After installing XP, should I use spyboot? or adawere will do? Why, I had S&D on W98 and for last 3-4 months I was just updating and it never found anything when I scanned PC, nothing at all :?. Before that it found something from time to time. Was it adawere that good or S&D just wasnt working?

XP have firewall, should I use some other firewall or not neccesary?

Dont want to get too many programs slow down PC, thats why I ask.

I got NOD as antivirus.

Thanx in advance

Well, as off now I'm using Ad Aware SE Professional and McAfee 2005 All in One and it works great.

I had Spybot before and didn't like it. Way too many warnings for nothing... At first, Ad Aware wasn't that great either but after ditching Norton 2004 for McAfee it's been working great; no spyware whatsoever...

Hell yes!! The XP firewall is a piece of shit. As I said before, I use the McAfee Personal Firewall. It's great!

I no expert tough, so others might give you better advice, but McAfee 2005 works perfectly on my PC and so I recommend it. :)

Ah, and it doesn't slow down my PC. Much faster than with Norton 2004. With Norton Corp it may be different tough...

I'm using Ad-Aware SE right now, it seems to work fine but I rarely get any . You can probably look into the Microsoft AntiSpyware (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx). Some say it's better than most. I used it briefly on my work machine before mcafee screwed up and forced me to reinstall windows.

As for anti-virus, I use AVP and AVG myself. McAfee 2004 sucks up way too much CPU time and is buggy at times. Norton could be better but I abandon it when it failed to stop the one and only virus I had in past 10 years... :x

Common sense is the best anti spyware and anti-virus tool you have, make use of it

I use Ad-Aware PRO (the one you "pay" for) Spybot AND the Microsoft one (Antispyware) Use them all, its worth it. Make sure you enable their Active Protection (the ones that load on task bar)

For spyware/trojans/virii/worms/malware, there is no such thing as OR, use both and more. I recently had a pclogger sneak in and I use alot of protection, the AV picked it up but couldnt remove it, the firewall blocked it from sending info to outside world and it made sure i couldnt use the search function in windows. Hijackthis couldnt get rid of it cause it would load with winlogon. Ended up using killbox with hjt and its finally gone, time to reset all the passwords just incase...

S&D seems to miss alot of stuff. Just cause program X doesnt find anything on the pc dont assume its not there. I really should get Mozilla but then I wouldnt have fun trying to remove these trojans :?

^ have fun? Use Internet Explorer and risk getting your credit card number stolen! I tell you this because I got some crazy charges of 500$ on my Credit Card because I used IE. I used antivirus (norton) internet securtiy (norton) spybot and adaware and yet IE is so crappy that this happened. Besides, all the ghey popups!

Firefox is just great, after i switched to firefox and use all prorams mentioned before, I have had NO trouble. Besides, ONE firefox opened can hold an insane amount of windows opened, you dont need to ALT TAB or click on other windows.

no problem man, Let me just add that Microsofts one just found me a KEY LOGGER! God damn I have no idea how it got in. I have them ALL three running at same time... spybot and ad aware did not find anything, but Microsoft one did.

Whats key logger? Something bad? I dont understan a thing they find there, I just delete them ALL. Spyboot found 5 bi*ches as Alexa and others, they are tracking cookies or so... dont know what they do but I feel better without them
Should I chnage something in setup of Microsoft proggy or I should just update and thats all?

I found out that not surfing XXX pages help alot to keep my system pretty clean 8) No viruses, no worms and others crap :P Gotta cross fingers though 0X

key loggers log every key stroke you make. If you put ur cc number they can steal it.

Just update them all and run scan with all of them. Make sure you scan with Microsoft's one cuz SPybot didnt find anything right before Antisypware did.

^ Lol so true.

BTW - If you did spybot and Antispyware search with 0 results then you are doing fine.
