Whats wrong with engine upgrades? :?

Unless there is a law against modification (which I have heard of) it would be mainly to do with insurance. That is a pure guess though.


edit: looks like there are regulations regarding car tuning. In the UK, as long as the car passes the MOT and all modifications are insured, everything is ok.

surely they dont have access to foreigners insurance details and if the driver supplied thier insurance certificate then there can't be much else they can do?

There is a ridiculous law in Belgium that states you may not mod your car at all, it has to be 100% standard throughout its life. Even tuning upgrades with TUV approval aren't allowed. Though last year the law was slightly adjustes. Now minor changes are allowed: other wheels (though max 2% difference with the standard wheels), lower suspension (within limits), air filter and an aftermarket exhaust system that complies with noise legislation are allowed. But real tuning performance tuning is illegal over here. But that doesn't mean you won't see modded cars around here. We just find a way around the law :D

once again, glad i live in the US. Some states here have safety inspections, but that's just to make sure the brakes are going to stop you and the tires are legal tread depth, yada, yada, yada :roll: Other than that, do whatever you want to the engine, jsut so long that it passes emissions :D

And I thought we are the last country on the planet with such laws. A, no wait, lowering is also illegal here. And just like in Belgium, we do have tuned cars over here, although from the outside it is sometimes hard to tell that the car have been modded :o
But wait, there is more: we are one of the latest countries on the planet, where motorsports are prohibited! They are trying to pass the law for motorsports for the past 2 years, so hopefully by next year we will have official motorsport.

Sounds a lot like the law here in Denmark. If you are putting in another engine the maximum increase of power alloved is 20%. If you are modding the original engine, it must not pollute any more than the stock (and you have to prove that). With brakes nothing is allowed unless there is TÜV on it. Even fitting bigger brakes using only standard original components. It sucks big time. But usually we justs do it :D Just like my mini

over here, you can tune, but you have to pay tax pr hk and pr cc, I think it is something like £60-70 pr hk, and you can only tune 20% without getting bigger brakes and new suspention. (TUV approved) You also have to contact your insurance company and work out a new price (if they approve)
