have the same problem with the 796 mb Ghostrider 2 clip.. That shocks me 2 much.. :(

As a result I`m always tryin to do my best.. Tnx for everythin anyways..

Will I get thrown out of Group A then? I'm on 56k untill my broadband access gets figured out so I can't download everything as it ties up my phone line. Which isn't good when you are looking for a new job.
I'm in the middle of downloading the Tg fast and the furious 2, only 10 more hours! :shock:
I've been trying to keep up, but with 56k and looking for a new job, I don't have much time for the internet.

Hey 666fast , when you dont get the week of access like you get now , you can get the filez from my ftp , all the videos of the week that i do get wil lbe posted then ... so you will get them anyways :D

Its a very hard rule for someone that has done so much for JW like you have 666fast...but so its fair it must apply to everyone inc demon, alien, zippo, gis and all the other great people here...I can only say that once you get your broadband sorted out we will put you straight back into "A" if you have gone into "B" group

It's cool, I wasn't complaining, I hope you didn't take it that way. I'd say this is the best system that has been used so far for the videos. It's fair and that is what counts. Giving me special access wouldn't be right.
I've been doing my best to keep up but I've been so busy, working 10 hour days, looking for a new job and 56k doesn't leave much time to use the forums. I try to come here as often as I can though. If I end up in Group B, I'll understand.

Glad you understand....I worked very hard with TT to try and make a system that would allow certain people to be exempt from the rule...but it would have been very hard to include some people and not others...so I had to rely on everyone being very understanding and not taking it personally.....so far it seems to have gone down very well.... :D

True . I just wanted to say that the system is great so far. All the reviews up there are great. No one liners any more. Great stuff.

And for people who dont find some videos interesting and cant comment on them, you dont have to :wink: You only have to post 5reviews a week. And there are usualy much more vids then that.

the system run here seems as close to perfect as it can be. i myself might even go to group B, shit its the cool thing to do these days, you know 8) 8) .

anyway that is if i dont put up enough reviews this week, doesn't look like it but when i feel that i d/l less vids then ill gladly go to group B...where the real cool people belong, not those pretentious assholes in gro..wait im still in group A.

i digress from my original comment as i wanted to know, jabba or TT, is the goal to keep group A under 25 and group B more packed? i would figure that it would jam things up on the weekend even though group b's d/l less vids. on top of that u got more memebers comin in and gettin into group B so how does this work????

after answering that give me some lucky lottery numbers plz? :wink:

I won't complain about the new rule and it's not such a problem for me to post 5 reviews a week normally unless during my exames when I'll be in group B for a while, but after that I'll just see that I get back into A.

I know all this requests a lot of effort from you guys (TT & Jabba) and I thank you for that but may I make a little suggestion.

I think AlienDB7 & st-anger deserve to stay in Group A because both of them do a special effort for Jabbasworld and have been doing that allmost since the beginning!! Ok, others like Draak666 & Gis & many others have done so by providing webspace - sending you a video - ... But those two, in my view, provide a constant stream of info & video's to make JW a better place!

As I said, it's only a suggestion.

Don't think we didn't think about that. True about Alien and st-anger, but what about you and draak with your webspaces? And DeMoN out official designer? And so on.. we tried to define a "core" group, but it was not easy to decide where to stop to avoid making somebody un-happy... so we tried what we did, hoping everybody would understand why we opted for that :)

Of course nothing is fixed in time at JW, and we keep trying to improve, experimenting and testing new things :)

So far anyway the response we got from these "new" rules is amazing! We had tons of reviews from everybody, no spam, no bad feeling. I'm very happy to see that. Even if sometimes I lack time to read everything, it's very nice when I discover the 100 unread posts I have to read are quality ones, long reviews, nice discussions and so on :)

OK, here's how I see it. It's a good idea to change the members of the A group. Everybody deserves a chance. My personal problem (and zippo's) is that from time to time I'm stuck on really, really, really smallband. Surfing sucks big time then. However, if I get one week (i.e. 7 days) then I will be able to write about five reviews... no problem and with pleasure! So a weekly evaluation is ok IMO.

I also understand that many people don't have a lot of spare time to spend on the net (like e.g. students during exams). Perhaps it would be possible to grant them membership to the A group on the basis of special efforts (during that week). Posting a video, exclusive stuff, new logo's... that sort of thing. They would have to file a request and TT and Jabba can decide autonomously if membership to the group is justified for that week or possibly for a specific video that they really want :idea: . I don't think anyone doubts your righteousness for that matter. Just leave a small door open because I appreciate these people's efforts a lot and I believe that they deserve something in return... :)

IMO this new rule is nice idea.. 5 reviews per week is fine.. Maybe I will be group B member because of havin problems with internet connection+some hardware problem.. I like this rule because of keepin this group elite.. I`m happy that I can be a group A member again after I solve my problems..
Finally its a nice idea for keepin this group elite users..

I did have a very hard time with this new rule for that very reason...as I felt I was kicking everyone in the balls that has worked so hard on JW to get it to where it is today...if there was a practicle way to do as you suggest we would be doing it....

I can confirm that I will try and help anyone that has fallen out of group "A" for technical reasons with any videos that they would like to see....and in fact I have just helped out st-anger on this very issue...

hey TT, you know the table you're making with who reviewed what. could you actually post that up, make it a sticky but only you could edit that post? so at the end of each week you put up a new table.

if we can't get an automated system at least put that up, i've got so much in my mind i've already lost track with what i have written even tho its been only 2 videos.

I dont think I should have to post a review of the TVR special because I provided that. Also I did a review of Top Gear Episode 1 and its not listed. I have 2 more that I have to review. The thing is is that I dont download every vid. I think as long as we write reviews on the ones we download then we should remain in the A group as long as they are good.

I know I didn't review a lot then, but it's because I've no internet connection at home so I'm able to download/review the vids once or twice a week!I know it's no excuse but I don't have the choice.. So I'll understand if I get to group b but don't think it's idleness or leech :D
