View Full Version : Best Ferrari Ever

Chaos in 1983!

Well 5th Gear is having the best ferrari ever contest...so I thought it would be interesting to find out which is JW's Best Ferrari Ever...so post a pic and tell a bit why you think it's the best ferrari ever...

My pic is the 355 GTS...I love this car, to me the 355 is the greatest looking ferrari of all times, and I like the GTS in particular because the targa roof offers the fun and exitement of a convertible and the convinence of a hardtop. It's also a good performer on the track and a pretty good everyday car, well so I've read, I wouldn't know this because I've never driven one, I guess I'll have to ask Jabba to confirm this :? and of course the lovely sound of the V8...

dude this will be a hard desision. I love the look of the 355 but there is no doubt in my mind that the 360 would preform better and would be easy to drive even if the looks are questionable. The F40 is a great looking car but its not a V12 and i'm not a big fan of V8 supercars. The F50 is near perfect in my books, great looks correct engine but does it have the practacality. We all say we dont care about how practacle a car is but when you get a two seater that has no luxuries you will know what it means. then there is the new 612, 456, 575 and the list goes on.

But what about the older ferrari's like the GTO and 348's they were the best in their day. but how do they stack up now can they be compared? I will get back to you with an answer i will sleep on it.....

well if it follows the list on the 5th gear website then my fave is the 275.

but if it has to be all out performance then it has to be the enzo

It is impossible to name only one. I can name a few though.

275 GTS
250 California spider
250 SWB
250 GTO
330 LMB
250 Lusso
288 GTO
F40

This is a hard decision, but I'm gonna have to agree on this with Chaos in 1983!, becuase I personally think the 355 GTS is the best, although after that 5th gear episode with the 360 Stradale, I was a little shaken, but still the 355 GTS holds the crown for me. Yes, the looks maybe a little dated, but it is the last Ferrari in my opinion that holds the true Ferrari shape.

Very though indeed.
I'd go with the F40 or the 365 GTB/4 Daytona Coupé.

For me there is no such thing as the best Ferrari ever. They are all the best in their own little way. But, If I was rich my first Ferrari would be a 250GTO.

Just look at it. This is the best looking car ever. In it's time it won everything in entered, it has a classic Ferrari V12 and it sounds like nothing else. This design has been riped off more then anything else.

F50 new enough but not brand new, right engine and good looks!

The Stradale in blue is just sex on wheels, but the 355 is also a beauty and I completely disagree with JC on the looks getting aged.

The Enzo and F50 also have me hooked, but I don't think they are quite as balanced(looks, performance, size) so I will go with the two recent mid engined cars.

For me that's an impossible question to answer. there are a lot of different kind of Ferraris and I can't choose one that is the best.

in the 5th gear poll I chose the 312T because it was the best F1 car ever.

Chingachgook

The best...Ferrari F40.
I like also the the F50, because of the carbon fibre chassis and F1 technology, F1 engine (bored to 4.7l), and the sound.
It's too difficoult to choose a Ferrari...but in 5th gear pool I chose the F40

^yet he chose a lightweight V8 with twin turbo.. He had intentions of racing the car intially until Group B fell away due to all the deaths..

that's not completely true. the 288 GTO was intended for racing in group B (too bad it got cancelled). the F40's turbo V8 is based on the GTO, but Ferrari announced that the F40 won't be raced and that privateers won't get factory support.
so the F40 didn't see much competition (but when it did it annihilated the opposition).

And your point?

Enzo's favourite engine layout is not under discussion - the last Ferrari to be blessed by the father is.

Hence - the last true Ferrari is the F40.

Period.

Chingachgook
11-11-2003, 04:26 AM
Last true Ferrari was the F40, Enzo Ferrari himself approved the project. But I think it would have loved also the F50 with his engine deriveted by a TRUE F1 unit.

Now I can't hear Piero Ferrari saying that his father would love a Ferrari diesel...how can you say that!A Ferrari diesel? YOU'RE CRAZY! You are saying "my father will be happy" only to justify this mad idea and make people believe that a diesel powered Ferrari is still a Ferrari, but in fact it's not!

scubywrxr
11-11-2003, 08:53 PM
Old man Enzo will roll over in his grave before they make a diesel ferrari!
You right about the 288 alondahan.. I was in fact referring to the V8 twin turbo configuration and not the F40 specifically. Enzo Ferrari intended to race a twin turbo V8 since it was the configuration that could realise the most power under the Group B regulations(figures of 700-800BHP were not unheard of). Last true Ferrari is without doubt the F40 since the old man signed on the design before his unfortunate passing away.. :(

I read this post just now (a month later). Afrikaans is different from Dutch, but I can understand what you're saying. Reading your post out loud helped a lot.

I've thought about it and I can't think of a similar word in Dutch either. The only thing that comes close is when someone sits "op de bok". Which means he's in charge, or, when used in a context with cars, that he's driving. This also derived from horse carriages I think, but clearly means the opposite of 'riding shotgun'.
